  2. So I am going out of state for Thanksgiving to the home of a couple I do not know and have never met. I need to bring something nice for the hostess. Looking for something thoughtful/classy or chic. Maybe 40 to 50 bucks or ? Remember this is out of town, so I'm wanting to bring something non-food. These are the potential inlaws of my step-daughter, btw. I know some of yall are really good at this. Please share if you are so inclined. Thank You! Any and all ideas much appreciated! :)

Yes me too! I had this exact experience w/ lipo 15 yrs ago. I ended up wearing the compression for probably another couple months at least past when I was cleared to go without. For me I felt almost like my midsection was made of jello... like it was vulnerable or would fall out or something without its "mold" to hold it in place. It was totally bizarre and very uncomfortable....
  4. Well... I mean by your own admission you have two items left to be completed before your case can be submitted to insurance for approval. I guess I don't really get what the big issue is here. So... they had you down for 4 reqs left rather than 2? OK, fine. I am very sure that you set them straight on that issue. Check. So what's the big deal now? It seems like maybe you are just mad in general and don't like them. Which is fine, but what can you really do about it? Switch to another surgeon/practice or just deal with it. I really just doubt that long emails from you are really going to "help" them "improve their process" as much as you seem to think it might.... Just my opinion. Please don't hit me.
  5. No offense to the OP, but quite frankly that sort of attitude is a turn-off in just about ANY situation .... including those "direct reports" of yours for that matter... It's just really not helpful IMO Just my opinion, but why not try a polite and respectful approach? Can't hurt and will probably help. Good luck

  11. Good info, thanks for sharing this!
  12. From what you have written here, it kind of sounds like you have already made your mind up not to have the surgery, to be honest. If I am wrong I apologize, but maybe you should consider getting a second opinion since it seems like this surgery is not something you are really willing to do? Just my thoughts.
  13. I have heard that they have to put a date in when they submit to insurance, but that that date is/can be later revised once the approval is in.

    What Are You Reading?

Laura, yes!! I love his books. I need to re-read She's Come Undone, I read it years ago when it was on Oprah's Book Club in the 90s but I remember loving it. I most recently read "The Hour I First Believed" which I thought was just incredible too. Have you read it yet? I'm going to look for the prison book you mentioned. He also has a new hardcover release, I just had it in my hand the other day at the bookstore but instead I went with "One Summer" by Bill Bryson which is non-fiction. The new Wally Lamb is called "We are Water". Anyway, I have already said, but to answer the thread -- I am reading "One Summer: America 1927" by Bill Bryson which I am enjoying very much so far. :)

    What's The Better Insurance?

Some insurance policies do not cover WLS under any circumstances, and others will only cover certain procedures. If your employer's insurance specifically excludes WLS there is no way they will cover it. Open heart surgery is something completely different (obvi). As far as getting your own insurance outside of work, you would have to read the fine print and call and ask specifically if WLS would be covered I suppose. I will say that it is normally quite a bit more expensive to carry your own policy because employer policies are partially paid by the employer with only a small portion paid by each employee (the part taken out of your check). You also might be getting less coverage with your own policy, especially if the premiums seem low. AND... there is Obamacare to consider. Check to see if WLS is covered in your state under Obamacare. There is a spreadsheet with that information floating around somewhere. Also, don't forget about selfpay! There are some really excellent options in Mexico and within the USA. Good luck!

    Is Something Wrong?

Not to alarm you, but have you considered the emergency room? I feel like the extreme fatigue is very worrisome. I have read that heart attack symptoms in women are very different from men and that extreme tiredness can be one of them. You may be way too young for such a thing, I just felt like I should at least mention it! Take care!!

In that case, you are probably right, he is missing his eating buddy. I'm sure he'll get over it before too long. Hang in there!

    Support From Spouses

If he is overweight, I wouldn't be surprised if he changes his habits when he starts seeing your results. He will probably want to get healthier too, and may wind up wanting surgery for himself! He's def too young to be on all those medicines too. Are you invited to go along when he goes out?

    Sugar Addict

For me the only way to cut the craving and additional hunger caused by sugar is to cut it completely out. It is like tobacco if you have ever smoked. Easy to start back up again unless you abstain completely. Once it's cleared from your system the craving for it will subside. I am off sugar right now and while my body isn't asking for it, my mind still sort of wants it if that makes sense. That being said it's VERY difficult to completely cut 100% sugar since many foods and condiments contain sugar even though you wouldn't necessarily know it from the taste. Ketchup, BBQ Sauce and Jarred Spaghetti sauces come to mind. But cutting out all obvious sources of sugar still seems to work pretty well. You can also make homemade foods and sauces which makes it easy to control the content of course. Sorry if this is a little bit rambly! ETA: I found that I even had to cut out the 1/2 teaspoon of sugar from my morning coffee as well. I switched to Nectresse (or whatever it's called the one with monk fruit) and could feel the difference that same day!! Amazing....

Reading "her" post on that thread, my head started to detach from my neck. Then it nearly popped off. The statement about "Bad doctors and Bad patients" was the kicker for me. OMG
  24. I had lost 12 pounds dieting with WW for 7 months. I had to gain back 9 of those pounds to qualify. The first time I went in to the surgeon's I wasn't heavy enough yet, so they just had me call and come back in when I thought I was ready. It took about 4 weeks for me to get there. I added liquid calories to put it on. I will say that just the 9 extra pounds has made a big difference in how I feel and look (not good!). For some reason I wasn't expecting that. Good luck!
  25. Hello, I do not have an answer for you as I have not yet had the procedure, but I will say that this is a "newer" surgery as a stand-alone procedure and my understanding is that, scientifically speaking, they now have short- and medium- term data in for the sleeve (both good), and are still waiting for long term data to be published. This is according to my surgeon, anyway. I know that there is a ton of long term data out there for bypass. It seems like there are some people that choose that procedure over the sleeve mainly for that reason because it makes them feel more comfortable.
