Starting to feel like a freak?

Misty, LOL! I am with you, we are our age and cannot change it unless you want to be sculpted expensively by a plastic surgeon, however, I will accept my age and hope for a little butt too - Look to the positives everyone!

    Am I full? Help!

I would say you should still be on liquids based on everything I know and read, at 2 weeks. Don't rush it please. Bad results when you try things too soon.. Best wishes!

    Questions about Dumping and over-eating

My husband was sleeved 12/2. He is eating like a snail LOL. But most important don't rush into new foods. Stick to what works for you and focus on the fact that you are not really hungry, it is head hunger, and eat only when hungry. Our doc said today we should be eating once a day, these stomachs are small, drink plenty of liquids and good Vitamins.

    Questions about Dumping and over-eating

Happy to post..... When did you have surgery? I had surgery 11/18 and have felt like a new woman since, I had no problem eating and drinking whatsoever!!! Well, I hit a snag 2 nights ago ready for the 5-week phase, and had some crockpot chicken with mushroom sauce. Moist and mushy. Problem, I ATE TOO FAST AND DID NOT CHEW WELL. Got a little lax. It sat in the middle of my chest, making me uncomfortable til 3 pm yesterday, when I finally decided to eat 4 bites of yogurt. The yogurt apparently got stuck on the chicken lodged some where in there. After 5 minutes of scary running around cant breathe panic call rescue mode, I felt it slide on down. I learned tonight at a meeting at the hospital this is common. So let my experience help you to eat slowly and know why you are eating slowly, and chew chew chew. My doctor said today we should be eating one meal a day and eat only when hungry. I have been overeating. Because I have been doing so well. Stay by the rules!!!!!!! Merry Christmas.....

    Any Florida Sleevers?

Pierced, Small world lol! We went to the first peer to peer group tonight, Probably 15 people. We are 66 and 67. Most people there were older than you. Some had surgery, some had not. Hardly got to know anyone there, the way it was set up. They have a www.facebook.com/stvincentsweightloss on FB I want to look at. My thought is to go to several of these meetings and see if we can get to know the people a little better and try to form a group. My husband and I have not told anyone about our surgery because we do not feel the need to share. My husband has more health issues than I do, and he is 2 weeks post op, with diabetes and fighting low blood pressure problem right now. I will friend you and lets please stay in touch. Maybe after the holidays we can come up with a plan. Best wishes everyone! Linda

    1 month post op scare

Actually I ate the less than 1/2 cup chicken/soup mixture at 6 pm Tuesday. Bedtime was 11 pm. Ate the yogurt 3pm next day, when I had the problem. At a peer to peer group meeting tonight at our Medical Center, our leader said it is very common for this to happen. I think if we are alert and forewarned we will pay attention more to how we eat and chew, if you know the consequences. No more cooking LOL we are sticking to shakes and creamed Soups, and the popsicles and yogurt, till January. Bottom line, I discovered I was eating too much today, and I am on a better path!!!!
  9. I am 1 month out today and had the scare of my life. I had about 1/2 cup or little less at 6 pm last night of crockpot cooked diced chicken in mushroom sauce. Apparently I ate too fast. At 10 pm began feeling "sick" and woke up still feeling sick. At 3 pm today cancelled our evening plans and decided to eat a little yogurt and lie down. After 3 teaspoons yogurt I had excruciating pain between my breasts and could hardly breathe, ran to my husband, could not talk, and thought I was having a heart attack. The pain was horrific. After 5 minutes of me gasping and running around, I felt a slight release of something in my chest, and assume the yogurt slid on down. Nutritionist happened to call and said I should eat 1/2 cup 6 months after surgery, not 1 month. Obviously I ate a little too fast. And did not chew as well as I usually do. That I probably have irritation and swelling and should go back on liquids. Doctor's office returned my call and agreed. I have felt so great that I wondered if I really had surgery, and found out today that I did. I have almost felt no restriction eating and got a little too comfortable. I wanted to share this with you Newbies, because you can see what could happen. One poster said she went to a restaurant with friends and ended up on the floor. Now I know why. That pain and feeling you cannot breathe will get you on the floor. Be smart my friends, be smart. Don't jump to new foods too quickly. This was my first chicken dish, and I had eaten a little bit for 3 nights and the 3rd night was not the charm! Merry Christmas all! Linda

    1 month post op scare

vsg2803, You are welcome. I don't think everything should be shared to scare people, but this was something I felt strongly should be shared. BTW, our doctor today said we should be eating once a day. Some things say eat 6 small meals a day. I was sleeved Nov.18th, my husband 12/2. I stayed on liquids to let him catch up. I had the 3 teaspoons of yogurt yesterday, 1 coffee and 1 tea today, and not even hungry. I wanted to make sure I slowed down a little. I have not been hungry one bit. I think in my mind I thought we were to try and at least 3 times a day eat a little something. We are regrouping lol. Best wishes!! Be cautious during the holidays.

    Any Florida Sleevers?

    Any Florida Sleevers?

Jacksonville here. Go Gators! Essence, my advice to you is to be positive. I feel the procedure (11/18) was 10 times easier than I expected. I spent 1 night in the hospital and had 1 dose of pain medication since I went home. I have more energy and was shopping 4 days after surgery, but being careful. One month post op, I stay out shopping 4-5 hours, when before surgery I barely would leave my house. I feel wonderful. I had a little episode this week from not chewing long enough, and eating faster than I should. I strongly caution you to follow the guidelines of your doctor and don't be adventurous, it will bite you, LOL!! Merry Christmas all, and good luck Essence!

    Pissed Off Husband

Dear Goldy, I hope your household has become calmer and that you are doing much better, Healthwise, spiritually and mentally. We would like to see an update and continue this conversation to offer you hope and support as you are going through a difficult time. MaryMc, I don't know what your story is that you are not allowed to go to Mass, but I am here to be your friend and am a strong 67 year old woman who lived that life once. I was only allowed to do what he allowed, and I was 40 years old, not some kid. I found that backbone I mentioned after 4 years of intense hell, and have been married to the love and partner from heaven for 23 years. Your journey in this weight loss will make you a new person. I would love to keep knowing and communicating with you and Goldy during this wonderful new phase of your life. Cheers to the new Goldy and Mary Mc! Merry Christmas, Linda

    The Boomer Chat Room

LOL, NEED NO PRIZE, JUST WISH WE WERE MORE INTERACTIVE HERE. I HAVE BEEN POSTING EVERYWHERE ELSE. TRAFFIC IS THE WORST. SORRY YOU WERE RESCHEDULED. WE ARE HAVING FEW PROBLEMS, JUST TRYING TO MAKE THINGS BETTER. 2 NIGHTS AGO AT 6 PM I APPARENTLY DID NOT CHEW SOME SOFT chicken (MY FIRST CROCKPOT CHUCKEN IN MUSHROOM SAUCE) CAREFULLY ENOUGH/ATE TOO FAST, AND HAD DISCOMFORT UNTIL YESTERDAY. I DECIDED I WOULD EAT A BIT OF YOGURT YESTERDAY AT 3 PM AND IT STUCK - BETWEEN MY BREASTS. I PANICKED, THE PAIN SO INTENSE, I THOUGHT I WAS HAVING A HEART ATTACK. ALMOST TOLD MONTY TO CALL 911 BUT I COULD NOT SPEAK AND COULD HARDLY BREATHE. AFTER 5 MINUTES, A LIFETIME, I FELT IT MOVE DOWN. AND THE PANIC WAS OVER. SOMETIMES I FEEL AS IF I AM SO GREAT I FEEL THEY PRETENDED TO DO SURGERY ON ME. I FOUND OUT YESTERDAY THAT I DID HAVE SURGERY. I AM BACK TO Clear Liquids. NOW I KNOW WHY MY DOCTOR STRESSES CHEW CHEW CHEW! LESSON LEARNED. I SOMETIMES FEEL WE HAVE MADE SO MANY EXCUSES TO GOOD FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS WHEN THEY ASK US TO GO OUT OR COME OVER, ESPECIALLY THESE HOLIDAYS, THEY MUST THINK WE ARE CRAZY. ANYONE ELSE FEELING THIS? I AM SO THANKFUL THE SURGERY IS BEHIND US BUT I THINK IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EASIER TO COPE WITH PEOPLE IF WE HAD SURGERY AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. BTW WE ARE NOT THAT SOCIAL..... BUT WE HAVE BEEN AVOIDING EVERYONE SINCE THE FIRST OF NOVEMBER SINCE MY SURGERY WAS NOV. 18. CHRISTMAS IS NEAR, ANYONE HAVE BIG PLANS? LINDA

    Left shoulder pain

Surgery November 18, and I had pain in the left shoulder. No pain meds since I came home. Today I had an episode after I ate and swallowed too quickly and I know that it is associated with the episode I had, not any leak. It is just an ache in the shoulder. Strange but not worrying me. Best wishes.

    1 month post op scare

My husband and I both had hernias, very common, but hardly any pain. No pain meds once we were home, 1 day after surgery. I am assuming you are in contact with your doctor about the vomiting???????? Best wishes and get better soon.

    1 month post op scare

We are told to crockpot the chicken til super tender, which I did, with the cream of mushroom Soup, it must be moist. I thought I could smush the chicken and chew very well rather than puree. I will regroup. Take care!

    starting soft foods tomorrow help

I have used unflavored Protein powder and added it to enchilada sauce and clear mild taco sauce and put it on the refried Beans. Very good. You can make a lowfat chili with refried beans, a little ground cooked turkey, and other ingredients. I made cream of wheat once and added Protein Powder. I am trying to experience different things. Soups are so good in cold weather that is has been my go to meal. Good luck!

Best wishes. Everything was 10 times easier than I expected. I have shopped, had more fun, and laughed more since surgery 1 month ago than I have in so long...... This is so worth it. Follow your plan, just follow your plan, and don't stray from it, is my best advice! Wonderful Christmas present! Linda

  24. 1. Hospice used to take a person for respite care a few days. 2. I am 67, I had surgery 11/18. Home the next day. I had 1 dose of pain med at home and none since. I rested 2 days, I think I thought I was supposed to feel bad. Within 3 days I was at the grocery store and have not slowed down since, shopping 3-4 hours at a time. I have double the energy I had, and a happy disposition again. If you have someone to help a bit you should handle this easily. Caution, we are all so different. Nothing makes me sick. I stayed on the lighter diet an extra 2 weeks with my husband who was sleeved 12 /2 and hospitalized 4 days. He had a catheter problem. I was at the hospital every day, walking about 1/2 mile to get to his room from parking. Best wishes! Life is sooooo much better!
