    Hair loss

8 months post sleeve. My very blonde very fine and thin hair is now chopped off in an attempt to do what, I do not know. Toppik did not work around my face at all so money down the drain. Biotin for 9-10 months. Taken every Vitamin known to man. Read profusely. Bought 5 wigs. Tiring of visors. Got in the pool tonight and touched the back of my hair and a clump came out. I quit washing and blowdrying constantly since my hair is very dry and I can honestly go two weeks between washing because using no hair spray and gels. I will survive. My husband asked tonight, what IF it doesn't grow back. I replied, then I will just be thinner and bald like you! Keeping the faith......

    I'm the spouse

This is a wonderful place for good information and support! Glad all is well.
  3. Three people beside me and my husband know we were sleeved and it will stay that way because my husband requested it. I am glad because I talk too much. Now I am bound by a promise to him plus I have learned to enjoy not having to discuss my surgery with friends, neighbors and family.

I dont know what "full" is

I don't know if you are a man or woman, and what your surgery was. My husband and I were sleeved so I have 2 perspectives. We were on liquids and pureed foods a month. At 5 weeks I ate an approved piece of soft chicken which stuck mid chest and it was the worst pain ever, and I could not breathe for the panic. Up until then I never felt I even had surgery lol. If you are trying things you shouldn't, you might at some point have a problem like I did. Best to be a little cautious and follow the plan of your surgeon as much as you can. I stayed on pureed foods another 2 weeks after my experience because of fear. It was winter when we were sleeved, so turkey chili was the best thing ever as far as our first "food". I find that if I eat a small portion and get busy doing something, food doesn't even cross my mind for hours. I can go shopping all day without feeling hungry. Hope the "distracting" yourself from food, or for that matter, making sure you are not around food, might work for you. Good luck!

    What I Find Strange is Pre-op ......

I would recommend if something doesn't satisfy you and think you are hungry, just drink a cup of bouillon. We are just used to being hungry and this is a change. Our bodies are so different. I never sweated small stuff, each day there is something new to ponder. My husband and I were both sleeved and we are like night and day in what we eat, drink, feeling hungry, and meal times. Best wishes.
  6. I did this about 6 weeks post op, brunch with a friend who also did not know I had the sleeve, and I had a cup of seafood bisque. I remember being nervous, and I could not eat it all, just said I am just not very hungry. The friend barely noticed, and now it is a distant memory and we had a great time.
  7. There are so many variables with different ages, weights, body size, doctors, etc. that it can boggle the mind. If you focus on what your doctor tells you, and listen to your body (such as burps post op signal hello, I am full, lol), then magically we all end up at the same place = weight loss! My husband and I eat differently, different foods and meal times. I would say I eat more than him, but he has lost more weight. Great journey, and good luck everyone!

    I'm the spouse

How about insisting he come in to see the doc since you are still not satisfied all is okay? We had no drainage and we were both sleeved. It may be normal but surgery is scary. You have the right to say we would feel better if the surgeon would just take a look. Best of luck!!!

    Calling All Sixties!

Shersun, most of the time in this heat I am wearing a visor, which hides my hair except for the top of my head. I only wear the wig if I am going someplace indoors. The visor and the wig are my lifesavers.

    Calling All Sixties!

Started Biotin in November, had sleeve November 18, 2013. Hair loss started April 2014. I cannot tell if there is new growth. I slowed down on washing/coloring, blowdrying my hair so as not to add more stress on it. I finally had to buy a wig as I am very fair and blonde and the loss is around my face. I bought a Gabor wig and get lots of compliments. I am very vain about my hair. I would say make sure you play around in a wig salon somewhere so you do not end up in a bind at some point. I could rant on and on, but I love my new self so I am making do. I hear now that Biotin only helps re-growth but I was not told this by anyone at surgery. I bought Toppik powder (read about it online). It does not work for me whatsoever. Thank God for my wig!

    Time Off Work

I was at the grocery 2 days after the sleeve, and the mall 5 days later, shopped 4-5 hours I easily could have worked, but newly retired. I recommend no lifting as you will be told, for sure!!!! I am 67. Wow, I can tell you the sleeve was 10 times easier than expected. Good luck. Sincerely!
  16. Yes but we know our bodies so there is no point in worrying about what people think.

Suggestion: Can we have a "Stalls" subforum?

Why would you want to read about stalls over and over? Use the time to get moving and do something constructive and don't obsess over your weight stalling. Actually I cannot even imagine there is anything to discuss there. It is what it is.

    15 and scared! help?

I have suffered hair loss 2 months. I have been wearing a wig and a visor. I would not use extensions because it would attach to my hair and probably pull it out. I have used Biotin and excellent products, and excellent Vitamins. My hair is very blonde so the Toppik powder has not worked for me as the hair loss is around my face also. Maybe it is the luck of the genes but you might as well beware of what can happen. I am considering some scarf tricks now. I just cut three inches off my shoulder length hair . I wish you good luck!

    FL - Jacksonville

I have not heard from our coordinator through Bariatric Pal so maybe something came up. Mandy, can you tell us what is going on? I am sure something came up. I went ahead and made other plans tomorrow. I am leaving Monday for a family reunion in West Virginia for a week. Please hang in there friends and maybe later this month we can work something out. I really want to meet you all and get together. In the meantime I will check emails and messages here. We can do this! Linda (piercedqt78)

    Salads?

Three months after the sleeve my NUT said I was eating too much Protein. Told me to start immediately on salads and veggies. I was nervous (or terrified), but eating salads every day since without any problem, even raw carrots and raw celery.

    I knew I shouldn't have said anything!

It was my very honest husband who convinced me what I do is no one's business and I do not have to share. He is a private person, and I am a blabbermouth. Since he asked me not to tell people, even his 31 y/o son, I have kept quiet. Very thankful because I am sick and tired of people just discussing my weight loss, and they do not know about the surgery, which I do not want to discuss surgery anyway with people. I just want to yell, change the subject!

    Baked Beans and other foods...

I was scared to try lettuce. Then at the 3 month visit with the NUT she said I was eating too much Protein and chided me to eat salads. Went home and eating a salad a day now and loving it! You might want to try a slice of cucumber, tomato, or a tablespoon of lettuce because if you are close to 2 months out you might can do it easily. Choking on a piece of soft chicken at 5 weeks post sleeve made me terrified to try new things. Cole slaw is one of my favorite small sides, especially eating out.

    Baked Beans and other foods...

I can totally put the tuna in a lettuce leaf and be happy. Bread no longer lives in my house. I try not to think about it. Out of sight out of mind lol!
