THE TRUTH ABOUT BOOMERS

Looking at my post above I tried correcting the words that separated in the middle as I was typing, and what a mess I made. Lesson learned.

    THE TRUTH ABOUT BOOMERS

Good post Sassy. Hello everyone. My husband woke me early this morning coming home from another sleep study night. Looks like the pulmonary doctor is having him toe the line and I love it, he thinks he is his own doctor. The sleeve process has made him jump through hoops thank God. I got reinforcements which I needed.

I became pretty vocal in welcoming newbies that have posted, and I am trying harder to
throw in Baby Boomers here Sassy, to welcome them here. Seems there are a lot of people
over 60 having surgery. Maybe we are all too busy in our lives to post more? I for onehardly have a life LOL as my husband can hardly miss his afternoon nap. I think a lot of it is depression. Just the way it is when you can hardly walk. So I spend a lot of
time reading and posting.

Lets definitely try and attract new participants.

BTW Sassy, my sister once said before she passed away, "We are all addicted to something, food, alcohol, medicines, drugs........". I agree. I grew up in a long line of
alcoholics. I was bored and drank every night before surgery, felt I could not relax
without it, and am proud to know I
could quit and not have a desire for it since I started my WLS. Have a good day
everyone!
eating healthier

Pretty much 2 months out and not measuring anything. We just stick to proteins and the basics, no carbs or sugar if at all! My husband has terrible diabetes but his blood suga has stabilized at 110 daily (not 40 or 400). We keep no bread, snacks, fruits or sugar in our home, and funny thing, we don't even care for the SF pudding and Jello anymore. This is working for us! Best of luck!

Looking for questions to ask my Surgeon

Which surgery are you having? Different questions for each! Our surgeon provided us with notebooks of instructions, guidelines, foods, stages, etc. I hope you get that from your surgeon!

    hi all :)

I am sure you will find lots, but the advice here is invaluable. So many sweet experts who have gone through this surgery and can answer any question. The Facebook pages I have visited are social and I find nothing there, so honestly this is it, the greatest help to us all. Best wishes!

  13. Jdub I also feel like I am eating all day. Guess I need to stop, regroup and write down everything. Good luck!
  14. Hello there Brant. There are many of us here who have different stories and reasons why we have chosen our particular surgeries. My husband and I were both sleeved, me in November and he on December 2. We also wish we could have had this surgery a long time ago, but my husband looks at a boat for 5 years before he buys, it just took him 10 years to trust the sleeve. Actually 10 years included reaching Medicare age and finding our Medicare would cover the surgery. Our BCBS and Avmed refused to pay. My husband watched the surgery video, me, no way was I watching. I do not care what they did, we just had an awesome and wonderful surgeon and we trusted him to put our lives in his hands. You are doing great on the weight loss, and good job! We are 66 and 67, and I only wish we could have done this 10 years sooner before our health worsened. Best of luck to you, and hope to see you posting and making good friends This is an awesome support group! Linda
  15. Stacey, Sounds like you are keeping a good plan going. I am 8 weeks post op. I measure nothing because I do not get hungry. Every doctor is different. Ours said "Eat Healthy". No guidelines after 4 weeks. So we are content to have a shake or 1 egg for Breakfast, a yogurt for lunch, and maybe some refried Beans for dinner with a wedge of Laughing Cow cheese melted on it. Makes my life simple. Sometimes I felt like I was not even sleeved, because I could drink so much without a problem. I personally feel the more I eat the more I will want to eat, so while I don't have these nagging stomach/hunger pains like I used to I am taking it easy. I still grab a SF popsicle when I feel it is head hunger. I had a bad experience with a small piece of chicken, so I did find out the hard way I was sleeved. We are all so different. Your plan sounds good and is working for you! Best of luck!

    New to forum, advice please!

My husband and I were sleeved and told 2 people (his choice that it is no one else's business). I do wish you would consider telling at least 1 person you trust. I wish you the very best of luck with your procedure, and you will get expert help from the friends here who have been banded. I don't think you are crazy, there are reasons we all do what we do. But I promise you this, you will not fail!!!! Therefore, do not be afraid of failure. Cheers to a new you and a new life. Hugs, Linda

    APPROVED!

You have 30 days LOL and it will fly by! Get your Vitamins bought, ask your questions here, pack your bag for the hospital, get your food bought for 2 weeks after surgery. I did all this for me and my husband, and thanks to all the good advice i received here I was well prepared. It seems overwhelming but it is just in our minds! I busied myself cleaning closets so I would not be sitting around waiting. I also spent a lot of time in the stores, reading labels. One thing that helped me was a monthly calendar I kept in the kitchen, making notes doe pre-op and post op appointments. surgery, and I wrote the dates for starting liquids, dates to stop taking certain meds and vitamins, and the dates for different meal schedules after surgery. No way could my brain hold all that info! Best of luck to you! Linda

    doreens decision

Schmincke, Best of luck tomorrow and prayer for you. My husband was terrified because of his health problems. The look on his face prior to surgery..............didn't faze me because I knew he was not going to be living long enough if I didn't encourage and comfort him through the surgery. BTW, I was sleeved first and he saw how easy it was with me, he could not believe it! We are both sleeved almost two months and life is so much sweeter!

    Aetna Approved!

Well HHH I am happy for you! I am almost two months sleeved and life could not be better. I had barely any pain, needed 1 spoonful of pain meds at home, I expected things to be 10 times worse. I have so much more energy and happy as a pig in a mud hole! Best of luck, keep us posted!

My story! So excited! Yet so scared!

Diane, your story is almost everyone's story. We women spend our lives as caretakers, taking care of most everyone, our homes, sometimes jobs, rather than having spa and gym memberships (LOL) and taking care of ourselves. This is you time. Let it be known you want to be pampered for a change! Personally I rested a week after being sleeved, but after that I was shopping several hours a day, and I hate shopping. Best to you, keep us posted! I am loving my new life, and you will too!!!!!

    Okay.......i bought them.....

RJ, I am 67. My husband still talks about me buying a bikini and he sure has never seen me in one (and won't). LOL! I hope you fit in those white jeans soon! But don't give the man a heart attack!

6 weeks out - Crunchy foods?

Almost 8 weeks out and I am not ready to try anything crunchy. Honestly, I would rather not risk being adventurous and the repercussions. My one treat is 2-4 pieces of dry roasted edamame (the size of a pea), and I usually grab them and keep on going as I chew them to death. Very tasty and curb my craving for salty snack. I think I might be over cautious, but one choking episode on small bite of chicken (ate too fast/didn't chew so well) that caused me to feel like I was having a serious heart attack has made me this way. I am a little afraid that when I buy the chip style treats that I will go back to eating too much. Sticking to popsicles! Hope everyone is having a sunshiny Monday!
