Excellent! Congratulations! I hope I can say the same soon. Maybe your guilt has to do with all the times you heard your medical concerns were going to be with you for the rest of your life. Maybe those feelings have to do with the hormones released by the ketones we're using for fuel right now. Anyway, you've reason to really celebrate!

Good to know. There's still hope for me.

Me too! I've also added strained cream soups, sf popsicles, sf puddings and non-fat yogurt. I also try to get in a protein shake each day. It's still so BORING! Generic gas x, liquid Tylenol, and milk of magnesia have become mainstays. I'm hoping my need for this stuff reduces. The weight loss is great. But I did this to reduce my medication needs, not increase them.

Great news! I'm only down about 38 since starting last July. But 26 of that loss happened since my surgery on the 10th! I've been averaging about a two pound loss per day, without trying. But I'm not hungry. I have to force the liquid "meals" and water drinking. Are you having trouble with that? I'm dealing with nausea and gas too.

Welcome! My story is surgery on the 10th. Full liquids now until the 24th. Post-op appointment on the 27th.

I'm taking bp meds. And cholesterol meds and blood thinners. I asked my surgeon at the hospital if I could quit my meds. He said he wanted me to continue until my after surgery appointment on the 27th. So that's what I'm doing. How did your appointment go?

Welcome! I'm so sorry you've had to endure two of these surgeries. I hope all goes well for you this time.

That's a great idea! I don't know why I didn't think of it myself. I checked it this morning and it's 110/86, which is lower than it was pre-surgery with bp meds. I'll email my doctors about it today. It was in the normal range in the hospital without meds. Thanks!

My bp was low in the hospital too. I'm hoping they say I can quit all meds when I see them on the 27th. I'm concerned a little that my tiredness is partly due to the bp med.

Yes I'm taking bp, cholesterol, and blood thinner meds. I'm taking the chewable multi and chewable calcium too. My surgeon and his ARNP say I should be off all meds after a while. How about you?

I need to explain. I'm up to 7 minutes on my treadmill at 2 miles per hour. I'm trying to add a minute each day. One day I'll increase the mph. When I get out I have to have someone with me and I'm out of energy pretty quickly. With this fat burning ketosis I could sleep all day everyday. But that would slow my recovery I believe. I'm never hungry. But I'm staying up with water and liquid meals. Let me know about your doctor visit. Mine isn't scheduled until the 27th.

That sounds very familiar. I've only had two bms since surgery on the 10th. MOM helped me with one yesterday. I too have pain on my right side, lower down. I also have bruising on that area. I'll ask about it at my two week followup on the 27th if not sooner. Everyday it gets a little better. But I still have the same pains I described earlier. The good news is that I've lost 24 pounds since surgery on the 10th! And I'm still averaging about a two pound per day loss. The ketosis keeps me sleepy. But I still hit the treadmill everyday and go outside at least a short time each day.

I am. Thanks for doing this! I'm still working through the full liquid diet and constipation and diarrhea and gas. Yes, all in the same day. Im also still having incision pain and scrambled guts pain. How about you?

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Harassment and hostile work environments are against the law where I live. No one should have to endure either. Is there a legal or personnel authority you could contact?

That's what I'm hoping for, no more meds!

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Me too! And for those who think this was the easy way out, they have NO IDEA! And for their sakes, I hope they never do. But I could always appreciate a little more compassion from them!

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

My pain's still there. But it's mostly incision and"gut" pain. Not gas pain. I can again recommend this RNY to all who need it. I hope my posting's haven't dissuaded any here from going through this. Please remember to do everything recommended by your medical staff. Especially the pain meds. Walk when they say. Lay on the pain side cause gas rises and moves through you better that way. At home, do what they told you to do. And a few days later, hopefully sooner than me, you'll feel like you can recommend this again too!

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Thanks everyone! I hope the same. I'm almost ready to recommend this RNY again. Almost, but not yet. :-( Maybe tomorrow.

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

I'm finally home. Yay! I got to shower before I left the hospital. There were complications with mine. But I'm on the mend now. Gas pain: walking helps, iv pain meds help, laying on the pain side helps because gas rises and it helps move through the system. They gave me xrays to find blockages. They made me drink contrast solution. The contrast solution causes diarrhea. I think I'm finally over the diarrhea. At home I'm trying to stay hydrated, keep up my full liquid diet, keep walking and ankle pumps. But mostly I'm resting. My pain is still around 3 on the 10 scale. I hope I feel better before two weeks from now. I hope we all do.

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Thanks for asking. All was not well. I'm still in the hospital. Surgery was at 7:30AM 12/10/2013, and I'm still here. The gas pain was 10 out of 10 and had me crying like a baby. I'm not a cryer. But I haven't had this kind of pain for almost twenty years. Last time was when I ruptured a disc in my lower back. Please everyone pay attention to this: USE THE IV PAIN MEDS! Don't try to tough it out; they can't figure it out and you'll be hating life and this RNY decision if you don't have the pain managed. I had other complications related to my heart conditions. But pain MUST be controlled before anything else! I'll update my status again this weekend. I do appreciate all your thoughts and prayers!

I'm so sorry Andrew. I hope it does work out for you before year end.

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

Mine is in the morning too and I've had the same concerns. A coworker had it done 4 years ago, same procedure, had no pain and no pain med! My doc has already told me I'll have a pain pump in my IV and already gave me a prescription for when I get home. Also have me something else to take twice a day when I get home but it's not for pain it's for healing or an antibiotic I can't remember. I think it's different for everyone. I'm praying you and I are pain-free and on our way to a healthy life here this time tomorrow! Another weird thing is my doc put me on a liquid diet for 2 weeks, not just two days I've been on liquid protein for two weeks, and just clear liquids today. I too hope and pray for our success tomorrow!

    December Surgeries!?!?!?

I totally agree with you. My surgery is less than 24 hours away. And allowing myself to be totally under anesthetic . . . I've never liked that lack of control, or the loss of memory of that time. I know the anesthetic is for the best. I know this surgery is for the best. I need it to help reduce my need for medications. But before that, I need it so I won't have the problems that require those medications. So, for now I'm just focusing on the plan: Clear liquids only today, staying busy, completing the daily projects I have to do today, etc. I'm trying to let tomorrow happen as it should. I don't know if that helps you or not. I hope it does. But it's all I can do.

What about constipation during the first weeks after surgery. I'd been using psillium husk fiber (metamucil) before surgery. What works after?
