    My surgery is tomorrow OMG

Warning Dona and anyone else......., my husband has more health problems than me and as his blood pressure has gone down and his meds adjusted, he has had problems with lightheadedness. He was feeling lightheaded 2 weeks post surgery but got in the shower anyway and passed out cold. Big shower, but he fell and there are six cracked tiles where he sent the shower chair (he was not sitting), through them, blackened his cheek and face hitting something, and has a long scraped bleeding arm from hitting one of the glass doors with a metal bottom. My advice is do not get in the shower feeling lightheaded!!!!!! If you hit your head it could be a catastrophe!
  2. DebbieRenee, I never felt shaky at all after 2 days postop. I am sure it is the stomach bug doing that to you. That will pass. I used to feel like I had to have something to eat all the time to fill the churning stomach hunger. Now I go hours without thinking of food, and that need to eat constantly feeling is gone. You will feel so strong so fast (as you recover from the bug). My husband was sleeved too, 4 weeks ago. Being a terrible diabetic, we are used to his shakiness and needing quick fixes. I am constantly asking him (habit) are you okay, you need something. He can now leave the house 2 hours like he did this morning without food. He ate a boiled egg about 10:30 a.m. and isn't shaky or craving food either. Absolutely amazing! Sorry about that darn stomach bug! Get better soon and rest! I enjoy reading the posts everyone!

    My surgery is tomorrow OMG

Dona, keep posting your concerns because there are so many people here who have had the same thing and can reassure you. Extreme pain, swelling, vomiting, fevers are some of the things to be concerned about. You are sounding great!

Yes, bruising is normal, mine were brown and then yellowish as the healed, and now barely visible. Smile now!

    My surgery is tomorrow OMG

I like that, nothing tastes as good as skinny, not that I would know in my lifetime yet lol! Dona, I felt like my doctor made my sleeve too large lol or forgot to sleeve me also so I know that feeling. But a few bites of chicken breast eaten too quickly or not chewed sufficiently let me know he definitely sleeved me lol! I can drink without restriction, and drink Water all day. Avoiding juices, even diluted. Have you tried Crystal Light? They make so many wonderful flavors, Mango, etc. I got the puddings too but found after a small pack, it did not interest me. Even my diabetic husband, who had his sugar free pudding religiously, keeps avoiding what I made him LOL. That is great because his blood sugar readings are 110, not 300-400. Halleujah! What I enjoy most is something like cottage cheese, even for dinner. I think going to work can help you get your mind off food. I just retired, and I am stuck in a chair with my foot propped up with gout in my toe, and can barely walk. So this laptop is entertaining me, at least it keeps my mind occupied. I cannot wait to start walking again. It has been a week now. But I am HAPPY! All that matters. Have a wonderful day everyone.

    Sleeve Anxiety

Let's face it friends, we all all worried about these things, and rightly so, it is surgery. But most everyone comes out great with no leaks! Be positive, these doctors do a great job and are sleeving daily. Best wishes, you will do great!
  8. Try Proteins as recommended! I was loving my first taste of refried Beans with a bit of mild salsa. Also, we were given a recipe for Soup where you added in a can of FF refried beans, and I modified it to my taste. Started with low sodium chicken broth. I have not gone to the veggies yet, at 7 weeks post op, just sticking to proteins. My next project will be canned chicken breast with FF mushroom soup, and seasonings. I did the crock pot chicken a little too soon I think, so I am relaxing now and taking it easy.

    My surgery is tomorrow OMG

Glad no pain for you Dona. Every day is better. Food will come soon enough. Almost 7 weeks out and finally I do not have to read a list to see what I can have. My daughter is in New Orleans right now and I am thinking of what she is eating LOL. I think we will be missing some foods the rest of our lives, but look where that got us, loving those foods. Fat, sluggish, feeling awful, could barely walk, miserable, depressed. That was me.

    alcoholic beverages

I have considered it, like New Year's, but since the scale is stuck I am not sabotaging myself for sure! I am on a mission, just 6 weeks out, but wine would be good.

should i start getting stuff now.

I bought a cheap monthly calendar and wrote dr. visits, appointments, recorded my weight and my husbands weight weekly, and noted the pre-op dates for certain food changes then post op dates for all the same. It kept me straight, especially the two of us having the sleeve 2 weeks apart. Also, thinking I would be bedridden after surgery, I bought too much. I was at the grocery store 4 days after getting out of the hospital, walking slow though. Luckily all the powders have shelf life. But I spent a whole lot of time in the grocery store reading labels. I had a big crockpot but found a smaller one at Walmart which was about $12 which will hold about 5 boneless chicken breasts, fat free mushroom Soup, etc. I love it. One thing I have enjoyed is fat free refried Beans since I love anything mexican. It was like eating real food when I got to the mushy stage. The Laughing Cow small cheeses are great melted on the beans for a light dinner. Crystal Light is wonderful, in every flavor. You can make the peach or raspberry teas, mango, etc., and you can also sprinkle the powders in your shakes. We all love to tell people about the Torani sugar free syrups in the coffee sections, or at World Market, or on Amazon.com.

should i start getting stuff now.

I packed and unpacked for one month lol. Got liquid gold Vitamin from a compound pharmacy. Packed and bought for me and my husband 2 weeks apart. Time seems to go slow but it will be here so fast! You can order Vitamins, Protein bars and shakes online to your front door. I bought Bariatric Advantage Protein powder at the doctors and EAS protein powder (and EAS protein drinks) at Walmart. We were told not to buy any that had "blend" under the ingredients. There was a lot of label reading which takes time. Bariatric Advantage has chewable vitamins which are chalky so my husband got those. Some pills are crushable so we bought that. Also a pill cutter my husband uses. Everyone has different issues so lots of variables here. Best of luck! You might save the shake and broths for evening when you are so hungry, and do not forget the SF popsicles for snacking. You won't need much in the hospital. A robe to walk in for sure over that sexy gown. I took a book but was sleeping and resting mostly, then walking.

    Second thoughts

so sleeve happy, me and my husband, 4 and 6 weeks post op. Ten years of research then the sleeve came along. Thank God. Too bad the health went further downhill until we waited for a procedure we felt comfortable but we will take it anyway we can! Best wishes, keep reading! Then decide!
  15. I grew up in an area like you describe, in the country, loving the chickens, horses and farm animals that surrounded all my relatives. We had so many relatives it was always a party, big country dinners outside, kids in the watermelon fields, always activity. We make memories all our lives. We are so blessed. Ree and Butterfly, you have a lot in common. Too bad we cannot have a social quilting party I always wanted to be part of LOL! And losing weight in the process~!
  16. Thanks for replying Ree, you can make and keep friendships on this site, and do the best you can. That is all any of us can do in life. Losing weight will give you more confidence and you have a goal now, and that is to become mobile and get back to driving. Times are hard and I am sure you and your husband sacrifice for you to be able to stay at home with your baby girl. I am going to friend you and I hope you stay in touch and keep reaching out. Keep that little girl happy and having fun! Along with her Mommy!
  17. There you go! Now you have a month to prepare and read, read, read! I bought a special little calendar and kept notes of the dates, recorded my weights, meal changes pre op and post op. Very helpful keeping things organized and helping me remember! Good luck!

    Feeling Discouraged :(

I am a little over 6 weeks out. I decided I was going to cook a crockpot meal and start experimenting with recipes, so made a healthy chicken dish. I ate too much, too fast and it was awful. Since my husband was also sleeved, I decided to stick with the basics awhile , and now we have an egg or shake for Breakfast, maybe 1/2 a Protein bar for lunch, and light Soup or refried Beans with Laughing Cow White Cheddar cheese (melted, and yum) for dinner. This is working for us, and I just do not wanted to be tempted with extra foods in the house like there was at Christmas. I know a lot of you have children and families to feed and it must make it so hard. I am getting ready to incorporate some good steamed veggies into our diet. It is just nice not to be cooking and worrying about meals right now. I am thinking you might want to go back to basics for a week or so and see how you do. Good luck!!!

    lowest prices?

I am lucky in that my husband was sleeved too, and he loves what I do not like LOL. I hate milk and milky tasting shakes and pills.

    Sleeve surgery 1/15/14

I have read about people cheating with every type of food prior to surgery. I felt like I was cheating even following the guidelines. Our doctor laughed and shared to the group that he found part of a hamburger in someone he sleeved. Maybe he was joking. Anyway, you are not going to be in troble if you are trapped in a snowstorm and have a bite or two of oatmeal or whatever you can find LOL!!

    Protein Shake Pre Op Diet

I went first, he went 2 weeks later. Didn't know about the hernia until after surgery. Never had heartburn. No acidity until recently for 1 day, and it passed. I had absolutely no nausea. Ever. It has been awesome. So many people have different problems, that I know we are blessed. We are 66 and 67 years old and feel like the weight of the world is off our shoulders with this surgery.
  22. Patience Super! Everyone gets backed up at the holidays and the machinery will get back in motion quickly. Use this time to keep reading and learning. Keep busy. It is a process, setting up an operating room, scheduling anesthetists, getting the admission to the hospital, getting the doctor scheduled, and so forth. You may have to have some final x-rays or blood tests, so everything has to fall into place. We also had to go to the hospital a week before surgery for pre-screening with an EKG. It will be here before you know it, so be getting your ducks in a row! Happy New Year and good luck!
  23. My main incision is in my navel. Six weeks post op no scars are even visible. They were tiny anyway LOL! Just for your info~

    Bypass vs sleeve

10 years of research and seminars = the sleeve. My husband and I both diabetic, I am off Metformin and his 300-400 daily blood sugars are now 110, morning and night thank God! Praise the sleeve. Loving life.
