December 2013 Post-Op
Getting-used-to-new-me posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wanted to start this thread by asking what everyone does to deal with the pain and the boredom of the downtime of early post-op. I've heard that you don't have an appetite for a while after surgery. I've also heard you have to take it easy for the first few weeks. I can only imagine taking just so much tv and movies. So what do you do with your time? -

For what it's worth, there are several good threads on the Post Gastric Bypass Forum. I saw one on Poop and I started one for December 2013 surgeries. Although I think topic specific threads would be more interesting than my December 2013 surgeries thread. -

No pain meds? I know everyone's different. But I'm afraid with me at least it'll be no pain no gain. -

Thanks Andrew! I have to be at the hospital at 5am and my surgery starts at 730am. What a long day that'll be for us. But we'll likely be sleeping, eh? I hope and pray it all goes well for all of us! -

Im sorry about the pain. That's a big worry of mine as well. I go under this Tuesday. I asked our dietician if anyone has buyers remorse. She said yes, everyone does! She quickly added that everyone changes their minds by about two weeks later. So you're right to think that and feel that. I hope and pray you feel better sooner than two weeks from now. I hope and pray we all do too. -

I'm on day 10 of my 14 day Liquid Protein diet. I'm also not hungry until I stay up late. But since I work an early shift, most nights I have to get to bed early too. That prevents a lot of temptations I'm thinking. But I also think all that protein and all that liquid keeps me feeling full and not hungry too. It also keeps me going . . . . to the bathroom! -

I don't think I'll ever prefer protein shakes again as long as I live! On the plus side, I'm not hungry at all. I suppose that has to do with the protein satisfying me and the fact that that's what I have to eat/drink all day. -

Great news! The ARNP from the surgeons group says my HBP, high cholesterol, sleep apnea, fatty liver, and high a1c will all go away. And arthritis and other problems should slow down their progression. It's hard to look forward to something this drastic otherwise.
