bmi 41 and can't drop under 40 on pre-op program
Photo925 replied to Dmog74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would ask the insurance company. I have a similar situation and when I asked about dropping weight while in my six months of classes, they said that it would not matter if my BMI drops below 40. I also do not have any co-morbidities -
I'm totally with you!!!! Lose vs loose dives me crazy when I read it!!

I don't have a doctor yet as I am still going through the Kaiser program. Once we jump through all their hoops, we get sent over to Pacific Bariatric
-
Hi....I have a question. I will be using Pacific Bariatric in San Diego via Kaiser and Im curious if you did a pre-op diet/fast for pacific bariatric??

It really depends on your insurance requirements. I have a six month class I have to attend weekly, but Ive actually met a lot of people with my same insurance but just in a different county and they have the same class in only 3 months.

Request surgery date before 3 month wait
Photo925 replied to butterfly2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree that the waiting game is actually benefit. My insurance says the whole process takes 8-9 months from your first consultation to actual surgery date. Back when I started, that process seemed soooooo long!! but now im still about 3 months out (hoping for a June date) and Im thankful for the time to really prepare myself and read as much as possible. -
Cheating the consultation scale...

I never even thought of wearing weights!!! I actually just drank 4-5 bottles of Water in the parking lot before I went in -
I promise it gets easier. I agree with what others say...do your research and get yourself fully prepared. I remember when I was still a minimum of six months out to ever finish the classes that I have to take. Once a little time passes, time just starts to fly. Now I look back and can't believe how much time has passed and how quick it seems like it has gone. I think we all get impatient...once we realize that this is the choice we want and the right decision for us, we want it to happen quick, and as frustrating as the wait can be, it's kind of a blessing. The time helps you to prepare both mentally and physically. Don't worry...surgery date will be here before you know it!!

Feb 28 came so fast
Photo925 replied to CubsWinCubsWin's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats and well wishes for a super speedy recovery!! You are totally right...It's amazing how quick things sneak up on you. I'm still many weeks out from surgery, but its seems so long ago that I started my 6 months of classes that everyone said would go so quick. They may not have gone quick in the beginning, but it's flying by now!! -
anyone hoping for an early summer surgery?
Photo925 replied to tiredmama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I found out today that people that are in the same program as Im in are moving forward with surgery within as few as 3 weeks from when their classes end. I don't want to get my hopes up, but this is very exciting for me as I finish class on May 1st...I would love to have surgery before the end of June and it's crazy how quickly it is approaching after starting this journey in September!! Only 9 more weeks of classes!! so amped!! -
First consult today. Im confused
Photo925 replied to hopeful2loose2014's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
NUT is your nutritionist...you will more than likely have to talk to one somewhere along the line!! I haven't been sleeved yet, looking at May to June cause Im in the Kaiser program that includes six months of classes. My sister was sleeved and it worked wonderfully for her and you'll meet more and more people on the sights whose only regret is not doing it sooner!! -
I agree about the potatoes.....I haven't even had surgery yet, but my plan is all high Protein options. Not potatoes or applesauce because I want to be as successful as possible and carbs are going to be a huge no no for a long while. That being said.....I can imagine that Protein shakes have to get really old after a certain amount of time, so I don't think a spoonful or two will be too bad...but that's a slippery slope also!! Sorry if that wasn't helpful at all!!! Im all over the place!!!

I think that you are in the right place. You might find on here that most people will prefer the sleeve to the lap band and everyone has their own reasons, but I will only tell you mine. From my research, the band has far more complications than the sleeve and there are many many people on the forums who actually have conversions from the band to the sleeve. Me personally, I like the success odds of the sleeve better (plus I have Kaiser and they technically offer the sleeve cause they have to, but they only do a handful of them a year) To me that kinda says something too cause they don't stand behind that option either. This may sound silly but I also didn't like the idea of the foreign object in my gut. I've also read a lot about slipping of the band which can cause problems as well. Ultimately you have to do what will fit best with your lifestyle, but those are my two cents!! And welcome to the sights!! Check things out!! There is so much good info!! -

Just curious. Im not sure that I have to take that kind of test, but when there are so many questions (like 567!!) did you find yourself answering what you thought they wanted you to answer, or were the questions so obscure that you couldn't even tell what the proper answer was?? -
Having Trouble Losing Weight Needed to Qualify for Surgery

Having Trouble Losing Weight Needed to Qualify for Surgery
Photo925 replied to Photo925's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks so much for the encouragement. Kaiser gives you a lot in terms of info that you will need for surgery and aftercare, but my instructor isn't very good in terms of telling us how to diet now. She is also super against Protein shakes except for right after surgery. So when I tell her that I drink Protein Shakes in the morning other wise I will just skip Breakfast,, she frowns on it, but I feel like it is better than eating nothing (or the energy drinks I used to have) Thank You Blondie...Im may message you later. My sister had her surgery through Kaiser and didn't reach the 10% either, but she was at like 8% so at least she was close. I just don't want to go through all the classes and have them tell me come back when I've lost the weight. -
anyone hoping for an early summer surgery?
Photo925 replied to tiredmama's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have my last class on May 1st. After that I have to do a couple more appointments, so I'm hoping that I'll be scheduled for early June also. Im trying just to take care of everything I possibly can now so that nothing is a set back. My biggest thing right now is the required weight loss....I have to lose 10% of my weight before class is over or that can slow you down. I've been doing good lately so Im hopeful I will have this completed!! -
How many calories do you consume on the stages after surgery?
Photo925 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hi All, So I've been on here awhile now and I definitely have the basics down about eating Protein first, chew chew chew, don't drink Water while you eat and how often and much you are supposed to drink after surgery. But my questions is about calories...for those of you that had surgery already, did you monitor calories after surgery? And/or at what point following surgery did you start monitoring your calories? When you are months out from surgery, what was the range of calories that you eat? Just curious, I've seen some people say they are as low as 400 and others say around 800 and I recognize that everyone is different, but does you doctor give you a range that you should be at after the fact? Also, how many times in the day (several months after surgery) did you eat? My sister was sleeved and she spaces her food out into 6 meals in the day, but im my classes, the NUT says that is a no no. I realize that everyone has to do what is best for them, just looking for some onsite on what people have done and been successful. Thank You!! -
Thats great that she is so supportive!!! I get surprised sometimes when I'm nervous to tell someone and they are super supportive...its a good suprised

I have it set to record on Tuesday evening at 8PM (thats on the west coast...not sure if it is the same everywhere)

Relationships after the sleeve. Are you happy and in it to win it? Are you ready to leave/divorce your tormentor?
Photo925 replied to buplee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This is a very good topic...Im glad I found it cause I would love some advice. A little background. My boyfriend and I were together for over a year when he split with me last April. He basically blamed a lot of the problems in the relationship on me instead of trying to work them out and he just bailed. Around October he started seeing the errors of his ways and at Christmas he got up the courage to contact me. He admitted a lot of fault and now wants to get back together. Im happy that he wants to get back together, but he did hurt me so Im taking it very slowly. He is very supportive of my weight loss surgery. We are both very overweight and I had even thought about surgery while we were together, but I just wasnt mentally prepared for it yet. I still have a couple of months to go in my program and look to have surgery in early summer. What troubles me is this...I do not worry that he wont be supportive..I know he will be very supportive and cheer me on all along the way....but I worry that since I will have increased self esteem, that I may start to feel like I settled. He is a good guy and we did have a good relationship while we were together, but Im worried that my shallow side may take over and because he hurt me in the past that I may take the opportunity to hurt him back. Im not really a vengeful person, and I have forgiven him for the things he did, but there's this little nagging notion in the back of my head that makes me think that Im settling, but Im not sure if maybe Im just worried that he will hurt me again. I think Im rambling now.....
