    Newbie!

I had my surgery ten months ago, and it was the best thing I have ever done for myself. I had always struggled with my weight and was really not even sure that VSG would work for me, but I knew I had to do something. At 5' 7 my highest weight was 298lbs, on the day of my surgery I was 270lbs. After 10 months I now weigh 177lbs and I feel fantastic, I hope by my one year anniversary to lose my last 16lbs to my goal weight. This surgery can help you reach your goal, its a wonderful tool if you follow all your post op directions. Good luck!

    Beyond Excited

I felt that way too. I never had any surgery or hospital stay before my sleeve so I was really nervous but excited. I think its normal to feel that way, good luck!

Seriously, veterans, how long does hair loss last?

Hi, I am ten months out and can totally feel your pain!! my hair loss started at about 5 months and lasted for 4 months......I also used special shampoos, vitamins, extra protein, and no styling and my hair still came out. When I took a shower and shampooed my hair....clumps used to come out! I had resolved that I would just need to wear a wig, when all the sudden it stopped. all of the sudden I noticed that I had stopped shedding. My primary doc told me that this was pretty normal....but scary. My hair has now rebounded nicely, its silky and much fuller and fluffier. Hope this helps!

    SoCal kaiser harbor city

Hi, you will have to do the 12 week options program after your orientation. That gives you time and information you will need to make your decision whether or not you want to have the surgery. I had my surgery 10 months ago with Dr. Belzberg and he was great! the program is a lot of work but it will really help you make an informed decision. Good Luck, I had a great experience and wish you the same!

    Four days post op

Hi, I took four weeks off of work....could have probably gone back after two. I found that I had good energy in the morning, but got really tired in the afternoon. I told everybody that I was having surgery and got a lot of concern looks. Well almost 10 months out I have lost 92lbs and the only kind of looks I get now are appreciative ones! People will actually ask did you eat. you need to eat more, etc........and never did I ever think anyone would say that to me. So buckle up and enjoy the ride, you cant believe how much your life is about to change. Good Luck

    Water question

You will always have to drink water slowly.....at first very slowly, but after a couple of months a little more quickly. Hope that helps

    5 days post op

The first week is the worst, I was able to do so much more with each passing day. The surgery was so successful it was worth the sound effects and discomfort! Good Luck
  9. I ate eggs, string cheese, cottage cheese with canned fruit, ground chicken and turkey, greek yogurt and most veggies were ok if you cooked them until they were really soft......also mushed up beans. Also did protein smoothies with all kind of fresh fruit. Good Luck!

    Need some advice/help/motivation...

You can't change what you've done so far-so don't beat yourself up for it. What you can do is make the choice to change what you do tomorrow. You have lost 60lbs and that is a great accomplishment, so give yourself a pat on the back and remember that tomorrow is a brand new day.....you can do this!

    Cold feet

Hi, I also has dieted for many years before I had my sleeve procedure. In my heart I truly could not believe that this would work for me since everything else had failed. I was also an emotional eater-but this procedure changed that for me. I have a new relationship with food, I eat because I have to and in fact have come to the point that my family, co-workers and friends encourage me to eat! I had my surgery 9 months ago and thought I would be lucky if I lost 50 lbs. As of today I have lost 92 lbs and am still losing. At this point I eat what I like, but my likes have changed-I would rather eat greek yogurt with granola than ice cream and I feel great! Good luck with whatever decision you make
  12. Any medical procedure has associated risks-I had never had surgery prior to my sleeve and had no idea how I would react to anesthesia, I was really scared! I decided to have my surgery because I knew I could not spend one more minute in the body I had.....my surgery went great and 9 months-92 lbs later I would not change a thing. Good luck in making the best decision for you!
