Congratulations! Isn't it great to spend time doing something that's not centered around FOOD? It's amazing how so much of our lives are centered on food - holidays, etc? It's great to spend time with people and enjoy their company! Great NSV!

how much protien? whats the deal...
Feel2Young2B40 replied to aligirrl77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi! My doctor recommends 60 grams per day but I would check with yours to see what he/she recommends. I use a whey Protein that has 23 grams per serving which I use in the morning. I seem to do better with a Protein shake in the morning because I'm a little tight before lunch. After that, I know I have almost half of what I need for the day so I concentrate on eating Proteins when I feel hungry during the day at lunch and dinner as well as Snacks. Good luck! -

I'm convinced if I could coordinate the efforts between my arms and my thighs I could fly! Not a good one to ask. I'm wondering the same thing.

Hey! Look at you - you've lost over 60 pounds in less than a year! So you took a little break, that's ok. You're entitled. Like everyone says, it's here when you want it and ready to work when you are. Maybe you need a fill to give you an extra boost? I know I always (ok usually) feel a rush of vigor after a fill (except during the holidays....). Keep up the great work and spend some time doing what you enjoy!

Hi! I have it and I find all the exercising I've been doing lately lessens the symptoms. I don't know if it's because I'm tiring out the muscles, etc or what but it does seem to help. I haven't filled my prescription yet because I'm not crazy about taking medicine if I can find an alternative method.

Are there any smokers out there (yuk I know it is bad)
Feel2Young2B40 replied to karenj's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes me. I'll probably get some heat for this but I continue to smoke. I personally can only deal with one DEVIL at a time. food. I know I should quit, I know it's not healthy and I know it's not good for the band. However, at this stage I believe working on my food consumption and exercise is where I have to concentrate my efforts right now. Now I did cut down before the surgery and after but got back to it as soon as I felt good enough. BTW - where is my lighter??? I need a smoke after talking about it so much... -
Hi! From what I've seen, it's the exception not to have problems with insurance companies. I was fortunate that mine covered all but $250.00 surgery fee and then covers my fills at $35.00 co-pay. I would call the insurance company and ask to speak to one of the supervisors to discuss what exactly they received from the doctor and if there was anything missing. Do as much homework as you can in terms of finding out what they need and require for coverage. You may also have to write a letter depending on what they say but make sure you get everything in writing so if at a later date you meet the requirements you have all the back up and proof you need. Good luck and keep plugging away at them!!!

I usually go in the late morning for my fills so I intentionally eat light that morning and then be prepared for 24 hours of protein drinks. I just find it a little easier for me. Good luck!

Hi! I've noticed lately my ability to taste food is almost gone. Like everything is bland and doesn't have any taste. I don't have a cold or sinus problem so my ability to smell is not impaired. I do notice when I smell food it doesn't instantly make me "hungry" like it did pre-banding. Pre-banding I would eat for numerous reasons - if I was in the right place at the right time, head hunger, stressed, anxious, etc and now it's only when I'm hungry. So I wonder, has my brain finally caught up with my band after almost a year? Is my fill level finally what it should be after 5 fills on the big band? Have I lost some of the "drive" or desire to feed the food monster? Has anyone else experienced this? Hopes this makes sense....

Yep - happened to me. Got mine the morning of the surgery. I did the pillow-pad thing and there were not COOL netting underoos!!!??? I got jypped! Anyway, it went all ok and it wasn't the most embarassing moment of my life but it did rank in the top 10 events. Good luck!

We went out to dinner last night with the kids and our neighbors to Outback. I wasn't really hungry so I mustered up the courage to ask for the first time if I could order off the kid's menu. The server was very nice and said of course - not a problem. Well, dinner came and they were handing out the food and a different server couldn't figure out where the extra kid's dinner went. Raised my hand and avoided eye contact because I was embarassed. Onto the NSV - by the time everyone had cleaned their plates, I was full and only was able to eat 1/3 of the kid's meal! I took home a "doggie" bag with the balance! I figured then the server knew I wasn't just trying to be cheap! Thanks for letting me share!
