    advice please

Agree. No on the caffiene at least at first. I'm not familiar with Spark, but if it's carbonated that isn't allowed either. Oddly now that I'm off caffiene, I find I don't need it to get through the day. My energy level is great, haven't had coffee/caffiene since the day before surgery (going on 4 weeks). Follow what your docs plan says. Most people are allowed broth and cream Soups (strained and thinned), sugarfree popsicles, Protein drinks, Water, diluted 100% fruit juice (apple is good). I ate a lot of campbell's creamy tomato thinned with milk. G2, crystal light, herbal tea, what ever low or no calorie drinks you like.

    September 8 Sleeves Thread

@@nowornever14 are you okay?? Is this sleeve-related?

    What are you drinking?

I like hot herbal teas sweetened with splenda and with a tiny splash of milk. I have been drinking the Sleepytime by Celestial Seasonings. The warm liquids go down really smooth.
  5. Your stomach was just cut, including nerve endings and such. There is going to be some numbness. I would tread carefully and don't overdo it. 2 cups of egg drop soup seems like way too much at this stage, just my opinion. Just because you can doesn't mean that you should.
  6. I just started food again too yesterday. Not having this issue, but I am already three weeks out (per my doc's plan 3 weeks of full liquids). I've also been chewing everything to death.
  7. There are inexpensive self pay options available in several states in the US. In the northern and midwestern states the self pay prices are extremely high. I suggest researching Texas, Florida, Louisiana etc. There is also a popular self pay doc in Las Vegas. For example prices right now in Dallas are about 10k all inclusive, only $3500 if you have a hiatal hernia (which many of us do).
  8. Maybe call the bariatric practice and ask what all tests you should ask for, and then go and request them through your primary doctor so they are covered. I am sure the bariatric center would be happy to try and work with you if you call and explain the situation. I'm sorry this is happening!
  9. I second whoever said mix the premier chocolate shake with milk. Makes it nice and thin and improves the flavor too. Tastes like chocolate milk, plus extra protein from the milk.

    I'm SLEEVED!

Wonderful! Congrats. Now the adventure begins!

    Help from a pro?

Soups, shakes, milk, juice, crystal light or low calorie gatorade, unjury protein sample pack, chewable or dissolvable vitamins, heating pad ... just a few things off the top of my head

    doing okay but frustrated!

Last night I had cream of chicken (strained) soup, thinned with the tortilla soup base/broth. Turned out to be quite tasty. I have also been having a lot of campbell's creamy tomato soup on the go, thinned with milk, and then I add a dollop of wing sauce. Satisfies the need for flavor nicely.
  13. At 46 I would say now or never if you have your heart set on a baby. If you are on the fence about it, then do your sleeve and then investigate options. Don't rush into fertility treatments just because time is running out. Not everyone has children, and those that don't really do tend to love it (not to mention the extra money and lifestyle that is possible!)
  14. Hello all, sleeved 9/8 so now 19 days out. Just checking in. My doc is one that requires 21 days of full liquids only so I have yet to take in any solid foods at all. Moving to soft foods (no puree stage on my program) starting Tuesday on day 22. So far so good. Really can't complain. Side still indented and hurts a little but other than that no pain. I'm doing premier shakes and a little tomato Soup each day along with Vitamin supplements. Down 21 lbs. To those of you just sleeved, hang in there it gets better each and every day!!
  15. Fabulous, way to go Alex! :)

2 years out and struggling with Munchies

Are you eating a lot of carbs or sugar? Those foods can really rev up your appetite. Or are you stressed out or wanting to eat for reasons other than actual hunger?
  17. Try propping a bunch of pillows to elevate your head up and then sleeping on your back. Another option would be sleeping in a recliner if you have one.
  18. Heating pad works wonders, better than pain meds!
  19. She stated that her daughter is already scheduled for surgery in two days, so it appears that she has already chosen her doctor.
  20. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Rosie gets paid a whole lot of money to give hers on national television every day. So that's what she does. Besides, the show is called "The View" after all....
  21. You didn't say how much you are eating?
  22. I have heard of some people using a blender or food processor to chop up the tuna or chicken a bit before mixing with mayo and eating. Makes it easier to break down in the stomach or something. I have not tried this yet.

    Is this normal?

Just saw nurse practitioner today. She explained that the new stabbing/burning pain is part of the healing process and is due to blood pooling below the big incision. Anyway it's apparently normal and should last a few days. She suggested heating pad or take pain meds.
  24. Hi, Does anyone have the most recent DFW support groups calendar? I think mine might be out of date. I want to go to a meeting tomorrow but don't want to show up and find it's not happening. Thanks!
