    Initial Consult Was Today

I haven't had my nutritionist visit yet, so I don't have a specific diet. I was, however, told that if I gain more than 10 lb between now and surgery I have to lose that before we can proceed. They said it was to avoid the " last supper" complex between now and when I start my pre-op diet
  2. It went well! Dr agrees that VSG is the right procedure for me. I had my chest x-Ray today and next week I meet with the NUT and do the psych eval. Then I just have to get some labs and EKG done, meet with the exercise physiologist, have a sleep study, and go to a support group meeting and they will be ready to submit me to insurance. There's a slim chance I could be a December sleever, but it will most likely be January! I am so excited!! The patient advocate doesn't think I will have a problem getting approved. I just hope my employer doesn't change my plan between December and January, that is something I am going to find out in the next week or so I hope.

Yay! It's kind of reassuring knowing there are others in the same point of the process

    Before or After Question

Personally, I wouldn't wait, I think the benefit of weighing less and being able to enjoy your trip because of improved health is worth more than being able to eat whatever you want. I am still pre-op but I would think from April to end of June is plenty of time to recover and get used to the new lifestyle. That said, it is totally up to you and a personal decision. Enjoy your trip, it sounds fun!
  6. My DH is completely supportive of my WLS, and we have been discussing which appointments he should come to. He did not attend the seminar with me, because he was home with our kids. I have my initial consultation coming up in a couple of weeks and I don't think he will come with me to that either, because he wants to save his time off to take care of me post surgery. So which ones should he come to? I think he will be coming to the NUT visits with me because we share the shopping and cooking duties. What else? I have to attend a support group both before and after surgery. It might be nice for him to come then, but again he will be home with the kids. We could probably get a sitter if it is worth it though. Obviously he won't be coming to the psych consult or the other basic pre-op tests, etc. So what is your experience with a spouse/significant other?
  7. This makes me feel better! I was worried that he might miss something but it sounds like we're on the right track.

    Sleeve Myths or Reality?

Another thought on the chewing... The majority of your stomach has been removed and the stomach provides some mechanical digestion by breaking up what you swallow into smaller pieces. With the much smaller stomach, that mechanism is not as effective so extra chewing is a good idea.
  9. Yay! Congratulations. What a great milestone!

Glad to hear it Tara! I hope the approval doesn't take too long for you. My first appointment with Dr. Le is on 10/22. I'm excited to get the ball rolling.
  12. Hello everyone. I am Lisa, a 32 year old mom of 2 girls. I'm just getting started on the process. I went to the seminar on Sep 10 and am still waiting for the surgeon's office to verify benefits (not approval, just that WLS is a covered option). I'm already getting impatient, it has been a month almost and I can't even get in for he initial consultation yet! The office said 3 months is a typical wait from seminar to surgery but I will obviously be longer than that! Anyway, I've been passing the time by lurking here and thought I would introduce myself and say hi ). My PCP recommended the sleeve but reading here helps me think of things to discuss with the surgeon when (if?!) I get to that initial appointment.

    Just starting Out

There is one other practice that may take my insurance, and another place I could go to if I did self pay. It would probably take just as long or longer to switch over, plus I like the surgeon at the current place. The frustrating part is that I have already talked to my insurance and know it should be covered but it apparently isn't as simple as them just telling that to the surgeon. Hopefully once the process gets started it will go quicker. I've been thinking about this for years and am ready to move forward!

Hi! I am in OKC and think I will be going with Dr. Hamilton Le. Still early in the process though.
