    Readmitted yesterday :(

Tonya, we all do the best we can, just like we do in life before surgery. This is our journey, and we are living it day by day, some good, some bad. But most importantly, this road leads to a healthier life for each of us. We hear of gallbladder attacks, dumping, vomiting, dehydration, etc. Number one is to take care of yourself by eating healthy and taking the Vitamins, and we will weather the storms together here! Happy New Year and I am thankful you are home and getting better! Counting our blessings, Linda

    Vitamins?

I bought all the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins and dislike the large chewable chalky multivitamin. I found an excellent liquid multivitamin and compared it to BA multivitamin, and this has more Vitamin content than BA. It is called Nature's Plus Source of Life Gold Liquid. I go to a Compound Pharmacy where I live (they make different compounds). The Pharmacist is very knowledgeable and said I need nothing but this. However, I still take the chewable Iron, Vitamin D and the B-12 shot. I looked online and this liquid multivitamin is available online.

Wow! That is so awesome. I know you are proud of yourself. Proud for you. I have totally read everything I could find online, on Facebook, and by chatting with others. There are good friends here, who will gice you a lot of support on your journey. I think this is important for all of us, because we do not always get that from people close to us. You will see that by the posts made here. Good luck to you.
  4. Best wishes. I firmly believe we have to be keepers of our own bodies, and research and research more!!! Push the doctors, do not let them brush you off when you know something is wrong!!

    Fried food

I won't risk it. Went through too much to go back to that kind of eating. Too many people here say they have gained weight. This is why. Resolve to eat healthier!! Happy New Year!

Hello there. I am rather new here also, had sleeve 11/18, but started researching on the site in October. There are a couple private Facebook groups, and if you just search on Facebook you will find them and reqeust to join. Knowledge is certainly power in this journey. On this site, just keep looking and reading. There are groups such as "December sleevers". Just check it all out. If you have a question, just post it in topics and you will get a lot of support and answers. Always remember when in doubt, call the doctor, don't risk seeking medical advice here. There will be others who respond to this, and you can friend the ones you thing you might want to get to know better. Also, you can post a topic such as "any Miami sleevers? and put your city in the post, and you will find people who live near you, to friend. Your doctor's office might be able to refer you to support groups in your area. Happy New Year! Would love to hear more about your journey. Linda

Top Secret: Who did you tell?

It is amazing how other people can have such an impact on our lives. My husband and I were sleeved. He made the decision to tell no one. I have told my daughter and 1 dear friend, a nurse. I would rather be open about it, but respect his wishes. At my age, 67, I no longer have friends who are judgmental, or family. My life is too short for that nonsense. One thing, I am sure the people some of you have told have told others. Nature of the universe lol. But who cares, it is your life. Treasure it and guard it from negative people. Just distance yourself. Blessings to you!!
  9. You will not need help. You will be okay. I think we are expecting the worst but honestly I took 1 dose of pain med at home. I rested a couple days then went shopping. I am 67. I have shopped ever since, feeling great, and not going through any fast food drive throughs either!!! The surgery date will be here before you know it. Busy yourself getting your Vitamins, getting your shakes and Soups stocked, the broth, etc. Merry Christmas!

How long were you sore after surgery?

I 1 month you won't feel like you have had surgery! Except be cautious, no lifting (I did, uggg) and of course watch your intake!
  11. What I hear about sugar will keep me from sampling. Thank you all for the posts!

    The Pre-Op Crazies

Being in our mid sixties, and having dieted all our lives, my husband and I decided to do the sleeve as our health worsened, keeping us chained to our comfy chairs instead of having fun and living. We both have diabetes, I have asthma and a knee replacement so walking is hard, we both have high blood pressure, and he has a heart stent for a heart blockage, neuropathy, can hardly walk due to prior back surgery, and sleep apnea - using oxygen. I share this with you because if you remain overweight, this is what you face as you get older, which will definitely shorten your lifespan. Ten years ago when we began the gastric seminars, if they had had the sleeve, we would have opted for it and been healthier today. I hope that you think of these things as you make the final decisions as to whether or not to have surgery. Best of luck!

    Liquid vitamins post-op?

I opted to buy Source of Life Gold Liquid that a Pharmacist friend in a Compound Pharmacy highly recommended. You can also get it online, free shipping, at a range of prices. I cannot tolerate the chalky Bariatric Advantage multivitamins I bought, and I am willing to pay the price of good Vitamins because I want the best health I can get following this surgery. Thank goodness we have a lot of options.
  14. I think this is amazing. Three weeks after the sleeve, I realized my terrible foot pain was gone, with about a 25-lb. weight loss. Two years ago this pain began in my feet, and at first I thought it was arthritis in my feet, buying expensive foot creams that did not work. I just suffered at night. Finally saw an ad on tv about Lyrica and neuropathy, and my doctor prescribed it. After a month I had several blistering ugly reactions on my toes, and had to come off the med. Then 3 months ago I was prescribed Metformin for diabetes. Now I am off Metformin, hope I never have to take insulin (my husband has had diabetes 35 years), and no neuropathy. I am one happy woman. I can shop again (everyday for a few hours) knowing I won't be in agony at night.

    Neuropathy - foot pain gone!

Thanks, and to you! I am really happy about this! Hoping it helps you, God Bless!
  16. I had the sleeve 11/18 and my husband 12/2. You are a Mom and that brings different stresses for you, trying to take care of your children and home, and God only knows what else. We are 66 and 67 years old, and I have been shopping and walking for three weeks with great energy, where I was depressed and couch sitting for this past year, being fat and miserable. Trust me, by next week you are going to feel much better. Mentally and physically. I think the fear of the unknown following this surgery scares us. There are so many positive posts here, and answers for almost everything, and good friends to make. Have a wonderful Christmas, and if you need a pickme up just add me as a friend and tell me! Heres a hug......

    Irritable Bowel Syndrome Pre-surgery

I would give up the sugar! I have had long term diverticulitis and irritable bowel syndrome. I am doing great a little over 1 month post op, and 3 months pre-op diet. My husband is diabetic and I was on metformin for diabetes, so we eat no sugar. You may have a problem with gas after your surgery, which causes pain. But the dumping and problems you can have from carbs, sugar and fried foods after surgery will cause you to steer clear from these foods. You may get by with a taste or two at times but I think there is always a risk. At a peer to peer meeting this week a lady described a terrible scenario after eating pineapple. Personally I don't want to experience this so I will leave the fruit alone. You and I have a long way to go and a lot to learn during this journey, and we have to do our best to follow the guidelines we are given. I have had no stomach problems following surgery, and I am focusing on eating healthy with Protein and Fiber (which is recommended for our stomachs), and hope to stay this way. All of us experience a problem with food at times in our life, and your stomach wasn't rejecting the cake. I guess it didn't want it. I also decided I will not go back on Diet Coke, after 4 months I know I do not need it and can live without it. Saving me some money! You will survive this with a new healthier YOU! Good luck!
  19. You have had your surgery? Or pre-op? I cannot tell. Either way, Your Mom was probably trying to be helpful because you have children to feed. You may be understandably a little stressed, so take deep breaths and focus on YOU and what is best for you. You are going to be faced with food and the smells the rest of your life and if you have a good grip on your willpower, you will be more successful in your journey. She may not have known you had food in the house for the kids. Relax and regroup, rest, and have a Merry Christmas!!!

    Starting The Liquid Diet

The SF Torani syrups are awesome (at the grocery near the coffees). You can also add a sprinkle of SF pudding, Jello, Crystal Light to your shakes. Be adventurous! Good luck!
