Frankie, at 3 months post op you should be able to fly to Mexico and have a great time. Have fun!
2. God's Grace and a prayer as you go through this awesome surgery that will change your life in a wonderful way. May the Lord steady the strong and skillful hands of your surgeon, and give you peace, comfort and rest as you recover from surgery.
3. I have seen a lot of people get frustrated here saying everyone is different and there is too much advice and opinions on Bariatric Pal. I think it really must be overwhelming to some people. The same goes with the surgeons and the NUTS, conflicting advice about food, calories and protein. I wanted to give a gentle reminder especially to newbies that when you post a topic you will get lots of opinions, and thank goodness for the help! You read, absorb, and plan your life based on what you think will work best for you. There are some great educated recommendations here, and then, like me, personal advice on how we have muddled through. Without this forum who would we ask? I would be sooooooooo lost, even 7 months post op! Good luck and happy summer everyone!

Too much advice and opinions for newbies?

LOL. Love all the posts. The lively Vets make my day. I admit feeling once "stung" by 2 posters but looking back I can laugh. Like my hubby says, I am OVERLY sensitive. I hate seeing anyone give up here, it makes me feel bad, because where the heck can they go? Nowhere....... They have no idea how much they will be helped here. Hang in there friends. Never give up.
7. I see you are in Pakistan so I am assuming you may not have the choices we have in the US. The labels on the package tells us how many grams of sugar are in the shake. If you don't have the label, you can google the question and get an answer. The whey protein is a good choice. Good luck to you!

Newbie- 3 day post op gastric sleeve

Try drinking liquids that are room temperature if the cold bothers you. Post op for 4 weeks we stuck to broth, FF soup, yogurt, pureed foods, and shakes. At 4 weeks I tried a small piece of soft chicken, choked on it, and stayed on soft food another 2 weeks. Bad experience. Try a different brand of protein shake. My husband liked Bariatric Advantage (milky tasting) and I liked EAS powder from Walmart. The best advice we got from our surgeon was: Do not eat 3 meals a day. Do not eat if you are not hungry. Even today, 7 months post surgery, we eat only when hungry, and we don't have sit down dinners at any certain time.

Right after surgery especially, and still today, burping signalled we had eaten enough. Wonderful little reminder lol. Usually if you eat a small amount, you can walk away and be satisfied. Everyone is different with their weight loss, we have learned that well here. The soreness from the small incisions won't last long, we never needed any pain medicine after 24 hours in the hospital. Good luck!!!!

Baked Beans and other foods...

Instead of spaghetti and the carbs, I recommend chili (not so spicy for the kiddos) made with ground turkey. It was one of my favorite first "meals", and the kidney beans are added protein. I froze small servings in Ziploc bags for easy quick meals. Since it is summer, tuna fish and chicken salad are good options. You can always feed your kids the spaghetti and macaroni but make sure you meal plan for yourself as these type slider foods will hinder your weight loss if you indulge too much. I know it is hard when you have children and a budget. I recommend you always have your "go to" food on hand so you won't be tempted..... You can have a goal to make the who family eat healthier also. Crockpot meals are a lifesaver. The kids can have fun with shredded rotisserie chicken in lettuce wraps. You will be eating limited amounts so just make sure you get your protein in. Best wishes for a happy new life!

Hiatal Hernia

My husband and I both had the hiatal hernia. No problem, no pain after surgery, easy recovery, hardly felt we had any surgery, needed no pain meds after 24 got home (less than 24 hours in hospital). Very common. Best wishes!

You need to be fully informed to decide which surgery to have. Please read everything you can here, and ask your surgeon. Do not rush it. If you meet us next Saturday we can have a group discussion. Please post a question (new topic) here, and ask "Which WLS do you recommend, and WHY?" This might help. There are some smart people on Bariatric Pal!" I will give you my phone number also if you want to call me to talk. Linda
13. I remember at 3 1/2 months trying my first small salad. Loving my salads now. We have eaten healthy, taken supplements, good vitamins and still the hair continues to come out. Just take it slow trying new foods. Small bites and slow chewing are the best advice we received. I finally broke my addiction to Diet Coke, thank goodness!

Hello there! We are gathering a nice little group here. Welcome. Our coordinator, piercedqt78 is trying to assemble us to meet June 28. I have jumped through all those hoops. My husband and I looked at WLS almost 15 years ago, through many seminars. We finally felt comfortable with the sleeve. We are both 67 and life is good. You will find a ton of info here on Bariatric Pal, and please keep up with our little group here! Linda

Pre- Op diet withdrawal!

After sleeving you will be able to eat the cherries and most anything else when you are about 6 months out. Willpower and keeping the bad stuff out of your house will make a difference. I make sure I shop after I have eaten so I am not hungry when I go shopping. That way I do not being things home. My husband and I were both sleeved so it is easier not to have bread, pasta and sweets in the house. I know it would be harder if I had other family members or children in the house. Good luck!

new foods?

My favorite meal is sharing a filet mignon with my husband, with a small salad. We did this twice in the past 3 months. Cost was about $4 for 1 steak. Our go to meal is a salad most nights. Last night I sauteed 2 bags of fresh spinach in 1 tsp. olive oil, with 1/4 cup pine nuts. Found this recipe on the bag of spinach, and it is our favorite.

freak out

My husband and I were sleeved. Diabetes was killing my husband, unconscious during the night, calling rescue, sleep apnea, you name it I could barely breathe because of my weight, asthma, and started on Metformin for diabetes. We both have HBP. I am off Metformin and a HBP med; he is off Metformin, a HBP med, and his insulin is reduced to a minimum amount. The sleeve has given us our life back. Do not wait until your body starts falling apart like ours. The sleeve is the best thing we ever did and would do it again in a heartbeat. It was 10 times easier than we expected with no complications.

I hate this site :(

Personally I do not know where I would be without Bariatric Pal. It is not perfect because we are not perfect. I always say, we have different doctors, different plans, and use common sense. I have asked our NUT questions and she doesn't know, I asked the surgeon's nurse some questions about meds and diabetes, she did not know. Without the support I get here I would be lost. I can only hope I can help someone with the health issues my husband and I have because this can be a scary journey. I tried about 6 FB groups and there was no support there. This is the best we have here thanks to Alex, and I will take the good with the bad, and am learning not to post if I am in a growly mood because I sincerely do not want to hurt someone's feelings. I hope to always be a friend here.
23. Actually JCP I read that in a thread, and it made me realize you cannot trust anyone if you sincerely want your privacy. I worked in a Government building and gossip was the foundation for many years. So glad I am retired LOL.
