    When can I eat bread?

Until you eat it you may not know. We are all different and react differently to foods. I had a problem with a small piece of chicken. I do not want that feeling again. Did your doctor give you guidelines?

    Avmed

Different from you, in that I did not pursue it. I gained 30 lbs. from meds a year ago, which put me to 230, then my BP, diabetes, knee replacement and asthma all were working against me. I retired, was eligible for Medicare, and had the sleeve. Avmed is still my secondary insurance and will not pay. Just thanking God I was able to have the surgery. Best wishes to you for pursuing this for yourself!

    Does anyone use centrum chewables?

I use a liquid vitamin from the health food store as I hate the chalky taste of chewables.

    When can I eat bread?

Bread has been my downfall. I have resolved to not waste my efforts trying to get back on bread/biscuits/homemade dumplings/pasta/crackers/pizza. Much less stress since I won't have it in my house to be tempted. There are so many options.

    I'm the spouse

My husband and I recently both had the sleeve, and we attended many pre-op and post-op meetings, peer to peer, nutritionist, and doctors appointments together, and encountered many couples, both not having surgery. Were you not allowed to be there? I too have been caretaker, and until 2013 would have not qualified for the surgery. My health declined with HBP, asthma, and diabetes. I really am thankful I could do this with my husband so that I know how to better care for him. I was the one who was conscious and calling rescue during his 3 am low blood sugars, and he had not a clue other than waking at the ER. I know that I drive him crazy with my worry, but he is a good natured sport. And my life. He was scared of the surgery, and wanted me to go first LOL, so I did. Loved it, no problems. He has worse health problems, so it was harder and more dangerous for him. So this kind of history gives me special license to watch him like a hawk, wag my finger at him, peek over his plate to see what he is eating, and keep him as healthy as I can. Swampyspouse, read and learn everything you can and be supportive and know what is going on with this surgery and the diet phases. If you calendar his appointments, remind him of phases where he has a change in foods, and help him to have the right Proteins, Vitamins, shakes, foods, and equipment ready, he will love you forever for being supportive. Trust me, he is a little scared just like me and my husband were, of the unknown! Best of luck! Laugh often!

Wanna Rant About Spouses & How Clueless They Can be sometimes?

Misty, you need a confidant/counselor who can work through the many issues with you. I challenge you to not go through this weight loss surgery in a year until you work through this with your husband. I could say so many sweet kind words to you, things that would help you feel better, but probably would be criticized by someone. But I am a Mother, Grandmother, and I have been at a place in my life like you. No one could help me then, I had to do it myself. I made wrong choices and I paid the consequences. With six blessed babies with your husband, he deserves the opportunity to be in counseling with you. Please look at working on what is wrong in your marriage before you try to change your personal appearance. You can try to eat healthier and be happier in this year to come, but your husband is scared and acting out, and for good reason. If he is not out there job hunting then shame on him. Please stay with us and look toward changing the dynamics of your family situation, with professional help. God Bless.

    Your favorite PROTEIN BARS?

It takes me 2 days to eat one bar, 1/2 for lunch one day, 1/2 for Breakfast the next, but especially handy when me and my husband leave the house. Just in case. We were both sleeved so sharing one helps. They do not go to waste.

    One Week To Go!

Hello Janice! Sounds lime you are on the right path here. I am 67, older than you, and was sleeved 7 weeks ago, my husband about 5. Health problems also led us to the sleeve. I started Metformin about 4 months ago and did not return to it after surgery thank God. My husband has been diabetic over 30 years with terrible consequences, and he is on a minimum amount of insulin now that he is off the roller coaster of blood sugars ranging 40 to 400. It has been a scary and horrible lifestyle that kept me scared to death. He no longer needs the carbs and fruits to get him through the night. I was having terrible neuropathy in my feet, and 3 weeks after surgery, and 30 lbs. lost in 3 months, I no longer have foot pain. I could barely shop or do any walking and that has really changed. I agree with you about the MOVING part! I am so excited to be changing my lifestyle and getting up and out of the house this year. Last year my husband and I barely left home. I do not know a lot about Parkinsons, but I know you will be healthier and happier all over when you have the surgery, and it should also help with the disc problem. My best to you, Linda

    What to bring?

Just realized you are going to Mexico! I need to read your page before posting. Lesson learned. Sounds like you are getting good information! Good luck!

    What to bring?

Went in on Monday and home tuesday afternoon. No extra clothes, wore the same baggy things there that I wore home. Loose around the middle (my husband wore sweatpants that loosened). Because you will have soreness after surgery. Might want a light robe to cover your behind when they make you walk down the hall (LOL) after surgery, and some slippers. Didn't touch my book or phone. But I had things like you, that I read on here. Just pulled them along in the rolling bag LOL. My husband had a problem with the catheter due to a prostate problem, and had to stay 3 nights, but he didn't need much extras either as it is easier to stay in the hospital gown. Best of luck!!

    The Boomer Chat Room

Hi everyone, doing great down here, just a few ups and downs. I am sidelined with gout in my big toe so I am really mad I cannot get up and move!!! But I did have a wonderful Christmas with my daughter and son-in-law visiting! Even went shopping with her and made her day LOL! Something I always could not do is walk with my feet swelling and pain. I can do nothing but sit here and try to reach out to others who have questions since I have to stay busy doing something. I am way antsy. Also, when I read others' posts I keep learning myself. I haven't cooked any meals except the one chicken meal in the crockpot where I ate a little too much too fast. My husband eats when and what he wants and so do I. Thank goodness for the microwave, refried Beans, a piece of Laughing Cow cheese topping for the beans, FF Soups, cottage cheese, yogurt, and Protein Shakes in the fridge. Life is so simple. I am enjoying the warmth of home because when this Florida sunshines comes back around March I am ready to go! Happy New Year everyone. Linda
