    Ms Know-it-all aint so smart

Things like this confuse me but then again I am a simple person. No rage here, just the desire to life a few more years with my husband. Best wishes. Coping and happy.

    Pre-op diet - pantry necessities

I don't really see how anyone can eat baby food lol. There are so many other options. I recommend don't overbuy for that pantry. Your tastes will definitely change. I cleaned out my pantry and donated a trunkload to a single mom with 2 kids.

When did you stop feeling tired

I have taken Biotin since before surgery. I can see nothing it has done for me. Losing hair for 2 months now.

When did you stop feeling tired

Every person is different. I have rejuvenated by this surgery and never felt tired. I got out of my recliner 2 days after surgery and have not slowed down. I started shopping and having more lunches with friends. Hopefully sunny weather will life your spirits and make you feel better. Winter dries our skin out. At 5 months out my hair began coming out. I am hoping that stops soon. I was told at 3 months out I was eating too much protein. We all have to find the right balance. My husband and I were told to eat healthy, do not eat 3 meals a day, eat only when hungry. It has worked for us.

Keep us posted on the meetings.
  7. At 67 I was losing the battle of the bulge, with newly diagnosed asthma and diabetes, and the HBP, and knee replacement. Personally I love food, grew up with a Mother in the South who could outcook Paula Deen, and I have been on a "diet" since I was 12 when I was told I had a potbelly. Looking at pictures of myself then, I was thin. But the seed was planted. I love gravy, biscuits, fried food, chicken and dumplings, etc., and in talking with the psychologist we discussed how I equate love with the foods of my childhood. I decided I did not want to spend the rest of my life in a recliner, barely able to walk because of neuropathy. Food simply is not the focus anymore, and my husband's problems were much worse. We drove from Oklahoma to Louisiana today, barely nibbling on food. No more heavy meals. Your life will change forever and I wish you the best!
  8. I am 67 and was at the grocery store 2 days post surgery and 5 days later I walked in the mall a few hours. Piece of cake lol!

    Anyone dealt with Medicare?

My husband and I have Medicare and from the first seminar to surgery was less than 4 months (close to 3). We have diabetes, HBP, asthma, heart stent...... No problem. We had to attend about 3-4 meetings, meet with the psychologist, but it was no time before we were sleeved and moving on!!!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

To the OP- I'm thinking that you may be burned out with this site and need to move on perhaps? My response to that is, IMHO I think this would apply to each and every one who is irritated here. We are all adults. No one made you or me read this thread but lets face it - "for the sweet love of Jesus" Madame Rev reeled us all in LOL!!! None of us had to look but we did. It might be a good idea sometimes to stick to the thread that asks "What flavor of Protein shake is best?", but that bores me to death.

    Something hard coming out :-/

I get it. It is normal. I remember feeling around my incisions. You swell, it hardens, and it heals. But always call your doc if in doubt. Trust your gut instinct, not us humans LOL!

    HELP! Soft food phase diet

You do not say when you had surgery. At 6 months post op my husband and I eat 1 boiled egg or 1 scrambled egg and cannot add anything extra because that fills us up. I would never make a casserole for the two of us and we steer clear of any kind of potato or pasta, and bread, because we do not want to go back to gaining weight. At 5 weeks post op I choked terribly on a small piece of soft crockpot chicken (thought I was having a heart attack), so went two more weeks on soft foods. We have kept our meals simple. No fuss. Tonight we shared ONE Chic-Fil-A asian salad, and could only eat half. I recommend eating a slow, small amount of anything, and see how full you get really fast. I would eat about 2-3 level T. refried beans, with melted Laughing Cow cheese melted, very filling. At 3 months I was told I was eating too much protein and I started substituting more soft veggies, especially zucchini. I did try the turkey meatballs, with a little sauce (barbecue) because dry meats might tend to stick in your chest. You could add a little mushroom soup to simmer them in, with some Worcestershire sauce or spices you like. I relied on a small yogurt every day for breakfast (less than 13 grams of sugar), no lunch, and dinner has always been very light and uncomplicated. BTW, I think my first favorite "food" was a lowfat turkey chili I made for Christmas, as I was craving something a little spicy. Had no problem with that. Best of luck!

    Something hard coming out :-/

If it looks like a bristle or thread its a stitch. If it is a big bulge could be a hernia. When in doubt always call your doctor!!!

    Struggling

Make sure you are getting proper Vitamins also. I am 67 and my husband 66. We were fortunate enough to feel wonderful after surgery )both also had hernias) with few problems. We have had some setbacks since, but I felt like the weight of the world lifted from my shoulders after surgery because of the terrible health problems we had. Six months post op, we are stable. Depression may be a little part of the problem too, because surgery doesn't fix what gets us down in the dumps. Just think weight loss, summer sunshine, and keep doing what the doctors tell you = success! Best wishes everyone!
  15. Post a topic SLEEVE PARTNER WANTED who is having surgery with Dr. ____ in Mexico in (June). Make it happen. As long as you feel good about the surgery and doctor in Mexico you can do this. I know many friends and relatives who have family they refuse to speak to. Sometimes family is who loves you, not blood related! Best of luck!

For the love of sweet Jesus.....

Madam Rev rocks! I only wish I could say it so eloquently. I think under the glossary such as IMHO the initials STALL should be listed with a definition of "an undetermined time period where you don't lose pounds which can start and end from day of surgery til death". Furthermore, I admit this week I am traveling cross country by car, obsessing about my hair falling out but not starting a thread on it (because I have researched it, when the post "Am I DOOMED???" just about sent me over the edge. I apologize but ya know, we are all human. This group is the best thing going and I would not trade any of you! Hello, we share stories of our poop, sex, weight, hormones, men, hair, boobs, plastic surgery. etc. Where else can you be so honest about our lives with complete strangers and not get in a rant or two sometimes. Relax friends, and enjoy Madame Rev because she is the funniest person we have here. Gotta love her!

    Eating more

My husband and I were sleeved 2 weeks apart. Today I eat more than he does. The less you eat the less you want to eat, and vice versa, IMHO. There are days I am busy and barely eat, and when I am sitting around I want to snack. He does not snack and he stays occupied. I have leveled off losing rapidly and he is still losing.

    PLEASE HELP! WLS Nightmare!

So sorry and good luck to you for some resolution. We researched WLS 10 years. It could have gone wrong even after all that. That is why everyone should think long and hard on all these surgeries. I feel so sorry for what you have endured. Praying for you.

    nn

So you can eat refried beans and other protein sources. Nothing wrong with chicken, so why would you be "doomed" - that is just a little dramatic for some so maybe it came across wrong. We are only doomed if we choose to be. This WLS works and there are wonderful people here who can give you excellent guidance. Just ask for advice. Everything is not about eggs and red meat. Do you have a diet plan from your NUT or surgeon? No one doesn't "like" your post, there are just many options out there. At 3 months post op I was told I was eating too much protein. So change your diet. Very simple. Individually we are all different. Besides my hair is falling out and I am preoccupied thinking I might be bald!!!

    help think im dehydrated

When you are sick enough you will go to the ER. Do not rely on strangers to tell you. We are not medical doctors. I vomited 8 hours from taking a medicine and finally I knew I had to go. I was so dehydrated they could not draw blood and I spent the night, admitted, to get IVs and treatment. Trust your gut instinct!!!!!!
  21. The word stall should be banned here because it is used over and over and over. You can and research hundreds of posts here and be prepared that the scale will not move. The scale is in my kitchen and I do not get on it. I could tell early on that even though the scale did not move I was losing inches. The weight we added won't fall off overnight. But the big picture is that 5-8 months out you will be super happy with your progress. Follow your plan, and 071, we all got tired of the things you mention. The plus side is that before you know it this trivial stuff will be history so keep according to plan and the big picture will have you smiling and happy!

    Pureed foods

No thinning the beans. Just warmed them in the microwave with a little Laughing Cow soft lowfat cheese. May 3 Tbsp. eaten at one sitting. You will not be able to eat much at one sitting but it was awesomely delicious! At about 6-7 weeks out I added little drops of medium salsa and mild taco sauce. Spicy has not bothered me thank goodness but I took it slow.

    Sleeve Surgery & Diabetes

Teachamy, she did not specify but I am sure you are right. I will make a point to talk to her again. I was asking questions right and left before surgery trying to find out information, which was scarce. We were very nervous about the surgery because of my husband's bad health.

    Sleeve Surgery & Diabetes

I am Type 2 for a year or so, and came off Metformin at surgery. A1C dropped from 7+ to 5. My husband is Type 2 for 30 years, and his A1C is down from 12 to 6-7. Drastic reduction. He is off Metformin. His insulin dose is very low now. One of our surgeon's nurses had gastric bypass 10 years ago and said she will never come off insulin. I do not know why. I can tell you my husband has had no episodes of low blood sugar since the sleeve 12/2/13. He no longer has to eat a serving of fruit or junk at bedtime to keep from bottoming out unconscious during the night, and I go to bed and sleep soundly knowing I will not have to call rescue to him. This surgery is the best thing we could have done for our diabetes and overall health. He is down 80 lbs since 12/2.

    Back to work?

Everyone is different, for sure, but I had one night in the hospital, one dose of pain med at home, and was shopping at the mall 5 days later for several hours, walking slow. Felt like a million dollars. Just make sure you do not lift anything!
