so sad only down 8lbs, today is 3wks post op
Sleeveless in seattle replied to re14768's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started with a BMI of 55 so I'm quite a bit larger than you. At 3 weeks post op I had only lost 8 lbs. as of today, almost 7 weeks I've lost 25 (post op). I'm considered a slow loser but I think it's fantastic. The little numbers really start adding up! My surgery is working, I never would have lost 25 lbs in 7 weeks. Keep positive and don't worry about your non-supportive family. They will come around as your loss becomes more noticeable. -
My surgeons solution to soup is drink the broth first as it slides through, then eat the chunks since they will fill you up. Or he says to have a stew or chili instead as they are nice and thick. Hope that helps.

This is fantastic! Thank you so much for sharing. -
so sad :(
Sleeveless in seattle replied to ms_tonya_nea's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So in 8 weeks you've lost 67 lbs??? That's unreal! If it makes you feel better I was sleeved 5 days before you. Weighed 313 the day before surgery and 289 today, so only 24 lbs since surgery. The rest of my weight loss was from January-March (I chose to make major changes before my actual pre-op diet). I fight discouragement. I let it get me down for a few minutes every few days until I realize I haven't weighed this in 15 years and I never would have lost 24 pounds in 6-7 weeks before surgery. You have no reason to be sad about your weight loss, your numbers are a great motivator for others. If you are sad or depressed as you said, I'd dig around and figure out the real reason because it surely can't be the huge numbers you've dropped. -
Not doing well at all :(

At two weeks you are barely starting to heal inside. Your staple line could be numb, causing you to not feel restriction. Or you are past restriction and looking for a "full" feeling that you're not getting. First off, no jumping down your throat. Food is obviously a problem for you or you wouldn't have needed this surgery. Most of us are in the same boat...or we shouldn't have gotten the surgery. It does sound as though you have a serious compulsion if you can't follow the post op diet and are already eating pizza and other stuff. Hopefully the wait for the eating disorder clinic is short but until then get as much support as possible. If you "need" to eat something off your plan, phone a friend, play a game, post on here...anything. Don't bring that junk in your house because you obviously can't handle to have it around. Eliminate the temptation so that if you must eat something it is okay for you and your healing tummy. Best wishes, I hope it works out for you. -
Compression stockings

Never used them other than the massaging cuffs in recovery. We were encouraged to walk for 15 min every couple of hours to reduce chance of blood clots. -
7 weeks post op - success and struggles

When I pack a lunch I usually do a few slices of lunch meat and a cheese stick. I'm only 6 weeks out so not very adventuresome yet. -
Question, please tell me if this has happened to you!

My omeprazole says specifically to take in the morning an hour before breakfast. Maybe that might help? Hope it gets better! That kind of reflux can cause some major damage!! -
Diagnosed with Hashimotos. Anyone else have this?
Sleeveless in seattle replied to 2bfit's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I have hashimotos also. It as never affected my appetite or caused swelling. I do swell quite a bit when I don't drink enough water. I'm on Armour thyroid. My insurance won't cover it but even my dose of 210 (very high) is only $25 cash at costco so I still get it. It's worth it. -

My first thought is....that's a lot of carbs!! Baked potatoes, trail mix, fiber one bars...it all adds up. Try eating protein first and I bet that will help. Looks like the only decent protein you're getting in is breakfast. -
ABORT SURGERY!
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Chubalicious's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Why won't you qualify for the program if you lose weight? You are 100 lbs overweight...are you just right at their border for acceptance? I would think with the comorbidity of diabetes that you would still be able to lose weight and qualify. Clean eating and dropping sugar are probably your best chances of improving your liver numbers since you aren't a drinker. Hope it all works out for you. -
I need advice....please
Sleeveless in seattle replied to MaMa DeB's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I know it's too late now, but my surgeons handbook says if you haven't gone by day 3, it's time to help move things along. The longer you wait, the more impacted it gets. I've seen posts on here from people who had yo go to the ER for impacted bowels. No joke. -
You don't really wanna hear what I have to say anyways....
Sleeveless in seattle posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
First off, I'm not enjoying all the attention from my weight loss. I lost 35 on my pre-op and another 20 since surgery; this has been over a total of 5-6 months, so not a rapid weight loss necessarily. Some people have known of my efforts and ask what I'm doing (pre-op was low carb, low sugar, low calorie....kinda the same as post op actually! And regular exercise of course). I log every bite I eat on my fitness pal. That is my number 1 weight loss tip to anyone. We just don't realize how many calories we are eating even when we think we are eating okay. Every single person who has asked for tips has responded the same way..Oh, I'm on my fitness pal, too, but I know I don't eat as many calories as it says I can. I don't need to log, I just know.....or....I'm sure I only eat 1000 calories a day, I don't know why I can't lose weight. Well, honey, I just watched you polish off a huge plate of food and a cupcake. That was almost 1000 calories right there! Don't whine to me if you don't wanna log for yourself. We are all accountable for what goes in our mouths, whether we are sleeved or not. Don't ask because you don't wanna hear what I have to say anyways. Sorry for the rant session, I'm done now that it's off my chest. -
Full off two bites..really?!?!
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Lindsayellen93's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Refried beans weren't allowed on my puréed because they told me they cause too much discomfort that early. Sounds like that's what happened to you. -
Sorry another question

An exclusion means it is not. Clouded, period. If you are denied but it is in your policy then, yes, you can try more documentation. -
frustrated only lost 8lbs. .feeling confused!
Sleeveless in seattle replied to re14768's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lost only 6 lbs my first two weeks and I started a lot higher than you. I'm at 5 weeks now and have lost 17 lbs since surgery. Compared to others I'm a slow loser but I've never lost this much this fast so I happy with it. -

Also if you're lacking in magnesium that is usually the biggest culprit. You can take a supplement for it. -

Week 5 Questions
Sleeveless in seattle replied to misslu58's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree. The food you are eating is filling you up without providing much nutrition. I am 5 weeks out yesterday, here is a sample of what I eat in a day...I am not perfect, just throwing out ideas. Breakfast: premier Protein shake (30 G protein) or Dannon light n fit greek yogurt (12 G protein). On occasion I've had 1/3 serving of malt o meal with a dab of yogurt and teaspoon of truvia mixed in. Doesn't provide much, but if I'm sick of the other two this is what I've had. Morning snack: if I've had a shake for breakfast I'll have a Greek yogurt and vice versa Lunch: 1 oz albacore tuna mixed with a little mayo or plain Greek yogurt, sometimes sprinkle a little ranch powder for a diff flavor, sometimes with 2 crackers or few bites of soft fruit. Pm snack: cheese stick, 1/4 c cottage cheese or chike protein iced coffee Dinner: little bit of whatever I cooked. Last night, 1 oz salmon and 1 piece steamed cauliflower. Salmon was a little too dry for my tummy so I added a spoon of Greek yogurt on top and sprinkled with Parmesan Snack (if needed): sugar free Popsicle, Greek yogurt or cottage cheese I am slowly incorporating more real foods and trying for less shakes and soft foods, but obviously that's a slow process. My main goal is to hit 75 G protein a day which I almost always do. I log every thing I eat because I'm not great at estimating intake. I'm currently hitting 600-700 calories a day which my nut thinks is good but she'd really like me tone at least to 800 with a long term goal of 1100-1300. Hope this helps. -
When to start swallowing pills?
Sleeveless in seattle replied to tarahuff82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I swallowed Prilosec at 3 days out, but still had to 1/2 my thyroid pill which is pretty big. Doctors orders. -
Vets: getting below 22 BMI, can it be done?
Sleeveless in seattle replied to NMJG's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Use that 60 min you spend walking and kick it up a notch. Speed up, do hills, find a good video you can do, lift light weights. Unless you are already power walking or doing hills, it's not a lot of calorie burning even though it probably feels great and is certainly good for you. -
