    Soft Foods: Cheese Souffle

Wonderful! I have a quiche recipe from 20 years ago (no cream of tartar but similar ingredients, stir and bake). I leave off the crust (one of my favorites when doing Atkins) and bake in a glass pie dish. It is wonderful hot or cold. So many options for us friends, just do it!!!!

    High Protein Crab Cakes

Living in Florida, crabcakes is one of my favorite dishes to make. I have never breaded my crabcakes, never used cream, since we are always dieting. I use 1 can crabmeat, an egg to bind the cake, Old Bay Seasoning to taste. a dash of hot sauce, good squeeze of lemon juice, minced celery and bell pepper, dash of worcestershire sauce. Make cakes, and saute in small amount of olive oil til browned. I would suggest experimenting, can't go wrong with such simple ingredients!

    The Boomer Chat Room

First meal simmering in the crockpot today, Yay! A variation of a fabulous casserole I used to make. Cut up chicken breast, can of FF cream of mushroom soup, minced mushrooms, pepper, 1/4 cup white wine, and about 1.4 cup shredded lowfat swiss cheese. My husband is getting antsy for food lol. He jumped for joy when I gave him 1/2 cup turkey chili yesterday. I will roast my green Beans tossed in olive oil, sea salt and pepper, and maybe mince in the blender with some chicken broth. The taste of these simple fresh green beans is awesome. We were snacking on them prior to surgery, while watching football. Sassy, my husband had a problem in the hospital, we believe due to a catheter being poorly inserted. He was in agony following surgery, and 4 days and 4 nurses causing more problems everytime they yanked the bag out and re-inserted, was a nightmare. He went home with a cath bag on Thursday, and visited his urologist on Monday, who directed him how to remove the bag himself Tues a.m at 6:00. Easy peasey, No problem since, but lasting memories for him. He is a pretty tough guy, but not this. Note, I bought Goya canned corned beef yesterday. My husband is needing a meat fix. 2 oz, has 120 cals, 7 g fat, 15 g Protein, 460 mg sodium, 0 carbs. I am keeping him as carb free as possible because of his blood sugar, til he is stabilized a little. His blood sugars are running about 100-120 every morning, rather than 300-400. I would like help with your discoveries, as we all branch out from the shakes and Soups. I am dreaming of bread, rolls, potpies with crust - I would take bread over pecan pie lol! But I am steering clear. My taste buds are changing, has anyone experienced this? Blessings everyone!

    Pissed Off Husband

Today is the first day of the rest of your life. Believe that. Let go of the past, it only drags you down. Fantastic you found someone to talk to. You are not the cause of anything. We do not choose problems in our lives and our health, but we can conquer them all through Faith, God, and our actions. Blessings!

    Pureed food ideas

I have found that if I take a small bite of food and chew it forever and a day it works. I am talking 1/4 tsp bite at a time. My doctor said mash cottage cheese with the back of a fork. But I am eating such a small amount it is hard to puree. Same with 1 egg I scrambled this morning. Almost 1 month post op and no problem.

My surgeon is a horrible person

Good posts Sue and Amazon. Lawyering up is not something to do lightly. But a good lawyer will tell you if there is malpractice in their opinion. There is too much unknown here by us about your situation Liz. Best wishes, as you do step back and think about your role in this situation. Hugs and happiness,

My surgeon is a horrible person

Document every detail. Get your family to document what they remember. Get it together. Warning, if you sue someone and a jury finds him not guilty of malpractice, you could be liable for his lawuer fees and court costs. You mist make sure you get excellent legal advice from an experienced lawyer, not some hotshot young lawyer who gushes words to make you happy.

If I get lots of the minced okra in it I will be very happy and leave off the Beans. I have been planning my gumbo since my surgery. As little as you will be able to eat, actually I think you can have some rice. My husband is a 35 year diabetic sleeved 12/2, and he will get NO rice. his BS was averaging 350 a day and is 100-120 since surgery.
  13. I was sleeved 11/18. I found EAS Protein powder at Walmart that is not milky. My husband likes Bariatric Advantage powder because it is milky. Our favorite and popular here, is Premier Protein they sell at Sam's, or online. In the grocery they sell Torani SF syrups near the coffee. We add the flavors to shakes (Caramel, chocolate, raspberry), and Skinny Girl SF syrups that come in Gingerbread flavor, etc. I have several bottles. Walmart has them. If you need to get protein down, you can buy unjury unflavored Protein Powder online, and mix it with broth, or anything, clear or creamed Soups, but you cannot heat it to really hot as it clumps. Before surgery we added lots of ice to our shakes, which helped, and so long as you get your protein down that might help. My husband and I have come off several meds also, thank God!

My surgeon is a horrible person

Did he put you on Prilosec to prevent an abscess or ulcer? A leak test is mandatory in my opinion. Thank God I had one and if you had a leak you would not go home like you did. Did the leak cause the abscess? Hmmm. Every State has a website where you can make complaints about doctors, but I would seek legal advice before doing anything. Not one lawyer, but THREE consults and do not tell any of them about the other lawyers. Make sure you do not pick a lawyer from the phone book or Internet. Ever! We had 10 meetings with our doctor's group of nutritionist, office, support staff, schedulers, that included 20-30 other sleevers congregated each time. I probably live in a larger city than you though. Best wishes, and I am so sorry.

    Pissed Off Husband

GoldyGirl, I am 67. I was not offended by you repeating what your husband said to you in anger, and your need to seek some emotional support here from people who have a heart. I would like to say I have learned a lot in my years, and I implore you to get your backbone up and stand tall. You will beat these problems. Maybe you can seek out a counselor to talk to because you need someone to sit down and listen to you after your surgery. We all have made mistakes in our lives, no one is perfect. The New Year will come, and you will have a new lease on life, and will be able to get yourself healthy and happy. God Bless you girl, you will be fine. Don't EVER let anyone make you feel less of a woman. Find a friend to help when you can, and most importantly, pray. There is happiness ahead. Focus. Merry Christmas.

    My Journey..a real rough one

You are right, things happen for a reason. You cannot hurry your life here. You have to make sure you have the right doctor, the right hospital, and oh that blasted insurance!!!! Be patient, and good things will come to you. My husband and I began this journey 10 years ago with seminars, and finally felt confident when we found the right doctor and program, and of course the sleeve. Prayers for you, and the best of luck as you deal with this!
  17. How are you doing Andrew? My husband was sleeved Dec. 2. Other than a problem with a catheter, he has done exceptional. His weight is similar to yours, and since surgery he has now lost 15 lbs. The numbers are not what matters though, it is the fact that he wakes up with a blood sugar of 100 rather than 300, and the same at night, after being on this eating plan. Incredible for his diabetes which has been so out of control for so long. Blood pressure is great also! Best wishes to you!!!

Pre op diet over the holidays

Girls, let me say this. I love gumbo and I will be making it soon. I do my own version with the spices I love, adding everything I like. Rice will be the only thing to not add, but as a seafood/chicken gumbo, you can eat a healthy version and enjoy. I have taste tested a little taco sauce, spicy enchilada sauce on a tsp LOL, because I love spicy. I added medium taco sauce on a little refried Beans and yay, even that was good! Good luck!

    2 weeks post op

Crystal light peach tea is our favorite. Even raspberry tea. I also found SF apple cider. Most grocery stores here carry Torani SF syrups which you can add to your vanilla shakes, or anything else. There are so many ideas! I bought the Protein powder (unflavored) and even though I like HOT Soups, etc. I am adding the powder to the soups to add protein as they cool. A treat was about 1/4 cup Cream of Wheat - with a little Protein Powder added, and spray margarine, I wish you the best. Linda
  20. YOUR HEALTH IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING. SURGERY CAN WAIT IF NEED BE. TALK TO THE DOCTOR! BEST WISHES.

    2 weeks post op

Hello there! My husband is 2 weeks out, doing great. I am 4 weeks out, almost. I could have progressed to eating more (new) foods but have stayed on the same plan with him til he is a month out. I find that we are very satisfied having a shake for Breakfast, Soup or shake for lunch, soup or shake for dinner, with a little added cottage cheese, yogurts, Jello, popsicles for Snacks. Crystal light tea is our favorite drink. I have nibbled on refried Beans with a little taco sauce added, and had no problem. We know that when we start the little burps, to slow down, stop eating, because it seems to be the signal we are getting full. Honestly do not feel hungry at all. Good luck and Happy Holidays! BTW, I had a special lunch date recently, looked at the menu online, decided I could have a cup of seafood bisque, and it was like an ordinary day having lunch with a friend. So excited about that!

Pre op diet over the holidays

My husband and I both being sleeved, me Nov. 18, and him Dec. 2, we had our first Thanksgiving alone and LOL we survived. The holidays are the hardest, but missing food on one holiday is just a step in your journey. There is SF apple cider in the grocery stores. It will be worth it now to eat. Be thankful! Count your blessings!

    The Boomer Chat Room

Thanks for the kind words Sassy. I think I am figuring out it will be best to stick to our very satisfying routine of a Protein Shake in the mornings, and soup at night for awhile, with changes for lunch to include a little cottage cheese, Jello, yogurt and broth. Add in a couple popsicles a day and we are good. I too had bought a lot of Soups, and will make use of them. We are loving the cream of chicken, celery, asparagus and mushroom. When the soups cool down I am adding the Protein powders. The reason for me doing this, is that it satisfies us, and doesn't require thinking LOL. I bought a whole large cauliflower yesterday and thought whatever will I do with this when I got home. Last week I cooked cauliflower, mashed it up with a mixer, and it just did not taste very good after all that work. Besides, who wants to sit and eat cauliflower by itself unless it is raw! Thats when I decided the rest of December we will relax and do what we are doing. I have erred on the side of caution and no dumping experienced, no nausea, no sickness. Just taking it slow, telling my husband what I think and letting him decide for himself. BTW we had a little Cream of Wheat yesterday with Protein Powder, and I felt like a million dollars, eating an old food I love. Didn't even feel guilty! Sassy, do you have your microwave outside your small kitchen? That might help you have better access. Have a wonderful day everyone!!
