Day 3 post op- need support friends!

Just want to say welcome and wish you well in the healing. We had an easy time of that part, but we all run into problems just like any other surgery. Hang in there!

    Shingles? Possibly?

Some people have symptoms worse than others. I am wishing you a mild case and prayers for a quick recovery!

    Friends

I am confused as to why she made you feel bad about losing weight. Is she really a good friend? I hope you do not let anyone drag you down. Keep walking, you need that exercise! Are you really eating enough? Please consult with the nutritionist about those calories, Proteins and carbs! Best of luck!!

    what are your fears?

I truly had no fears, just excitement. My health was worsening with asthma, diabetes, high cholesterol, and HBP. Weight kept going up. I could barely walk. Knee replacement too. It has been everything I dreamed it would be. On the other hand, I was scared something bad would happen to my husband, who had worse health. He is doing great. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

    Pre-op and Proud

Good luck! It is awesome and I know you will do great. We have hardly had a bad day since 1 night in the hospital. No pain, no nausea, and barely any food issues. Follow your plan and you will do great!
  6. I just eat a certain amount of food, and quit. It satisfies me. I feel the more I eat the more I want to eat. So I try to make sure I do not overeat.

    Having concerns...

Your height and weigh are similar as my husband. You did not list your age, but my husband is 66 and cannot exercise because of neurological back and leg weakness. He is down 50 lbs since Dec. 2. We do have a pool now so we will begin exercise soon. We have not been nauseated ever, we eat without a problem, just slow, and drink lots of fluids. Until your leg heals completely you can rest and eat right and you will still lose weight. We are living proof. I was one night in the hospital and only 1 dose of pain meds at home, up and shopping within 3 days. I have more energy than 10 years ago. Thankful for the sleeve. Best of luck!

Feeling guilty for living in Florida...

You are so right Recycled. I should have mentioned all the negatives, plus the sinkholes that swallow our houses. The other day an Illinois friend asked if we still had crocodiles, and of course I told her yes, along with all the gators, moccasins and rattlesnakes roaming our property. There are so many nudists down here because it is too hot for clothes. Just sayin' ........

    Catheter/Foley?

I had a catheter but it was removed quickly after surgery. My husband was not so lucky. Beware men if you have prostate problems. My husband had to spend an extra 3 days in the hospital. If we knew now..... we would have insisted he have no catheter. Personally I don't see why it was even necessary anyway. We were up and walking the hall 3 hours after surgery.

    Complications

Hi there, I am so sorry to hear this. My husband and I never once have felt bad or nauseated in 3 months but just wanted to say I hope this passes soon and that you feel better! :-(

    Shingles? Possibly?

It is a one time vaccine. Are you sure it was not chicken pox you had as a child? Do discuss this with your doctor. I have a friend who is never sick, and shingles put her in bed 2 weeks. You can google information too.

    Medications

It might not be immediate but your need for some meds will lessen. I am off Metformin and a BP med. We have taken Prilosec since surgery. We are off the diuretics because of the possibility of dehydration. Our Internist will re-eval in about two months. Best wishes!
  13. Always get the small curd cottage cheese, not the large curd.

Get those meds immediately. So sorry!

My surgeon is a horrible person

They charge per page, and that is why you do not want every page. There could be 200 pages+ there. You call the hospital, ask for the Medical Records Dept. You tell them you may be moving and need to take your medical records with you (makes your reason simple for requesting records), and you want to know how much they charge per page for the copies. They might be able to tell you how many pages the total is.

My surgeon is a horrible person

Having worked for judges and lawyers 44 years, never randomly call a lawyer. OMG. Law offices can be like vultures and promise you the moon - sorry, but I know. Find a board certified lawyer who handles personal injury. If you lose a case you can be ordered to pay attorneys fees and costs for the doctor, so you want an attorney who will be experienced, not new and hungry for a case, who will explain all this. You can order the entire medical records from the hospital but it will cost. Well worth the cost however as you can sit down and read everything. You can limit the exact papers you want to include doctors' notes, nurses' notes, operative reports, history and physical, discharge summary, lab reports, you get my drift. A lot of lawyers are former federal prosecutors, so those types of backgrounds are things to look for. I think you will not be satisfied until you get a professional opinion, and I agree. I wish you the very best of luck.

    Shingles? Possibly?

Praying that it will not be very bad for you. Take care of yourself.

    Shingles? Possibly?

So sorry! Anyone who reads this should be reminded to get that shingles vaccine. I wish you the best to get better soon.

came home from the hospital yesterday

Congratulations! It is a happy time for us, changing our lives. We too needed no pain meds at home. Rest a couple days and you will be good to go. I loved the instant energy I seemed to have a few days after surgery! Even love shopping which always detested. Life is very good.

    Recipes and blogs

I loved the idea of the unjury chicken Soup and I ordered quite a bit. Caution, it almost has to be lukewarm or it "curdles". Personally I was disappointed and will give it away at support group because I want very hot soup. We are three months out. Your crockpot is the best thing to use when you plan meats or meals. My husband liked Bariatric Advantage Protein powders (not me), and I like EAS from Walmart, or the cartons of Premier Protein chocolate shakes from Sam's Club or costco. We keep our meals simple. I have dozens of cookbooks and recipes, but what you will be eating is very basic. Good luck!

    Work clothes

It was uncomfortable for 3-4 days with pants at my navel incision, but I just folded the pants down under a long shirt when I was sitting. Maybe you can manage this if you will be sitting. Unless you wear dresses, which I do not. Good luck! The soreness will not last long.

    Clothes Woes

You should find an upscale consignment shop in any large city and buy yourself some new duds that fit during these phases Johnny! Enjoyed your tale. My husband has clothes 3x to large, stored and boxed in two houses, because he is a serious hoarder. Trouble is there is there are things like some lime green polyester plaid pants (no he never played golf). His 50-lb weight loss has kept him the baggy 3x so far. This shall be very interesting, like you! Keep up the story telling. I enjoyed!

    Failed bandster planning for sleeve

Phat I am so sorry you have had all these problems and I wish you well. The information you have shared is the reason we all should be informed before we have WLS. We researched for years before we had the sleeve, and we never had all this information at our fingertips. I hope your appeal is very successful and I wish you the very best. Linda

    Anyone dealt with Medicare?

Amanda, I was on Metformin for diabetes, HBP, asthma. 5'4", 220 lbs. Medicare approved. Good luck!
  25. I just learned from my nut I was not getting enough veggies. Instead I put my main focus on Protein. Thank God I am now regular.
