Partial gastrectomy or removal of portions of the stomach has been around forever. The sleeve as a weight loss treatment is what is newer. There was someone who posted on here a while back who said her dad had it back in the early 70's to treat h. pylori (which they treat w/ medicine now) and was fine for the rest of his life. I am sorry I can't recall the rest of the details but may be able to find with a search.

100% covered except for 50/night hospital stay x 3 so $150 out of pocket plus copays for office visits. You are allowed to call yourself and get the info, it doesn't have to go through your Dr office.

Pannus is a medical term for an abnormal layer of fibrovascular tissue or granulation tissue. Common sites for pannus formation include over the cornea, over a joint surface (as seen in rheumatoid arthritis), or on a prosthetic heart valve. Pannus may grow in a tumor-like fashion, as in joints where it may erode articular cartilage and bone. The term pannus is often used incorrectly to refer to a panniculus (a hanging flap of tissue). Panniculus is a medical term describing a dense layer of fatty tissue growth, consisting of subcutaneous fat in the lower abdominal area.[1] It can be a result of obesity and can be mistaken for a tumor or hernia. Abdominal panniculus can be removed during abdominal panniculectomy, a type of abdominoplasty. A panniculus can also be the result of loose tissues after pregnancy or massive weight loss Sources: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panniculus and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pannus

You need to just call a weight loss surgeon in your area and set up an appointment. They will go over all of the different surgery options, pros and cons of each etc. I will go out on a limb and say that if you don't have insurance you might want to consider something other than the band due to the fact that the ongoing follow up visits would get very expensive.

Everyone's policy is different. Have you called your insurance carrier directly? They can give you an exact amount based on your specific policy. Good luck!

New here...what now?
woo woo replied to capricornsleever's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hmm I thought from your screen name maybe you were looking at the sleeve? Anyway where are you located? There are many places in the US that offer this surgery on a self pay basis for a very reasonable price as well if Mexico doesn't appeal to you. Normally when you are paying your own way (whether in US or Mex) there are not too many requirements. I think they probably want you to be at least "obese" which is a BMI of at least 30. That plus the cost of admission is about it! Some medical conditions (I know you said you don't have any) can cause a surgeon to recommend one surgery over another one for you -- but for the most part the choice of which surgery to have is left up to the patient (customer!). Good luck. -

Good luck to you! Keep us posted. -
I think you know the answer to this one... right? Make that appointment with your psychologist and get a handle on whatever is going on before it blows up into something not manageable. Rooting for ya!! :)

New here...what now?
woo woo replied to capricornsleever's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can also contact a bariatric surgeon's office directly rather than go through your PCP. Google bariatric surgery in your area, read up on the available programs and call and make an appointment. They will guide you from there. Also, read, read, read as much as you can!! Good luck :) -
Re: Zsalynn -- Just my opinion, but this seems a bit unfair. So what if he has a thing for large women? This is his WIFE, there's no excuse to mistreat her, especially when it is potentially at the expense of her health. I also fail to see what her "porn" or whatever career has to do with his shitty treatment. She's still a person. Re: Penny -- I just saw this last night for the first time so I am a little late to the party but OMG what about when they showed her husband bringing her the bedpan and then wiping her ass etc? I understand it is a caring thing to do for someone you love, however a normal person would be embarassed and humiliated to have her husband do this. She did not seem bothered at all. Penny is a sick person and I don't know if there is really any hope for her. FYI they are running episodes of this show on Discovery Health Network at this time.

That is true about cup being the difference between band and fullest point. There is also the possibility that you were wearing the wrong cup before. That's pretty common from what I understand from what I learned on one of those Oprah's Bra shows back in the day

@@Kindle had no right to make such an ugly accusation and is way out of line here. In my opinion.

Wondering if your doctor gave you a diet to follow post-op? If not I think you should call and ask for some instructions regarding eating for these first weeks after surgery.

It was for sure the sleeve. Written elsewhere in another article.

Hmm maybe try parting your lips -- just ever so slightly?

They are hinting to you that you are close and that you can get there by adding a few pounds, but they can't come out and tell you that you should gain weight in order to qualify.

Thinking about Gastric sleeve operation
woo woo replied to shamous058's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have seen docs that will operate up to age 75. As far as your BMI, are you in a position to self-pay? If so then your BMI is close enough I would imagine. A third (possible) option is clinical trials -- I know there is some research going on regarding WLS and diabetes at the Cleveland Clinic. Agree that if it was me I would definitely not let age hold me back -
I think the area is so large that it may need to be broken down a bit into more manageable drives, maybe by counties. Maybe Dallas/Collin, Tarrant/Denton or ??. Any ideas? ETA: Not that you would have to attend the group in "your" county, just that the meeting place would be convenient for those living or working in that area. Hopefully that makes sense.
