Amazed where I am today. When I had the complications I thought I was really doomed. I have no regrets and thankful where I am at today. In 10 months I lost 140 lbs. I'm doing yoga now and have tons of energy. Not on any medications and so looking forward to doing more with my life. The pictures don't lie. Don't ever give up, no matter what is thrown your way. It's not how you endured the storm but how you danced in the rain!!!

Well all my surgery was 10/29 and I ended up back in the hospital on Sunday at 2am with a 104 fever. I have a leak at the bottom of my esphogus where it meets the top of my new stomach. I was operated on again to fix the leak with no success recovering in ICU with more 104 fevers surrounded with ice packs. The only thing the procedure did was maintain the leak in some extra fat they moved around it. GI doc then came in and went down my throat to clip the leak from the inside and place a feeding tube to bypass my throat and stomach to allow it to heal. Today is day 9 in the hospital. Working on tolerating the feeding. Goal is 55ml per hour. I am at 40, so almost there. This has been a struggle and the risks are REAL. If you are thinking about thus surgery be sure you are ready to handle any complications that come up. I will be going home with the feeding tube for 3 weeks along with a picc line that more drugs will be given through and blood samples taken out. I'm learning how to keep the lines flushed. A nurse from out patient svcs will be coming to ny home. I will let you know when I get home. ..hopefully tomorrow...Please pray I do. Or could be Thursday. I'm sick of this hospital but know this will pass and be a memory. I'm focused on losing the weight but damn did I have to go through this? ! God Bless

I made it through surgery and my pain is being managed. Actually looking forward to walking some tonight. The doc has been hesitant to let me walk just yet. And...I'm not hungry!

Well I've been home for a week. Tube was kinked abd had it adjusted yesterday. I've started throwing up saliva. Looks like it is from build up of stomach acid. Doc just called in some meds for me just now to help with nausea and the acid. Two more weeks on the tube but I requested a scan leak test for next week in hopes I can get this tube out. I've had it since 11/8. Just take it day by day and glad to be home. Don't want to go back to the hospital.

I got home yesterday at 3pm. At 7:30 Feeding pump was delivered and setup that runs while I sleep. Was taught by the nurse on how to hang my iv, spike the bag, change lines and how to flush my picc and basically said I was on my own but can call the 24 on call line if needed. 3 weeks of this and I'm hoping it goes by fast. It is a God send to be home. So if this is what it takes to be home, so be it. I keep telling myself this is only temporary. The silver lining is that I have lost 27 lbs in 12 days. Trying to stay hydrated as much as possible is hard. I basically add 4 ounces of water into my tube periodically to reach 28 oz of water in top of flushes and putting in 4 oz of protein 4 times a day....and flushing after that too so the line doesn't clog. I did have two jp drains and one was removed. I hope to have the other taken out at next week's appt. Its like grown with me so I know it's gonna hurt when its removed. Oh to be able to sleep on my side again.

Update: they moved my tube deeper yesterday and it caused my body to have a fit. It's not like the sob was gentle either. So slight fever last night and white blood cell count jumped to 13 but going down. Normal range is under 10. Looks like one more day. I just want to be home. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. Please pray I have no issues tonight so I can go home. Today is day 10.

This was my first ever surgery. Just walked. It does feel better to walk. Can't wait to have this tube taken out of my nose. I don't regret this decision at all. I've got my eye on my goals.

Surgeon asked that I start my liquids sooner. I'm on day 2 and doing good so far. However, I have a craving for chocolate so bad right now, lol. Sent from my iPad using VST app

Third day of liquids. Never knew oatmeal would taste so good and for some sort of texture. I'm allowed some fruit and raw veggies too. Headaches are upon me due to no caffeine but that should go away soon. I'm allowed one cup of coffee but I don't like plain coffee. I want a caramel macchiato from Starbucks so bad.
