Sleeve surgery 1/15/14
LindafromFlorida replied to jtanevismom06's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We had pages and pages of food rules and information. I took a monthly calendar and wrote it up with the dates for certain food changes before and after surgery. You will read every diet requirement here by different doctors for their patients. No oatmeal by ours until after surgery. I would call your nutritionist or doctors office for quick help if you are in a crisis right now and not sure, or just drink liquids until you are sure and can read your information. -

Wanna Rant About Spouses & How Clueless They Can be sometimes?
LindafromFlorida replied to HotButterFly's topic in Rants & Raves
Think about your health issues and why you are doing this surgery. If you already have issues, think how much worse they will be in 5-10 years. I wish I had not waited until I was on 3 blood pressure medicines, 1 cholesterol medicine, Metformin, 2 asthma inhalers, and a knee replacement. Your body is your temple, no one elses! Cheers to NEW LIFE! -
I feel like a prisoner in my own home *sensitive*
LindafromFlorida replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Hello Ree, I was thinking as I read your post that you have a little child that could end up just like you. She needs to be social with other children. I hope that can motivate you to start with finding her a playmate or social interaction with other small children. Through our children we make relationships and friendships all our lives. It must be really hard to be in an isolated area like you are. I would urge you to consider joining a church. Members are usually more than eager to pick up visitors near them, and that would give your child an outlet also. You can call any church and explain your situation, not driving. I agree, ask your husband to read what you wrote, and just think about it, no discussion immediately. Let him digest it, then talk. I learned many years ago from an expert to say, "This is how I feel"... and walk away. food for thought. I think the longer you stay alone with no social interaction, the worse your social anxiety will become, and I hope you can figure out how to change that. Don't settle for that please. I have learned when my husband cannot walk due to health problems, he is always kind enough to drive me to a store, take a book and a coffee, and relax and read while I walk a little and look around. Or you can have him drive you and your child to a park and let her play with other children. Maybe you can try that for a beginning. You need to get off that sofa and get the laptop off on a regular basis, and move the body LOL!!! Also, do some little workout fun with your daughter, if nothing but walking around the house once a day, or using cans of tomato Soup to move your arms around. Make it fun, put on some music and move the feet. I have asthma also, neuropathy, knee replacement, diabetes, high blood pressure, and my husband is worse, but my spirit is lifted going on a store , making it a point to smile at people, say hello, rather than hiding behind my sunglasses in Florida because I was too miserable with myself 40 lbs ago to even smile. There is help, hope and happiness. Please look for it, and my best to you! -
Have I decided on the right surgery for me?
LindafromFlorida replied to kmiller13137's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Best of luck! Keep reading and learning. Ten years of research brought us to sleeving but we do not have your issues. We have every other issue you can imagine. -
Best wishes Tam! It will be worth it. I am sure you will get better each day, but always remember, call the Doctor when in doubt. Every one has a different experience with these surgeries. Hang in there. sleep, rest, walk, drink. Baby yourself!

Please Help me. Food addiction. Binge eater. I probably should not have had surgery
LindafromFlorida replied to toocheeky's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Also, I just saw you are in Australia. We are fortunate enough to be in the US and have excellent access to medical treatment and can pick and choose another doctor if we don't get the right one the first time. With serious health issues involving weight, I could have been like you and trusted some doctor who could have convinced me to have this surgery without being prepared for it. Ten years of research here led me and my husband to the sleeving. I now understand your post a little better and wanted to reply again. Prayers, solutions and well wishes! Keep the faith. Don't let anyone get you down! -

Just checked my Insurance's January 2014 policy for Bariatric Surgery
LindafromFlorida replied to islandgal65's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was done 11/18 and best thing ever! My husband and I went to seminars for 10 years looking at everything, but would not do the other options. Very glad we had the sleeve. Wish we could have had it in our 50s, no mid 60s! Good luck!!!! -

What they didnt tell me.......
LindafromFlorida replied to brian gogurn's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Dear Brian, I am so sorry to hear of your problems. My husband has been overweight since he was a baby. For 10 years my husband and I attended seminars, studying, reading, contemplating. We waited until the sleeve because he was terrified of the consequences of this major surgery, and I sure didn't push him. He still had that look of terror at our last pre-op visit, and the doctor said you should be scared. You have morbid obesity. Anything can happen. Please try to find the positives and seek advice. There are false teeth worn by many. We all suffer the bowel problems, either diarrhea or constipation, my husband still has sleep apnea post surgery, his blood sugar is stable (like yours as you say) at 110-120 after many years of it averaging 300-400 morning and night, and many ER trips unconscious by Rescue with 40 blood sugars at 3 am. At 66, he is alive, and doing good, 1 month post op. I am going to pray for you, and as for your mental health, please find someone to talk to and help you with this. When you get that help, I believe you can emotionally and confidently deal with the other problems. I will deal with any problems so long as my husband is living, and I know you have loved ones who feel the same about you. God's Grace, and my best to you. I was sleeved also, and no longer on Metformin, and breathing better with my asthma. -
Protein Shake Pre Op Diet
LindafromFlorida replied to Photo925's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Bawaji, this surgery comes with a medically supervised diet and you should not be guessing what to eat. I have learned that many of us have different doctors and meal requirements here, and if you are having a doctor do surgery on you, you MUST get guidance from him or find another doctor? Three weeks after surgery I tried to chew a small piece of chicken with rough consequences. You have to know what to do in these situations, so you have to be able to call your doctor for help. What is the situation with your surgeon? -

3rd day after surgery
LindafromFlorida replied to donaboss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
One thing I have learned here in 3 months is not to buy in bulk. LOL. I choke on the Vitamin Water and Propel and I have 23 sitting here. I have another 24 bottle of something orange I cannot drink, I have unjury Soup (lots) because I love soup, just not lukewarm like it has to be or it clumps. I bought the Bariatric Advantage Vitamins, too chalky for me. I take the liquid and give the others to my husband who doesn't care. I know they are good but now I can be more selective and not running scared to make sure the house is in order. From now on I will be more patient and not try to stock up, and try maybe 2 of something before buying more. I am thankful for the sharing. Crystal Light is our go-to because you can drink it and also flavor shakes with the powder. Love the Crystal Light Peach Tea. -
Protein Shake Pre Op Diet

You are under gastric sleeve section. You will not be able to eat veggies or chicken/meats right away, maybe pureed 3-4 weeks out. Keep posting, there is help here. Best of luck! -
Does anyone regret this surgery?
LindafromFlorida replied to Wenniegirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My daughter cried when she came home Christmas Eve. I am 40 lbs. lighter since I saw her last. She said I am smiling and happy again, not waiting to die and being unhappy all the time, and worrying my husband was going to die. We have plans already since sleeving. Dear God, thank you for this surgery. I really appreciate this site, helping and being helped, and making friendships along the way. -

Gas or Muscle Spasms
LindafromFlorida replied to buddy567's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I sort of feel at times since surgery something is sitting on my breastbone when I know nothing is there. I had small bouts of "gas" shoulder pain, very similar to the feeling around the breastbone. When in doubt, call your doctor! They are paid good money!!!! Best wishes. Happy New Year! -
3rd day after surgery
LindafromFlorida replied to donaboss's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry you are having this problem and at the hospital! But it will get better. Funny how some have these problems and some do not. If you are keeping Water and tea down you should be getting better. Take it easy and just keep sipping and sipping and laugh at how we used to guzzle down everything LOL! I am with you, no gossip about my health being shared with the masses. Our nosy neighbor has been hounding my husband for a year to get surgery. We told no one except daughter and a nurse friend. You and I both hope to be 140 in the summer!!! Get better! Happy New Year!!!
