B12?

The B-12 shot is in the fat, not the muscle. Aline, I guess you are asking the amount of liquid Vitamin I take and it is 2 TBSP per day

My Sleeve Story

How blessed you are doing this surgery for yourself and your child. Now you can plan a lot of things you might not have been able to do before surgery. Take care of yourself and focus on getting to know the new you. It will be the best gift you could have given yourself. Never thought I could go a day without Diet Coke, but I swear, in this 7 month journey I do not even want one. Have not even missed them, much less the money I spent and the grocery store trips buying 10 at a time LOL!

B12?

B-12 shots for me, for sure! I found Nature's Plus Source of Life Liquid Gold multivitamin when I could not tolerate the Bariatric Advantage multivitamin. A compound pharmacist recommended it. I wrote down and compared every ingredient in each vitamin, and the liquid won. I wanted the best vitamins I could find, to keep myself healthy. I even like the taste. Don't forget the Biotin, for your hair. Good luck!

My Sleeve Story

Best wishes to you Michelle, and welcome here. I was sleeved 11/18/13 and am about the happiest person around! Life could not be sweeter getting the sleeve, even at 67. It was a bit scary some days, feeling like I wasn't sure I was doing things right, but at three months, each day is a gift. I hope you have as much fun planned as I do this summer. Take care! Linda

Im a Beginner

Melissa, I just must step in here and tell you I feel so bad that you have such problems and I really hope that you feel better soon. I know our bodies all react differently, but my husband and I are 66/67 and we have never had any of the problems you describe except gas in the shoulder area. I really feel like you will get stronger every day and this experience will change your life like it has changed ours. Hugs and prayers from afar, Linda
6. Definitely when the scale didn't move (like the last 3 weeks), I could still tell a difference in my clothes.
7. The weight does not fall off fast, no matter what you think. It has been coming off very slowly for 5 months here. The scale stays the same most of the time but my clothes fit different. My cure was weighing about every 2 weeks and not worrying if the scale does not move. Voila! 50 pounds down! Relax is my advice. Best of luck!

Emotions

If you are acting like (or feeling) you are sick it will worry you and everyone around you. I was out shopping a week after surgery and feeling like a new person. I could not be more happy. Yes I still worry, but before sleeving I was depressed and hardly left the house. I think the winter doldrums might be a causation of some of the emotions felt here. I also read a lot of posts, and a common thread is about exercising any way you can and get that blood pumping. I am 67. I cannot do as much as most of you but I am so excited. BTW I gained my last 30 lbs. being on Prozac for depression, which made me more depressed. Good luck to each and every one of you. Linda
9. Premier Protein Shakes have been our favorite. Also I like the convenience of grab one and go off for the day. We went through two bags of Bariatric Advantage Protein Powder, and thank God my husband tolerates them because I cannot. I plan to continue to use the EAS protein powder (from Walmart) once the weather warms because when blended with ice it is very good.
10. I will only say I would not take my 13 year old daughter to Mexico for surgery. If I wanted the surgery for her, I would find a way pay for the best U.S. hospital and surgeon I could afford. Have you considered follow-up care? You need guidance and follow-up for any problem.

Lack of energy

At 67 I had lots of energy 2 weeks post sleeve and shopped for hours. I do not know if it was mental or what. I do take a great multivitamin, B-12 shots, have had a knee replacement, and have followed the guidelines of the surgeon. Do you have a Nutritionist you can talk to? You should get lots of advice here. Best of luck!

58 years too old for VSG?

At 67 I am sleeved, 50 lbs. lighter, and strutting around. Woohoo! I love love love it!!!!!! My focus is no longer about feeling sorry for myself. Going for the gusto and lots of plans this year!

I have a few questions

Hi there! Since you asked....I think 15 lbs. in 3 weeks is awesome! We were not allowed any of those foods until about 6 weeks post op but good for you if you don't have that restriction. If you buy Bariatric Advantage chocolate calcium citrate, it is like having a tootsie roll every day for a treat. Being diabetic, we have no sweets around. My craving was bread, and since the sleeving I don't even crave that any more. My husband and I did the sleeve for a lifestyle change, and I hope you will re-think your health and not ever pick up another cigarette. I am a former smoker.

x-posted - So disappointed - WWYD?

My husband and I paid total of $600 non refundable. Backing out was not an option, no matter what, with insurance covering this surgery. I agree with Madam, go for it. Small price to pay for a new you. Knowing what I know and seeing my new me in 2 months since surgery, it was so worth it!

Uk gastric band in 7days dolan hospital

Paul, Good to hear back! I would like to suggest you fill out your stats. When you ask others about their experiences, they check your stats (height, age, weight, date of surgery, type of surgery). Trust me you will get so much information here. Lots of men participate and there is a forum called men only or mens' room. My husband is 6'1, was 320 lbs., and at the doctor today he weighed 268, since he was sleeved 12/2. Best of luck, keep posting and making many friends!

Florida is where I have always lived. The Sarasota area is beautiful with their white sand beaches!!!

Mung Bean "Fettucine"

Not sure I could do spaghetti sauce and cabbage! I need to bake some eggplant and use spaghetti sauce, or the zucchini. Thanks, guessing I am foregoing those darn mung beans. I figured someone has been a guinea pig already!

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE Help Me Choose! :)

I would recommend that medical professionals help you make such a choice. Please read the posts here and search out related topics. Losing too fast would be unhealthy and unwise in my humble opinion. Between my husband and myself, we have: asthma, neuropathy, HBP, diabetes, heart stent, knee replacement, cellulitis, could barely walk, either of us, and more. My asthma exacerbated the onset of 3 weeks of horrible bronchitis once or twice a year. I did not get bronchitis in December for the first time in ? 7 years??? Maybe no connection, I do nnot know but losing weight will sure help your breathing. We would do the sleeve again and wish we could have done it 10 years ago! Would do it again in a heartbeat. Loving the loss of 100 lbs. total between the 2 of us in 4 1/2 months. There are a lot more people who weigh more than you so you are not in this boat alone. We have researched WLS 10 years. Choose wisely and be informed. Good luck!

Uk gastric band in 7days dolan hospital

Hello there Paul, My husband and I were sleeved Nov. and Dec., 2 weeks apart, and our experience is that it has been 10 times easier than we expected. We have had no issues and we are both down 50 pounds in a 4 month period. We share many meals and still have leftovers. We do not get ravenous with hunger anymore. I am off Metformin. We are both off one blood pressure medicine. My husband no longer has to eat large amounts of fruit to keep his blood sugar stable during the night. I no longer have the burning pain of neuropathy in my feet. I can walk without gasping for breath. We are eating healthy, we can go off for the day with a small protein shake and not have to stop for a meal LOL. We are loving the sleeve and would do it again in a heartbeat! Good luck!

Headaches?

From what I read it happened to many of us, excruciating headaches. I understand it was weaning off caffeine and I was very dehydrated the day of surgery so one of the other or both. My husband had the headaches too. We went cold turkey off caffeine, no coffee and no diet cokes.

Is there anything more depressing...

Thanks for the heads up. If I had black hair there are cute wigs. I have thin blonde hair and the shiny blonde wigs look like old ladies would wear. Never mind I am an old lady at 67, I just don't think I am wanting to look like an old lady in a wig. I have a pretty long red wig I bought for Halloween. I swear I will wear if need be. I read some movie star had her extensions taken our with pliers??? Not going that route. Cheers to hair. Wear a visor when need be. We will survive.

post- op food ideas?

Don't stress too much over choices. Keep it simple with the basics mentioned above, and rest, sleep, walk, read and keep your mind busy. I spent that time sitting and making menus and reading for my 2nd and 3rd menu phases. So much help for you here, and the best of luck!!!!
25. My advice also is to keep yourself busy and find a project. Cross-stitch. Anything! I have re-done my closet from top to bottom. I love consignment and thrift stores. I read. Watch movie after movie. I have re-done my dresser drawers. I have absolutely no candy or sweets in this house for any weak moment. Diabetes x two of us equals NO. I got sleeved, my diabetes is gone thank God, no more Metformin, and trying to get my husband healthier and hope one day he might be off insulin. If you read the posts everywhere Jill, everyone is suffering the loss or want of something. Fighting that battle. Get tough and get healthier girl. Counting our blessings, right Jill? :-) Linda
