Fears! (Questions)

My husband needed the cpap 5 years and was forced to get it before he was sleeved (12/2) thank God. He got it 1 month prior to surgery, so he is still being monitored by the pulmonary doctor. Medicare has strict guidelines and he must use the machine to keep it. He just had another sleep study this week. For years he would quit breathing when he slept. The few nights he goes without it now he sleeps normally and no extreme snoring. Hoping he will be able to get off it. But I worried more about the diabetes than the cpap. Good luck, I hear lots of people come off the cpap!!!

    Nerves!

Jencovi, I am wishing you peace and relaxation through this process. You have been through so much. I am 67 and the sleeving 11/18 was a piece of cake. Same for my husband sleeved 12/2. I went shopping 4 days after surgery. No nausea, no problems whatsoever. I am off Metformin and 1 of my blood pressure pills. My husband (Type 2 diabetic) is on a low dose of insulin, and his blood sugar averages 110 daily, not 40 or 400 daily. We were very nervous about this surgery and it was 10 times easier than expected. Fear is just the unknown. Life is so good and it will be for you.

    My rant update (dh)

HotB, I have followed Misty from day one so I am aware of that. Misty's salary won't go a long way when paying bills, feeding her children and medical bills. I am simply pointing out to you Misty that you know where to get the help you will need. Best wishes Misty.

    Fears! (Questions)

Hi Josh, good luck! We could all have a blood clot without this surgery. Any surgery has risks, but you might have risks without surgery, right? My husband was 320 prior to sleeving 12/2. He is diabetic, has a heart stent, was on 3 BP meds, sleep apnea (terrible), neuropathy, back problems which limit him walking or doing anything much but sitting. He is at 278 now. I was sleeved also on 11/18. We have never once thrown up. We drink without restriction today. We drank slowly after surgery but we always could drink liquids, just a bit slower after surgery. No regrets here! We have been going to seminars 10 years. Just wish the sleeve had been available/covered by insurance many years ago before our health worsened. We are 67 and 66 and thankful we have a chance now to do things and get on with living. Rather than sitting in a rocking chair. God Bless! Life is wonderful!

    Ugh...

Piece of cake. So worth it! Some people fly to Mexico, so good luck!!! Don't let little things get you down.

    Off my meds!

WOW, that sounds great! All of you! My husband had the sleeve 12/2 and is still on his base dose of insulin, but he is weak from the drop in his blood pressure. He came off one BP med, and even though he felt woozy he got in the shower and passed out cold. Cracked 6 tiles, cut his arm terribly, and terrible bruising where he hit his face. We do our best to have minimum carbs and sugar. I hate diabetes. I hope I never have another 3 a.m. morning with him unconscious and calling rescue. Horrible experiences over 22 years, which is our reason for WLS.

    My rant update (dh)

I wish I could give you a hug. You may not know where your next meal will come from with him gone, but I guarantee with your smarts you know where to find help and you will survive. You have been fighting the system for your babies a long time I know, and you might even cause him to get a job. God's Grace.

Wanna Rant About Spouses & How Clueless They Can be sometimes?

If someone judges you, the hell with them. This forum is for helping each other and being supportive. Life is short. Children are forever. I have been through harder times than anyone can imagine, and people would say Oh My God if I spoke. I choose not to because happiness is mine now. If you had a marriage you would not be here with your rants. God Bless.

    Fish question!

Trust me, you cannot eat a lot of refried beans, a little will fill you up. We were given tons of information by our surgeon and nutritionist and refried beans was one of the first things mentioned when on mushy. Carbs we don't worry about, you will only eat less than 1/4 cup at a time, most likely. Good luck!

  24. Wigster, good luck and welcome! We have tried every protein powder. Bariatric Advantage from the surgeon's office is too chalky for me, and slimy (sorry) if you don't add lots of ice. My husband tolerates it, not me. I bought EAS at Walmart, and it was approved by the nutritionist. The powder is cheaper than BA. Personal favorite is Premier Protein from Sam's Club or Costco, 30 grams protein in one shake.

I just ordered Puritan Whey, BOGO, because I heard on a thread it was good and I plan to make a lot of iced shakes into the summer months. I would highly recommend you try to get samples before buying big containers of powders.

After surgery we are not allowed fruit, and willing to forego it anyway because of our diabetes. Smoothies so good with the fruits though LOL. Try Torani SF syrups with your shakes, available in the grocery store in the coffee section.

Best of luck everyone!

    THE TRUTH ABOUT BOOMERS

Saint Linda I will never be LOL. I am very opinionated since I reached my 60s, and have told all my FB nieces, nephews, cousins, young friends, I have earned that right to say what I want now that I am in my 60s. Haven't made any of my relatives mad but I have chafed 2 people around here who were not nice a bit. Oh well. I am over the longtime need to have everyone like me. LOL. Glad for the progress with your BP and sugar Sassy. It can only get better!! I pray for the day my husband could be off insulin but I have read posts and met a nurse at our surgeon's office who probably weighs 140, sleeved several years, and has never come off insulin. Hmmm. I don't want preaching either. Not from Facebook for sure. I have a wonderful relationship with God but it is personal. OK, I challenge you to that race LOL!!!! Get busy!
