Taste for food - will it come back?
LindafromFlorida replied to Wynnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 8 months out, and my husband. I am hungrier than he is. He has lost 100 lbs but he is 6'2 and was 320. I am 5'4 and was ?220. My best advice for months has been eat before you leave home, eat before you shop. I took the 13 y/o grandson for a hamburger yesterday and I bought a small chicken nugget order. I came home and got on BP and realized I did this without thinking, because I was hungry. I have gained 7 lbs because of this stupidity. Plan better than I have. I am back on track LOL! -
Dr. Jalil Illan with Baja Bariatrics and Omar Acosta - A Warning

Like I previously said. There are many, many more, many who will never come forward. They are married, afraid, have children, embarrassed, and have seen the abuse here. Why in hello would they put themselves in this arena. Whoever you are, at least contact Susan. You never have to go public, just talk to someone. God Bless. -
Taste for food - will it come back?
LindafromFlorida replied to Wynnie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, it will come back with a vengeance. Make plans for how you will deal with it, how you will exercise, and how you will overcome it and keep on the right path. Good luck and it is doable. Just read the success stories! -

Goodbye. Now can we focus on possibly a forum that is a must read women, maybe a magazine article (for starts) from a man's perspective, Alex Brecher? To warn of inappropriate behavior, traveling out of country, women seeking approval and attention and getting the wrong kind? I remember posting with a sweet lady with no car who lived on a farm, with an inattentive husband. Not everyone is worldly or smart to the ways of the world here. -

I have great grandkids. I have no kids. I did not reference you to Ted Bundy. I referenced people did not believe Bundy could be a bad person. You have decided in your non professional schoolteacher experience that Omar is wonderful because he did not seduce or try to seduce you. Hmmm. I do not live in lala land. I live in the real world of police, crime, law enforcement, judicial system, defense lawyers, criminals and victims, and I know that when this many women come forward there is a problem. Why don't you go do something while we support Susan and these women. I do not know Susan or anyone else here. I am just smart enough to know Bariatric Pal is about SUPPORT. SINCE YOU DON'T SUPPORT SUSAN AND HER THREAD, LEAVE. -

Ted Bundy had many friends and defenders too. You should have an open mind while this is sorted out. -
5 days before spouse WLS... help. What do you wish you had known before?
LindafromFlorida replied to ErinAZ's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Erin, I have seen myself as the ultimate caretaker of my husband until he has gently confided to me before the sleeve that I might want to go back to work and leave him be. LOL. True! I did not take offense but I realized how I hover over him like a nut. I think my instincts come from calling rescue in the middle of the night for 23 years (diabetes), and I feel he will "die" if I am not hovering. It feels good not feeling he is my baby boy and can feed his old self! -

WHO IS "WE"? Are you Omar's Mom, sister, lover, friend, or defender? "His charges are "benign". What is "benign"? A wart, a cyst or a malignant tumor? Oh, it was a felony. 50 miles north it would not have been a felony? You know an awful lot about this man. Can you reveal your real connection to him? I think women should have fear in their hearts and thanks to Susan maybe they will look twice at any doctor or his staff before they put their life in someone's hands. As far as you being in the Washington education system I would not like you in charge of my children. -

Let's face it, you can find romance at the corner bar in the USA. I think the point is that this man is part of the medical establishment and is involved with not one, but probably many woman, probably hundreds if the truth be known. For these women I don't care if they want to have a liaison if they want (their business). What bothers me is there is a pattern here of this man preying on women. This is his job. And his hobby obviously. -

I can be pretty lively, fun and flirtatious at my senior age, and even being happily married I certainly know how to make cougar jokes with my many friends and act raucous. We can act crazy as teenagers. What does that have to do with a man named Omar preying on women? -
Crab cakes. I use 1 container (17 grams Protein, 0 carbs) of the refrigerated claw meat, add one egg, squeeze of lemon juice, tsp. worcester sauce, finely diced celery and onion, salt & pepper, tsp. of Old Bay seasoning, tsp. of hot sauce. Just stir ingredients and make small patties. Take i tsp. olive oil and spread in teflon skillet and lightly brown on each side. So simple and easy. Meatloaf. Use ground turkey or 90% lean ground beef. I would say for 1 lb. ground meat, add about as much (about 3/4 cup) chunky Salsa (the more the better). You have to keep adding Salsa until you can still form a meatloaf. This is the only meatloaf I have ever liked. You can make mini meatloaves in muffin pans. Cook them and freeze for a quick thaw meal later. Rotisserie chicken - for chicken salad. I add chicken, boiled egg, lowfat mayo, ground nutmeg, salt & pepper, diced celery, and about 1/4 cup canned crushed pineapple (in juice). Nutmeg is the key to a great taste. Have fun!

I'm the spouse
LindafromFlorida replied to Swampyspouse's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I would recommend keeping things simple in the household. I remember being overwhelmed following two of us being sleeved 2 weeks apart, and a calendar with dates for meal changes. Thank goodness for yogurt, broth, popsicles and Soups during the worst times of worry. Once you reach the eating phase, a rotisserie chicken can work wonders in meal planning for the WL person and other family members. Homemade lowfat turkey chili, meatballs, and mini meatloves made in the muffin pan were great and easy, plus easy to freeze and defrost for quick meals. I think the greatest indulgence at about 2-3 months post sleeve, was sharing a small filet mignon, stovetop seared, at a cost of about $4.50. At 8 months out, we still share the filet. Very cost effective for a WLS patient. I too love Bariatric Pal and sharing our experiences. -
Just hang in there and possibly check your scale's accuracy. Sounds awful but I would have taken diarrhea over chronic constipation - I have a cabinet full of meds that did not work. Trust your body and go to the doctor if your gut instinct says something is wrong. Hang in there and the weight will come off, I promise.

You need to be banned. I am not a worker. I need no power trip. I am a grandmother who worked in the Court system 44 years and I know right from wrong. Why do you not leave if you do not like Bariatric Pal? I think you have a real agenda here. I do not know what it is but something smells. -

We're making approximately $1.25 from the total page views this topic will end up reaching (I kid you not.) It's much more personal for me. It's not about the $. Truth needs to be told and I won't allow bullies to shut up the victims. There are 6 cases we know of. There are most likely 50+ over the last few years that we're not aware of. Alex, as a 68 year old woman I applaud you for not shutting down this thread. If it offends some one they should quit looking. There is a story here that needs telling. There is not a person here who is without bad judgment and mistakes in their lives. Not ONE and certainly not me. Those who go to Mexico must be warned about this man, there is too much smoke here. If this man, God forbid, is HIV positive (and with his history God only knows what he can possibly be spreading), you might save one person from it by this thread. I hope common sense overtakes the ridiculousness of some of these rants, that the point is to warn women that a predator is in Mexico in sheeps' clothing. -
pjb we do not know what you are eating or what is going on from your post. You may have a bad scale. I am more worried about your distress and pain than pounds, Did you find out what is wrong????????? What are you eating at this stage?

How do I help my significant other understand why I want this?
LindafromFlorida replied to readyforitall's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ready, I have read "your story" on here so many times. You are like us, so many of us have been overweight and fought the battle like you. I cannot help with your significant other but just want to say I wish you the best. What you need to focus on is YOUR health. There are lots of men who love large, beautiful, happy overweight women (and vice versa), but is your health suffering because of the weight? If not yet, it will be. Get your boyfriend to a group meeting. Get him involved. Best of luck. -
5 days before spouse WLS... help. What do you wish you had known before?
LindafromFlorida replied to ErinAZ's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband and I were both sleeved. He eats what he likes, and I eat other things. I keep the fridge stocked for both of us. He eats one meal a day, I snack. I think if you make sure your husband's approved foods are on hand, you need to let him be. If you cook, cook healthy and it will benefit you both. I do not chide my husband when I see him at a family reunion, eating a dessert (recently) though I want to scream because of his diabetes. But I gave him a kiss. He has lost 100 lbs with no help whatsoever from me. It takes backing off sometimes instead of being a caretaker because we are only accountable to ourselves. I will tell you this, for sure, I have sometimes been angry and emotional since my surgery (more than usual lol). I hope you don't worry about too many - what ifs - take one day at a time, and we are always your sounding board and moral support. Best wishes, Linda -

Vacation; things to eat
LindafromFlorida replied to NikkiMoore's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Almost 4 weeks out? Be very careful. I choked on a small piece of soft chicken at 5 weeks, and stayed on pureed 2 more weeks. You can do anything you want Nikki, but I recommend sticking to soft foods, such as bisque, yogurt, string cheese to nibble, a scrambled or boiled egg, refried Beans, etc. You can always add unflavored Protein powder to yogurt, or better yet, take a few Premier Protein shakes and you are good to go. They will satisfy you and you will not have time to worry about eating. Pack a small cooler with your go to foods. I could not eat lettuce until 3 months post surgery and love the salads now. You will be amazed that food will not be the focus of your vacation! Have fun! -
I just changed up to a new Vitamin and added an Iron supplement. Hopeful!!!

Tammy, I have been on fish oil for 10 years. Thanks, I am hoping for a change real soon!!!!!!!

There are a lot of posts here, you can search through. I thought Biotin prevented hair loss, and found out at 5 months post op it is supposed to help re-growth. I can see nothing it has done for me. I have been losing hair at 5 months post op to the present, 8 months. I have very blonde hair. I have had to buy a wig. Better to be informed and I sincerely hope you have better luck than I have.
