    gout?

Makes no sense to me lol, I just went thru 4 weeks of gout and all I had at Christmas was 1 slice smoked turkey (the foods high in purine I do not eat), at one month post op sleeve. All I can figure is I slacked on water. Worst pain ever in my big toe. Please never come back, gout.

    Advice/Suggestions

Best wishes on your decision. I too have asthma, HBP, diabetes (but off Metformin now), and I am 67. I wish I had the sleeve at a younger age because of the years of yoyo dieting, and waiting for the sleeve to be approved by insurance. I think my health would not have worsened, but thankful today I have the sleeve! YAY!!

    Introductions

I am 67 and my husband 66, both sleeved about 2 months ago. Due to my husband's health problems we began seminars 10 years ago. Until the sleeve came along, he was not comfortable and would not do it. Diabetes and health worsening, and my problems started, also diabetic, asthma, HBP, etc. got us motivated to take the plunge. Two months out and we are delighted with the sleeve and the change in our life and our health! Go for it before your health worsens! God Bless.

How Do You Beat the Cold?

If I am freezing to death in North Florida I can only imagine what some of you are experiencing. Told my husband I would never complain of the heat again, and he snorted! I think WLS and losing some fat has changed me for sure. Love the posts!

    Consultation

You will have a lot of good advice, and answers to your many questions here DonaiA. We started looking at WLS 10 years ago, and finally got the sleeve which we felt was the safest and best for us, considering many health issues. Wish we had done it a long time ago. 2 months post op and doing fantastic!!! Happy for you.

I have Spring Vally Biotin, 10 mg (10,000 mcg.) Take 1 per day. (purchased Walmart) You would be taking 5,000 mg. a day compared to my 10 mg. a day. Double check the dose.

    No drain tube after VSG?

Surgery in Florida, me and husband. No drains, 1 night following sleeving and both had the hernias. Uneventful recovery without problems! I would beware and keep talking and seeking answers from others here. Try to find FB groups in your area and ask others about different doctors in your area. Best of luck!

    do you hate cooking?

My husband and I were both sleeved and thank goodness we like different foods. He eats when he is hungry and I eat when I am hungry. He loves smoked salmon, I don't. Even if he did not have surgery this would work for us since we never sat down to meals since it is just 2 of us. I try to keep what he likes in the fridge, and plenty of soups for emergency. We are just eating healthier now, proteins and shakes, and no longer have any bread, crackers, carbs, fruit, or sweets in the house.
  13. We had 1 dose of pain med at home after 1 night in hospital. Pain was minimal. Just rested a couple days and was shopping the 4th day after surgery, at the grocery store. I am sure if you have pain your doctor will give you something that works, yell very loudly! I do not like pain. Best of luck to you!

    Sleeve today, in recovery

Sounds like you are doing great - My husband and I had no sleeve problems. I think it went 10 times easier than expected LOL! Very serious, So I would say just relax and enjoy your rest, getting waited on. I have had so much more energy, am off Metformin, and my husband's blood sugar runs about 110, not 350 every morning. Still on his basic dose of insulin, but no raging blood sugars since we have no more carbs or sugars. He used to eat massive amounts of fruits at night to keep his blood sugar from dropping to 40 at night, and now he is having no more night sweats and problems thank God. Take care!

Brothamike, I bought Unjury unflavored powder. I felt that right after surgery I wanted the best powder available. Worry about the protein and vitamin intake, hair, etc. I bought vanilla EAS powder at Walmart, approved by our NUT. I like the EAS best for shakes, while my husband likes Bariatric Advantage best. I found most were either vanilla or chocolate, except for the Unjury brand. I have not even used the unflavored protein however, because most of our meals are protein. Because of diabetes, we don't have any pasta, crackers, bread or carb products in the house, and we don't have any sugars/desserts. My husband usually eats when he is hungry, and I do the same. Our surgeon seems a little different, and cautioned us, do not eat 3 meals a day. Eat heathy and eat when you are hungry was the instruction. What I dislike about the protein powder is that if you add it to hot soup, it curdles (clumps). I really like hot foods in the winter. Maybe when winter goes away it will be better added to other things, like SF pudding, etc. I would caution you not to buy in bulk. Best of luck!!!

    High Blood Sugar AM

My husband was sleeved 12/2, me on 11/18. I am off Metformin (yay!!), and his BS is running 110 in the mornings, which is a far cry from the 350 he used to wake up to. I will take 110 any day but I so hope one day he will be off insulin. Diabetes has been the scariest part of my life with him and the sleeve is a Godsend = HOPE.

    My sleeve Day 1

Maybe others can tell us if they have had any bad experience with anything fried. I am supposed to go to a big family reunion in March and I heard the Friday night menu is fried fish so.........that was why I was asking. I do not want to get sick. At one month post op I had a small piece of chicken I didn't chew well enough. (soft crockpot chicken). It stuck near my breastbone and the pain felt like a heart attack! I have not cooked since. Scared me to death.

    My sleeve Day 1

XXSHE, wondering if you fried the catfish (the reason you got sick). Just curious. I have heard people here have gotten sick from fried food. 2 months out and I have not had anything fried. Good luck, sounds like you and everyone are doing fabulous!

    Day 6 post surgery

I am 2 months post op. I took one dose of pain med when I came home. My husband and I barely experienced any pain or took meds. I read a lot of posts and it seems like it is pretty common to feel a little down after surgery. I feel like the worst part is not knowing what to expect. We are doing great, trying little bits of new foods without a problem, and I just want to remind everyone to chew, chew and chew more!!! We drink all day long without a problem. Being a little cautious is a good thing!!! Very happy for you all, and myself, for the successes, the faith, and the strength to take control of our lives!

My husband and I were blessed. Very little pain. No problem drinking and eating except one episode for me with a small piece of chicken. Taking Biotin for the hair, 2 months now and fine. Hubby is already bald lol. Maybe I should share my biotin and make him happy that he might get hair! Good job everyone!<br />

    My gastric sleeve surgery

Good luck JohnCarter! Seems like yesterday we were planning our Nov & Dec sleeving, and now we are two months post op. The pre op and newly post op diet requirements are now a faded memory. The worst part about the surgery was the unknown. Truthfully for me, it was 10 times easier than I expected. Some people have problems with nausea/vomiting.etc. but for the most part I see a lot of people are like me and within a week I hardly felt like I had surgery. Best wishes everyone, this has been awesome and wonderful. Thank God we are sleeved!
