Man how totally frustrating! In that case, I'd probably be looking into Mexico if it were me.

    Insurance

Ugh vent... So I called my insurance to check on my approval... They said that the dr. office put the surgery date out to 1/24/14, so they're not in a hurry to process it. ARG! I called my coordinator, she said that isn't true, they process as normal whatever the date. I told her they asked me to have the dr. resubmit with a closer/sooner date of procedure so it would be processed sooner... She called insurance, moved the date up to 12/2/13 and now we're waiting for approval again... I let my coordinator know that my insurance was changing on the first of the year due to insurance regulation changes with the ACA, and I'm not sure my employer will be covering WLS benefit any longer. It I don't get the surgery in Nov/Dec I may not be able to proceed! She assured me as soon as the approval comes through I could be scheduled in a matter of weeks. Come on insurance!!!!!!!!!

look for me: lissavsg That confuses me... I have no idea what it means... So, if you have morbid obesity ONLY they won't cover it, and without morbid obesity it won't be covered? Sounds like maybe they're looking for co-morbidities as well?

It depends more on whether your employer has chosen to include it in their plan benefits, and not the actual insurance company. Most of the major ones cover WLS if the employers have paid to have it in their plan. Incidentally, this is how the 6 month medically supervised diet requirement works as well. Your employer (not your plan) determines what hoops you will have to jump through before approval. That is why there are so many varied results with similar healthcare plans. It's helpful to obtain the list of covered benefits from your HR department...
  5. Hi all, I'm a newbie (obviously). Just awaiting insurance approval and will schedule for sleeve surgery as soon as possible afterwards. I know this is incredibly impossible to answer, as results vary depending on myriad factors such as metabolism, diet, age, gender, etc... But, I suppose I'm asking if all efforts are made textbook style (diet-wise), and no other health concerns were present (pre-menopause, no medications, etc), how long would it take on average to lose 100-120 lbs after surgery? I know that it will eventually come off, but I'd like to take a poll of sorts. Please post your results 5'8 41 female weigh 265 size 18-22 depending on maker goal 145-150 goal size (totally unknown) Thanks for playing!!!
  6. I read your story, and I'm so glad you're ok! What a fright!
  7. I get it, results vary. I'm entering this cautiously. Which is why I'm simply asking how long it took. No values given either way. Just research. I'm new to the sleeve (meaning I haven't gotten it yet), but I've been researching wls for 8 years. Just waited until I was done having babies before I did it. I have lost hundreds (and gained them back) over the years, so I know how slowly it can come off. Like I said, this is just a harmless poll.

    Insurance

I agree this is the WORST!!!! We submitted to insurance on the 24th (last Thursday) and they said it could take up to 15 business days, although it is rarely that long. I'm freaking out!!! Technically, I could have to wait until 11/14 to hear an answer! Ugh... I'm praying to be sleeved over xmas.
  9. It's just a poll, I'm not writing a thesis. Awesome, thanks!
  10. I'm just trying to get an idea of whether it's possible to lose the weight in a year's time, longer than a year or shorter... Again, just an idea on average for those who have already lost 100 pounds.

    Waiting is driving me crazy!

I asked my insurance (United HC) for the "approvals department" right when I got the first customer service person.

    Waiting is driving me crazy!

I'm with you! My insurance got my paperwork just today (my coord. sent it on Friday) and so I'm waiting now for the insurance to approve/deny it. Anywhere between 1-15 bus days. I'll be calling every few days alright!

    6 month wait

Is your insurance requiring it or is your medical group? Sometimes we don't realize it's the dr. not the insurance. If Dr., you could see someone else!

Well I couldn't help myself! I called and made sure they got the request for preapproval from my Dr. and yep they got it today! So officially, I should know the answer within 7-10 business days... I'M DYING HERE!

    November buddies where are you?

I just got the call that my paperwork was submitted to insurance today!!! The waiting game begins... My coordinator says that they usually wait 7 business days before they follow up with insurance so I'm on pins and needles. That will be Nov. 1st. You can bet though, that I'll be calling my insurance on Monday just to make sure they got it! I'm not patient!!! I'm really hoping to be a member of the Nov. club, but I'm thinking I'll likely be a Dec or Jan sleever...
