I have been struggling with my weight since my mid 30's. Back then I was active enough that if I had self discipline with eating and working out I could lose weight. At that time I was less than 40 lbs overweight. I could lose up to 10 lbs on my own, Then I talked to my Dr about weight loss medication and was put on phentermine. I had great success with it. I would take it for 2-3 months and would lose up to 20-25 lbs. I repeated this process for several years but the loss kept getting less and less. In 2010 I added a high intensity workout program and lost 50 lbs in 3 months time. I injured myself working out then had a series of events/circumstances that took me on a major downward spiral with my health and weight. Several more attempts to lose weight with phentermine failed, so my Dr ordered Qsymia in Feb this year. After 3 months I had not lost any weight at all and was continuing to gain weight. When I reached being almost 100 lb overweight, high bp and high cholesterol, I asked her about bariatric surgery. She had no problem making the referral to a surgeon. She did advise me NOT to do the lap-band.
Several months passed between her referral, submitting my application and getting the call in Sept to meet with the Dietician, Nurse and Counselor. After the first appointment everything has been very fast. My insurance approved immediately, and I was able to be put on the surgery schedule on Oct 22. I am SO excited!!!
In the background of being obese I struggle with chronic pain, fibromyalgia, osteo arthritis, and random tendinitis. It is a cruel and vicious cycle of managing my pain, and attempting to be physically active to lose weight. Any activity causes more injury and debilitating pain. Being obese only adds to the pressure on my body and makes all of my symptoms worse. I am looking forward to having a permanent tool to help me shed this excess and manage my weight and my overall well being.
I can't wait!!!!!
