1. How about refried beans, lowfat chili made with ground turkey and beans. quiche, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, lowfat soup (slip in the unflavored proteins), Laughing Cow cheese wedges, bean soups, crab cakes made very lowfat, grilled fish, smoked salmon.... So many options!
  2. Hi Dona! I am so not an expert but my first thought is the sugar in the watermelon, and the carbs in the potatoes. Some doctors recommend all these things, some say noooo! LOL. It is trial and error with us all. My husband and I, because of diabetes, shun all carbs and sugar. We stick to Proteins. So far managing that well/ Are you losing weight???? If you are following your doctors guidelines then so be it. I would think you are not getting enough calories or proteins. You can add Protein powder to those potatoes. Good luck to you! I have no idea if we are doing everything right, I should begin writing down..... Keep us posted!

    Hubby surgery tomorrow!

My husband were sleeved 2 weeks apart. So easy to be doing this together. Prayers for your husband. I understand, my husband has terrible health. He is down to 1 BP med not 3, and his diabetes is better, blood sugar averaging 110 daily not 40 or 400. Thank God for the sleeving. Prayers for your husband as he goes through the surgery.

    Self image, anger, & resentment

Sex is exercise remember. You can sleep when you are dead. Men are like little boys in a candy shop sometimes. If you love him, really, really love him, relax and try to enjoy the newfound intimacy. Or have a talk with him and set boundaries. Your rules. Congratulations on your weight loss. Most of us have saggy boobies, our men don't care LOL!

B-52. You worded this so right, the entire post. It has been in my head, reading advice given by some. Thanks for saying it so eloquently.

only lost a pound and stalls...

Love this! I remember thinking when I had lost 40 lbs. it was like I had been walking around with 8 5-lb. bags of sugar. What a load. No wonder I am not gasping for breath! I always equate 5 lbs. of sugar with 5 lbs. Keeps it real. .

    Learning what not to do

Well said Art! That one bit of crockpot chicken I did not chew well enough 1 month post op which made me almost call Rescue for the heart attack I thought I was having, made me rethink eating and I am sticking to basics and not trying to act like my old self. It was SCARY as hell. I simply love refried beans and soup LOL!

    Bad cold.. Meds?

Amanda, I found this online. When choosing an OTC product, there are many factors to consider. Tablets and liquids (like Mucinex® and Delsym®) that are taken once or twice a day are more likely to be extended-release products that will not be as effective for gastric bypass patients, but certainly appropriate for adjustable gastric band and sleeve gastrectomy patients. Some products contain lots of sugar, which can cause nausea, pain, sweating and diarrhea (referred to as “dumping syndrome”) in patients who have had gastric bypass surgery. I think you should call your doctor to be safe since you are only one week out. I found this on Barefeet in the Kitchen.com Homemade cough remedy. Mix ginger, cayenne, cider vinegar and honey. I get bronchitis so often and plan to try this. Hope you feel better! Linda

    Desperately seeking sleever....HELP!

So sorry you had such problems. I am sure you are agitated with all the problems and worry. I think if you can relax a bit, sip that room temp water and broth a couple days, you will feel better and then get going here with questions from the experts about your eating. Prayers for you to feel better. Take care, Linda

    Any Florida Sleevers?

Hello Lynda, I am doing fantastic! I had surgery on a Monday at 3 pm, walked that evening a little, had a leak test the next morning, and went home about 3 pm. I had one dose of pain meds at home, rested, and went to the grocery store on Thursday. The following week I was shopping, something I hate to do, and I just had so much energy it was fun. Could not be happier!!! I am 67, older than you. I feel like a new person, honestly. I am off Metformin for diabetes, and off 1 BP medicine. Definitely my asthma is better, I am not gasping for breathe anymore when I come home from the store. My husband and I are so thankful we had this surgery!!!! 2 months out, and taking it easy with food. We avoid carbs and sugar, and keep our meals to the basics. You will be so happy to be sleeved, I promise!!!! Keep me posted Lynda.

    Is my NUT crazy?

Hi there. So much info/different advice here! Scary sometimes. Your stats are similar to my husband. He was sleeved 12/2. and I was on 11/18. I called our NUT because we had no guidelines after week 4, and she said our surgeon wants his patients to eat healthy and make their own decisions after 4 weeks. He told my husband 3 weeks after surgery, only eat when you are hungry, do not try to eat 3 meals a day. This may sound radical but we have complete faith in this surgeon who has probably operated on 1/4 of the nurses in a large hospital, and he is considered the best. I just wanted to give you this comparison because I agree with you this is too much food. My husband is diabetic and we steer clear of carbs and he is doing fantastic, blood sugar averaging 110, not 40 or 400. He is also off 1 BP med. Today he had a boiled egg, a sort of large piece of smoked turkey, and FF chicken Soup for dinner. Most nights he has a small serving of smoked salmon as his evening meal. We usually do a shake every morning. I wish you luck and I would compare all the responses you get here and make wise decisions, or go back and talk to the surgeon. Best wishes!!!

    Help Please anyone

Try to relax, and take good care and get rest. I was terrified I would get my yearly 3-week bronchitis and I have not!!! It might just be a little sniffle so be positive and stay away from crowds. You are almost there! Best wishes.

    Worried and scared, feeling alone

Yasmine, My husband and I do not have trouble with the diet plan at all. Because of diabetes, we never have been able to have Pasta and rice, and the main thing we eat is protein. This is the easiest food plan ever, because you will not be hungry, or barely, and you can simplify your life. My husband and I eat whatever we feel like, when we feel like it. Our surgeon is a little different, and told us to eat healthy and make our decisions ourselves, eating Protein first. So much to choose from, such as boiled egg, eggbeaters, scrambled egg, lowfat cheese stick, FF Soups with added unflavored Protein Powder, refried Beans with a wedge of Laughing Cow White Cheddar cheese melted on it, Protein Shakes to which you can always add SF syrups, Jello powder, pudding powder, Crystal Light powder. I have cooked vegetables, but my old way of cooking is down the drain, lol. No more big pots of green beans. You can grab a yogurt and it fills you up for lunch. We have been so satisfied with these choices that I haven't cooked but once since surgery 11/18, and that was crockpot chicken. Honestly I ate too much as it was one of my favorite recipes I adapted, so we decided we would be satisfied without having regular meals. You have to change the plan if you have family to feed, of course. You are going to be amazed!!!
  17. Honestly, this is so different than anything to do with dieting that you have ever done, and you can do it! There is a huge payoff and you can read about it here with all these success stories. Our doctor chided us that he didn't want to find part of a hamburger, LOL, in our stomachs during surgery. It was always on my mind that whatever I ate he would see it. Ridiculous I know!

Best of luck. I just wish I could have this surgery many years ago - it is such a dream come true. One minute at a time, one hour, one day! God Bless!

    in a funk....

Intelirish, I can relate to your feelings. Most people think I am upbeat all the time but the health problems that lead us to WLS can really get us down. The surgery will change our bodies but not our moods so much. I always say we women are just worriers, period. My scale moves slowly, and sometimes I wonder if I was really sleeved. I, like you, had a choking problem eating a soft piece of chicken too quickly without chewing enough. Scared me to death. Thought I was having a real heart attack. Good job on your weight loss, keep talking, things will work out. Get your mind set on how wonderful life will be when Spring comes. Being outdoors in the sunshine has me getting excited to think about it! Best wishes!

    The pre-op diet

Hello Truck! My husband and I were sleeved. Good luck. There are so many people here who have different meal plans. Just go with your surgeon's advice and you will also find so much help here as you go through it. This has been incredible. We are 1 1/2 months and 2 months post op. Best of luck to you!!!!!

As it was, he was hurt, no bones broken thank God, but broke 6 tiles in the shower. Please be careful, our bodies are going through changes. His was low blood pressure problem.
  22. I keep busy, quit weighing for 2-3 weeks, and yeaaaa, the scale moves! Good luck!

    Any Florida Sleevers?

Hello Florida friends. Hope everyone is doing great! All I can think about is getting on the beach when it warms up, and walk with the sand between my toes without gasping for breath! I am not panting because of my asthma anymore just coming home from the grocery store! Have a wonderful day today!
