    quick and easy foods

Smoked salmon, broiled fish of any kind. I would sure steer clear of the chicken and cheese soups with mashed potatoes. We like frozen Aidelles Chicken Meatballs with Caramellized Onion (3 meatballs = 130 cals, 3 g. carbs, 9 g. fat, 10 g. protein, 2 g. sugar). Very good taste. Refried beans are a staple. You can add them to a soup made with FF chicken broth and vegetables. Thank goodness I love beans also, of any kind. They make a good meatless dinner.

    Learned the hard way :(

You seem to be doing well and losing weight, but I am terribly afraid to eat carbs like you do. Of course we steered clear of them prior to surgery. I think I am afraid I will be able to eat them without a problem (unlike some people who get very sick), and then I would be eating a lot of carbs. I think I will stick to not pushing the issue. Continued good luck!

Ally, neither my husband or I had any nausea, and we took 1 dose of pain med at home after 1 night in hospital. Could not believe we had worried so much over things that did not happen. Try to relax!

    Learned the hard way :(

My husband and I are no longer free to use the frozen fruits or fresh fruits, or add them to shakes, but since his blood sugars are not dropping to 40 during the night he does not have to load up on the sugar in the fruits at bedtime. I hope one day we will feel comfortable having a little fruit again.

    Premier Protein Shakes

They are the best I think!
  7. My husband and I this past week bought 2 small filet mignons. I cooked them both, and we shared one and could not eat the other. They are the most tender cut of meat, and since you cannot eat much anyway, might as well have the best. Price was $10 for two, but high priced per pound. Keep that in mind when you are allowed to have a little meat, they are tender. Mostly I buy ground turkey and make patties with that. I have some turkey sausage patties, and I cooked them in Pam spray, and then chopped them into crumbles. We can eat 1 scrambled egg, and I put about a teaspoon in and scramble the egg. Look up foods that are proteins and plan your meals with them.

    fast tracked and fearfull

My husband and I went to seminars 10 years ago and he was never ready. Last year we went to a seminar in August, loved the surgeon, started the process and boom it seems like it was all done and we had a surgery date 11/18 and 12/2. We are 65 and 66 and I feel 10 years younger and went shopping for hours a week after surgery. The process, 1 night in the hospital, was 10 times easier than we expected. Go for it. Don't wait until your health deteriorates. You will lose the weight. If your boyfriend doesn't love you after surgery then he can hit the road. This is for YOU and YOUR HEALTH!
  9. My husband's favorite food is smoked salmon. Also, in the freezer section there is cajun salmon (my favorite, not too spicy) frozen in pieces, and you microwave it a few minutes. We buy it at Sam's Wholesale Club. He thinly slices the smoked into small pieces for his dinner a lot. You can buy the smoked in the grocery store but in small packages. You can also buy frozen and bake or grill it. If seafood is all you can eat, you can choose any fish and broil or bake it. At six weeks we were allowed turkey chili, and it is simple to make, or a lot of people buy it at Wendys. I love refried beans, and you can buy them in the grocery store and heat them with a little Laughing Cow cheddar cheese melted on top. I do not cook any meals anymore, except something like chili, and I freeze it for small meals. You cannot eat that much anyway. We are just 8 weeks post op and we eat a lot of different things now, but like someone said, your doctor might have different rules. We share a small low fat hamburger patty with zucchini for a meal. We eat a boiled egg for breakfast. We have half a premier chocolate shake at lunch. We are older than you so we are not having to keep that energy going as much. You can keep posting on this thread and asking questions, and it will come to my email. I will try to guide you a little better next time. Good luck! Linda

Such a worthless topic (in my humble opinion) what anyone says. Life is short. Surround yourself with sweetness!!!!!

    Introducing myself

Hello and welcome Meg. My husband and I were both sleeved and loving it. You will find great people here, and lots of information. This site will be your new best friend, believe me! Good luck! Linda
  17. Never thought I would see the day I felt comfortable enough to get in a kayak, but I did! It was exhilerating, to say the least! My daughter is my heart, and she bought the kayaks and pushed me into it, while my husband watched and laughed. He says a few more lbs. and he will buy us a kayak. What exquisite fun! 50 lbs down and I have sat in my easy chair the entire year of 2013, my year of retirement, and watched the year go by, with much sadness. The last couple we knew who got more and more overweight sitting in front of the TV and eating ended up unable to walk, went in a nursing home, and died young. Thanks to the sleeve for both of us, I hope we will be in a kayak when we die! If not, I don't think we will die sitting sadly in an easy chair. So very happy we were sleeved and having a chance to live again!

    Long term Vet success strategies

Lynda, I like this, and the other posts. I feel like a veteran since September, since my husband and I are pretty much housebound - but hoping to change that. I need everyones guidance and I really like this thread, to gain new tools and advice to keep me and my husband on track. We went to a post op seminar and was "served" a pretzel cracker. Power of suggestion, and I bought a bag and ate 5 small ones today. I thought what the heck am I doing, having vowed to forego crackers of any nature. They go to the neighbor kids tomorrow. Keep the advice coming, I need it. Linda BTW, we are 65 and 66 years old.

My sleeve is in a knot.

I love Gman's post, "Then the Angels came". A lot of us have lost our parents, and it is the most gutwrenching part of life. You were blessed to have that beautiful relationship with your Mother. You know she is soaring with those Angels above, looking over you. She is also forever in your heart. God Bless. You will need to take it easy and take care of yourself now.

    Learned the hard way :(

I have not and will not have carbs. Rice I have read, will do the same thing, so will bread, But some people say they can eat it, I choose to leave it behind. I do not want the pain or the vomiting. I really want to lose more pounds!!! At three weeks we were eating mushies and pureed foods, no chicken and pasta. I did get choked on a piece of crockpot chicken at 4 weeks so reverted back to mushies another week. Felt like a heart attack. Good luck.

    Calling All Sixties!

My husband and I are 66 and 65 and sleeved 2 months ago. I am definitely not huffing and puffing with every step I make anymore (asthma), and I feel a renewed sense of joy at going grocery shopping and not gasping for breath as I come in with the groceries, feeling the need to call rescue because I cannot breathe. Have not used my inhalers at all, off BP med, off Metformin, neuropathy is gone, and my husband off 1 BP med, and no longer eating massive carbs/fruit to stay conscious at night with his diabetes. Waiting for our summer to come back to Florida so we can go boating again many years before we croak. 2013 was a wasted depressing first year of retirement for me, until I was sleeved in November. I no longer hover over my husband at night to make sure he is breathing. Wish we had been sleeved way before this. I have happiness in my heart for life again. I vow not to sit in this chair the rest of my life. Buying me a kayak too. Lots of plans! God luck everyone!

    What kind of ?'s

We had a chatty meet and greet with a psychologist that lasted about 30 minutes. Relax and just be prepared to answer questions honestly and sincerely. We know we are overweight, we all have tried every diet, we all have the same things in common. Just be yourself. No test is required lol! Best wishes!
