    What OTCs do you take?

Feel better Kindle! Glad you are better. I took Lyrica for neuropathy prior to the sleeve. It caused severe blistering of my toes. Very scary.

    What OTCs do you take?

They gave us a prescription of liquid oxcontontin after surgery. That will soothe any pain. But that is a drug I do not ever want to take much of because it is very addictive. So we can take morphine and strong drugs, just not these over the counter things. This is one of the reasons I was upset about a 15 year old whose Mother was here and planned to have her sleeved. Most illnesses we will have can be treated with meds. The gout meds are just horrific in my opinion. There is an oil you warm for ear problems and put in your ear. That might help too. Best of luck.

    What OTCs do you take?

Tylenol for pain. I had a gout problem in my toes from weight loss/too much Protein and have been faced with living in agony or taking meds that I was told would "eat my sleeve". I went to the ER, I went to my PCP, I called my surgeon (not his specialty lol), I went to a Rheumatologist. I was given NSAIDS (by all) we are not supposed to take. The drugs nearly killed me with vomiting and I was hospitalized. I have been fortunate to find a great compound pharmacist who has put me on herbal remedies and made me a believer. I am without pain finally after 5 1/2 straight months. My advice to you is to read everything you can on herbal remedies for the sake of your health. After everything I went through the famed Rheumatologist I went to last month added another (3 total) NSAID. I do not know what is wrong with these doctors frankly, but I am not risking my life with these terrible medicines. I just began Ester-C which is for the immune system. I read about it on BP. Best wishes everyone.

    Swimming after surgery

Ask your surgeon. We could take a shower in a few days so you might be able to get in the pool sooner, without swimming. I can see where strenuous swimming could hurt. I lifted a laundry basket 3 weeks after surgery and had to rest in bed 24 hours with discomfort. We would have been swimming in our pool but it was Nov/Dec for our surgery. We swim every day since March. Might be different if it is a community pool.

    Couple of Questions - Scared

Dexter, surgery/anesthesia is scary for all of us. The biggest scare is morbid obesity where you can die from just being. My husband and I are no longer waiting for the unknown. We are living again and just went on a 7 day cruise. Scared, hell yeah, we both were. Him, from the unknown because of diabetes, me from the unknown and leading us into sleeve surgery, worrying he would die because of me. I will put you in my prayers Dexter.

5 days out since my sleeve surgery 1st bad moment

At 4 weeks we both started out with 1 scrambled egg..... or 1/4 cup cottage cheese or 1/2 small yogurt. One of these was a meal. Eat a little bit of Protein, and you might see that it satisfies you. Or stay on your shakes for awhile, sipping slow. Lots of good choices here. Good luck.

    Surgery same day as husband?

BTW, we had no pain at home, relaxed a day and went shopping. I needed no help whatsoever. It was almost as if I thought they pretended to do surgery on me LOL. Good luck!

    Surgery same day as husband?

My husband and I were sleeved. The doctor recommended 2 weeks between our surgery in case of a problem. I had no problem and was released in less than 24 hours and hardly felt I had surgery. He had a catheter/prostate problem and spent 4 days in the hospital. Went home with a catheter and in a lot of pain. We went in expecting no problem. I just stayed on mushy food 2 extra weeks so everything has worked out great. I have lost 60 lbs, he has lost 90.

    STRICTLY VENTING

Obgyn?? I'm confused! why?? Something I'm missing? Any physician who has been treating you can make a recommendation to another physician or insurance about your weight, co-morbidities, and health problems.

    Terrified

After over 10 years of WL seminars, tons of research, and our health declining terrible, I led my husband into the sleeve process, him looking like a deer in the headlights of pure terror at the final pre-op visit with the surgeon. I said, you are so scared. He agreed. The surgeon said he should be afraid, with all his co-morbidities. I said, but I am afraid he will die without the surgery and the surgeon acknowledged that. We were both sleeved 7 months ago, are down 60 and 90 lbs. Life is not perfect but we both agree we would do this again in a heartbeat. There was no feeling better without something drastic, and little did we know how "undrastic" having the sleeve would be. We never have felt sick, we never had pain, we hardly felt we had surgery, we were out of the house 2 days after surgery, we are off BP, Metformin, asthma and other meds now, and my husband's diabetes is under control for the first time in my 23 years with him. Don't think for a minute I was not afraid, I was scared to death my husband would not make it thru surgery, but more scared he would not live if he didn't. He is the happiest he has ever been right now, and he exudes the confidence of knowing he will never regain this weight. We pretty much eat what we want this day, we just have the tool that keeps us from starving and gorging. food is no longer the focus of living. Maybe you should give yourself an extra month or two, read and research some more. I wish you the very best.

    STRICTLY VENTING

Our wonderful surgeon had a team that made sure all this was done. There were a couple glitches which a followup phone call took care of. Get proactive and talk to the right person in these offices who will get this done for you. Tell someone in your surgeons office your dilemma and see if you can find the help you need. There just is a breakdown here and you can get this train rolling! Good luck!

    Preop Diet...starving!

No gum, mints or hard candy after surgery. If you inadvertently swallowed you would have a terrible problem!!!

I think I maybe having regrets

My husband and I never experienced throwing up. I think we were too scared and cautious to push our sleeves to the limit. I choked on a bite of soft chicken at 5 weeks and went back on pureed 2 more weeks. Are you following he plan? Some foods just don't agree with is I guess, but we have done great. I sure hope this ends soon.
  14. 1. In my case, yes, or eating too fast. 2. panic attack possibly. Nervousness. We never experienced this and I don't see it mentioned much. 3. I am 67 and felt fantastic and shopped 2 and 5 days post op. Can only speak for me and my hubby. Good luck!

    Getting frustrated and down

Please save yourself the stress of clothes shopping for 30+ days after surgery. I felt so horrible before surgery that I refused to go shopping, and wore 4 pair of black slacks over and over with different blouses when I worked. Now I am loving shopping and am tossing my 2x, 1x, 18W, etc. I am in a 12/medium and you will be too one day. I could have never made the zoo trip so I am proud of you. Your life will change forever soon so be patient and love yourself.

    Depression

I come and go. I struggled with depression off and on many years with an abusive 4 year marriage, but today I am 20+years married to the love of my life. Most days I am upbeat and happy, but the depression kicks in. I lost my 30 year old son 8 years ago. I can barely get through November and December. I have taken medication but feel none of it really works except you can overcome it, get your butt moving to Zumba if you are young enough, and smile! Life is what we make it, and we can be depressed fat or thin. Weight loss will not help the depression. Every day I am excited about my new self and my husband. Just know you will be a happier person letting go of the old self. Life is what we make it so get on a happy train and get going! You will not regret having the sleeve I can assure you.

    Starting to be hungry!

You will start losing weight and looking good and it will motivate you, believe me. I have barely bought clothes in 20 years and I am a shopping fool, loving my 67 year old sexy body looking good. I can't wait for you to update on the weight loss and new you!
  19. Hopefully it is just nerves. Bless you today.

Surgery was June 18 My thoughts

Please try to relax and go with the flow. The surgery is scary, we do not know what to expect, we are nervous wrecks thinking something might be wrong, and voila! You will be 7 months out before you know it, thanks to posting here and the gentle help and advice you will get. It will be okay. God Bless.

    Eating all the wrong things

No need for us to judge you. I ate a small piece of soft crockpot chicken at 5 weeks post op and choked. I seriously thought it was a heart attack. I went back on pureed 2 more weeks. You can do the same. I worry you will jeopardize your health. We have choices, Make good ones for yourself and your family. Happy summer!
