need help with protein.
Sleeveless in seattle replied to 521Diva's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
An 11 oz premier protein has 30 grams, so two of those plus a Greek yogurt is another 12. That hits 72 for me which my NUT says 65-75. I'm 12 days out. At 5 days I wasn't getting quite that much but it got easier much quicker than I thought. Water is a bit more important at this point. I'd aim for 48-64 oz if you can. -
Upping calories by 400?
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Seela's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm less than 2 weeks out and getting 600 calories in right now. I can't see a problem with coming close to hitting 1200 at 5 weeks which is what my nutritionist wants. One premier protein shake is 160. A cheese stick is 80-100. Snack on a few almonds. That adds up quickly! -
Did you have heel spurs or plantar fasciitis...
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I had plantar fasciitis and the doc said it was from wearing cheap, non-supportive shoes. I switched to a well fitted pair of a Brooks tennis shoes and Naturalizer dress shoes and it slowly went away. There are also good stretches for it I found online. Been gone for years now even though I've been in the 300's this whole time. On a side note, my 110 lb friend has it too. -

Constant burping post op
Sleeveless in seattle posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Got sleeved yesterday morning a and ever since, every time I take a sip, I have a burp. Sometimes it's immediate, sometimes it builds a little pressure first then a burp comes. The surgeon said its due to swelling. I also had a hiatal hernia fixed. Has any one else had the constant burps and, if so, how long did they last? -
Percentage of protein, fat & carbs
Sleeveless in seattle replied to healthbound1's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Only a week and a half so just on protein drinks, yoghurt, soups, etc, but even on my pre-op diet it ended up being about 47-52% protein, 30% carbs -
Recommend your non chocolate protein shakes!
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Butter Britches's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I haven't seen this one on the forum but my NUT approved Big Train Fit Frappe if you like a frappuccinno type drink. I can mix the vanilla with ice and water for a 20 oz frappe with 21 G protein, 130 calories and 1 g sugar. I add Torani sugar free salted caramel for a change. I also like the Premier strawberries and cream from Costco. They're not delicious but they're decent and have 30 G protein. -
I'm praying for a loss in shoe size! Anything will help! I have the hardest time finding women's size 12 shoes, especially anything half way cute!

Fiddle man, Double standard with health care, too. I have a "premium" health insurance according to the federal standards. They are require to cover care for drug abuse and alcohol abuse, even tobacco cessation programs however exclude all weight loss related treatment. They are treated as a disease yet me being very overweight since the age of 6....well, that's a choice I guess.

getting daily protein
Sleeveless in seattle replied to adavis77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My suggestion is try several different types of protein. Premier Protein gave me severe diarrhea the first several times I tried it. All of a sudden on time #4 I had no issues. The Unjury I can't handle cold, makes me feel gross and smells gross too. Once I tried heated with milk (the extra calories and 8 g extra protein are much needed now)and put it in a coffee cup with a lid, I loved it. Also added a splash of sugar free coffee syrup for variation. Experiment until you can tolerate something. If you can eat yogurt, go for a Greek yogurt at 12 G protein. -
getting daily protein
Sleeveless in seattle replied to adavis77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Adavis77, I never used dosing cups. I have a cheap Water bottle that has it marked at every 5 oz and I just eyeballed it. Just took a sip every time I thought of it. With my warm Protein drink I put it in an insulated steel cup so it stayed warm the whole hour it took me to drink it. I tried that one cold and couldn't get it down. With the lid on the cup it kept me from having to smell the whey haha! The cold Premier Protein, I just shake and pour a few ounces at a time and put the rest back so I can sip. -
Please help
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Maltese gal's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can only say what I've read. Sleeve recovery is easier, it is a simpler, less risky procedure. What is taken is about 70% of your stomach and all the rest is left intact! My surgeon said short term you probably lose quicker with bypass but at 3 years it is pretty close to the same. And you don't have yo worry about malabsorption either. -

Each doctor is individual. Mine used a tight 40 which he says isn't much different than a 34 that is not done tightly.

How do you melt it? The yellow has no protein anyways, it's all in the white. -

getting daily protein
Sleeveless in seattle replied to adavis77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not at 4 days, but by 7 I finally did. I'm not having any problems fining though. Today I had 8 oz skim milk and a scoop of unjury chocolate splendor (heated it up like cocoa, that's over 29 g), a Greek yogurt, split in 2 sessions (12 g), tomato soup made with milk (1 cup total for 5 g), and another "cocoa". My total is 75 grams protein, 517 calories through dinner. Yesterday I had a Premier Protein shake for breakfast. Took an hour to drink the 11 oz but it was 30 G protein right there. Hope that helps. -
Self Pay and Discouraged
Sleeveless in seattle replied to Gammy10's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I took out a loan on my husbands retirement. It was 3% interest. They cut us a check in a week. Payments are taken directly from his paycheck and all the interest is paid back yo his retirement. No credit check, it's already your money. -

Its the little things that make it with it
Sleeveless in seattle replied to miah_maring's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wonderful post! I am so excited for you, you are doing great and a lot of it was you...not the surgery! Now that you have the surgery you have a great tool to do even greater things with! After all your success so far, I have no doubt that you'll do well! -
Our society is obsessed with super thin but has gotten so used to obese as a "normal" that even 100 lbs overweight may not look so bad to them. As long as your BMI and comorbidities indicate surgery is right for you, then blow it off.

Did anyone grow in height after WLS?
Sleeveless in seattle replied to NMJG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
During this process I've both "lost" and "gained" height. My normal dr measures me at 5'7-1/2"......first visit at surgeon in a main area measured me at 5'6" and was adamant that everyone shrinks as they age (even though it had only been a year). Two months later at the surgeon again, they measured me in a different are at 5'8". This was pre-surgery and I had only lost 30 lbs. she did mention she has heard from others that they get different measurements at different places. They are not all calibrated really well. -
1st week post op protein drink! :) yum!
Sleeveless in seattle replied to bsmalls's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I've gotten it at walmart in a plastic jar in the peanut butter section. It was cheaper on amazon but you have to be careful to compare the package sizes and different sellers! It is a powdered form of peanut butter where most of the fat has been extracted. I use one tablespoon of the chocolate pb2 in a large shake and it has 22 calories, 1/2 g fat and 1-1/2 g sugar and 2 G protein. A $4.50 jar at walmart gives me 30 servings that way. For comparison, my jif pb has 95 calories, 8 g fat, the same sugar and 3-1/2 G protein. You can add water to reconstitute also. -

I also like the new strawberry flavor from them. Little less of a funky flavor although I don't mind the chocolate either. VAnilla is good blended with some chocolate pb2 and Torani sugar free salted caramel syrup. My fave so far. -
