I always blame the surgeon who took out my tonsils when I was 11 years old for my weight issues. Before then I was very thin due to the pain of eating. After they took out my tonsils I discovered food.
I used food for comfort and rewards in my life.
In December last year while at an event, my photo was taken, I was sitting down and I could see that my stomach was really huge, and I mean really huge, no exaggeration. The photo sent me into free fall as my stomach did not look that big as seen from above.
I had been toying with the idea of the Gastric Sleeve Surgery. I had met people who had the Stomach Banding and each of them had problems with the band.
I did my research and had my appointment with a specialist locally who said he did not want to take the risk due to my specific medical history. He referred me to a surgeon in the city of Perth with much bigger hospitals and a hospital that had an Intensive Care Unit.
Have had all my pre op tests and appointments and am now patiently waiting until the 17th October. Not too long to wait now.
During the pre op tests they found I had sleep apnoea and I now sleep with a mask. The surgeon is convinced I will not need it within a couple of months after the op as my weight is the cause.
After 8 years on Insulin for my diabetes I have now come off the Insulin due to the weight I have already lost. I have lost 18kg while waiting for my op.
I have good family and friends who are supporting me on this trip. My son is getting married on the 24th January 2014 and I am looking forward to having a nice outfit to wear. As they are gettiing married on the beach I will be able to walk down the steps and onto the sand and be a real part of the ceremony.
