  1. Last step down and I am omw. I am super excited!
  2. Know that many physicians that once did the band no longer do. This is related to the high complication risk and often having to remove the band itself. 7500 is not a lot when you begin to consider the benefits. If you add up the cost you will save of food and medications and other complications that obesity causes, you generally will repay yourself in a couple of years. Having second thoughts is normal, I hope you find peace with whatever you decide.
  3. So I read a post about googling your doc and reading reviews. All the reviews on my surgeon going back to 2003 are great and fit in with everything I have heard about him. According to his office, he has done over 5000 procedures and has had only 1 leak, an no other major complications. But what also came up is that he got a DUII in April. My question is do I have the right to ask him about this and if so how on earth do I bring it up? On a side note his DUII was received at 152 am on a Friday, and he is off that day. It is less concerning than had it been mid week, though I am so against drunk driving that it still irritates me.
  4. I was just about to post the same. Just as I would not expect an orthopedic Doc to know much about diabetes care, don't expect your regular doc to know the ins and outs of this surgery. As far as lumping all WLS together, I believe that is common. Until you are interested as a patient or support person, they all are the same. The main issue with this, as we can all attest to, is that every surgeon seems to have their own after care protocols, so research is only as good as the info you find, and its super conflicting.

    Questions for post ops...

I am preop, and having my food funeral over the next few days. My preop diet starts Tues. I will have a total of 8 weeks of liquids only, this will take me thru Turkey day. I imagine that I will be having these moments as well. On a happy note, I do not have to prepare Turkey Dinner and watch everyone eat it lol.

    Drinking while Eating

My goal is to get in 60 gr of protein and 600 cal in a day at the end of 3 weeks. It is difficult now, but later it will not be (or so I have read). The purpose of following the no eating and drinking together rule now is to make it a lifetime habit.

    Chinese food

My Nut said no rice or flour products for 9 months to a year. The more I read, it appears my team is very restrictive compared to others. I guess I would ask your team, and then try when they give the ok.
  19. I am preop, so I have no experience with this situation, I only know that my surgeon, my NUT and my therapist all stressed the importance of not throwing up. At each appointment they said that vomiting risks perforation.

    Protein help

I am pre-op so by no means know what I am saying, but other forums have talked about isopure and other protein waters. My Nut suggests cutting the sweetness with plain yogurt. Good luck and keep us posted on what works.
  21. And then of course the 2 week preop liquid diet. But patients from this office are hugely successful. One gal that I work 128 pounds lighter and is still loosing about a pound a week 14 months out.
  22. Even if your doc does not impose a calorie restriction or guide, you might want to see what others are and follow that. My guidelines are attempt to get in 60 gr of protein and 600 cals a day by week 3. After that, maintain until around 9 months to a year and by a year I should be at 900 cals a day and 90 gr of protein. Having no rules seems scary, as this surgery is only a tool. On a side note, my cousin also had no rules, and after 14 months has still only lost 40 pounds.
  23. I am never ever to use a straw again. 3 days of clear liquids, 18 days of full liquids, week 3- 3months is puree, 3 months -6 months soft to regular foods. No flour products until 9-12 months. My Surgeon has done over 5 thousand and has only had 1 leak.
  24. Per my NUT, the issue with caffeine is not only acid, but the absorption rate is different, just like with alcohol post surgery. While I am not sure of the effects of getting too much caffeine being a huge issue, just be cautious!

    Feeling Great

Grats! Just remember to be kind to yourself. We didn't get here overnight or in a few months, it is ok if we don't reach our goal in a few months. But if you do....YAY!
