Social Life - Need Help from Veterans!

Thank goodness for the humor and love here. It is a happy place I love to visit every day just to see Madame Rev and LipstickLady in action. It is 6:16 pm, and I just poured a glass of wine for medicinal purposes.

I'll call malarkey on this. Living proof right here. Thank God LipstickLady! I read that post and said Noooooooooo! I hate to give up my wine! It is my source of fun.

    Always eating

My husband eats one meal a day. At three months we were told to stop the shakes. I usually have yogurt for Breakfast. No lunches here. Tonight we will share a filet mignon and some green Beans. A piece of lowfat cheese if we get hungry during the day. I don't even cook anymore. I just try to keep certain things in the fridge to snack on if we get hungry. As you get further out you won't be doing so many mini meals. We are seriously trying to curtail the eating since it is now harder to lose weight. Good luck.

    Slow losers unite

Thank you for sharing your story. I hope it helps others (not letting constipation get the best of you). As I write this my hair is so thin I have to wear a wig when I leave home. My skin is sagging, my face is more wrinkled, but I love it anyway! Yummymummy32, most of us have experienced at least part of what you are going through. Make sure you seek medical help for the problems you are having. My husband and I were sleeved, and we can go out to dinner and pretty much do everything we want to except stuff our faces with french fries and other garbage. I sincerely hope things get better for you, and I believe it will. Here's a hug, Linda

Social Life - Need Help from Veterans!

Not sure where you get you have to wait 5 minutes between bites...... We were both sleeved and kept it to ourselves. At 6 weeks I went to lunch with a friend, and ordered a bisque for lunch, and grilled fish. Needless to say I could not finish the bisque or the water and decided to take the fish home lol. I focused on fun and talking and food was not the point. We have similar social situations. Groups, dance/social club, dinners, neighbors and friends. We did this in Nov and Dec, and our story was we were dieting (true), and were not drinking (true). Everyone accepted this, and within 3-4 months could see our weight loss and were impressed. Now we go to the social dance club again, and skip the steak dinner and food events. We go out to eat with friends, and share a meal. My husband has taught me to accept this way of life and not give a rats patootie what anyone thinks. We have the neighbor get togethers and have snacks that are lowfat, and nibble as they all know we were on this diet to get healthy. Your friends will be proud of you also and accept this, that you are not going back to your old ways. Somehow you will work this out. We did and it has not been a problem. We have traveled a lot, a 10-day car trip, and my husband lost 10 lbs! We were visiting relatives. We went on a cruise and ate sensibly. We are 8 months post surgery. Just go with the flow and you can do this. My best advice is just eat slowly and relax and have fun. My husband and I shared a reuben last night, minus the bread, and brought 1/2 of it home. If you plan events such as a small buffet type dinner at your home, you can flit around and no one will notice you are not stuffing yourself. We are going on pretty much the same as always now. Just eating a lot less food and motivated to keep these new bodies. Good luck!

    Calling All Sixties!

Hi Gibble! I am 68, Hair loss for at least two months now, or more. I started Biotin before surgery, over 8 months ago. I hear it helps with regrowth but i see nothing it has done for me. Maybe if I did not take it I would be bald? LOL. I buy it at vitacost and just take one pill a day. Good luck!

    Hair loss

depizzi I think you took this the wrong way and responded not so nicely. We are all here to share what we have been told and what we learned, That is all Bufflehead was doing. Lets always be respectful.

    Kidney stones

I had a kidney stone at age 18 with terrible surgery, and never another one. No one could tell me why I got one. I know more men than women who have had stones. Not sure it was from the sleeve. Thank God for laser surgery on them today, but it is the worst pain on earth.
  10. Thank you to BP for allowing us to proceed here. No matter the disagreements, this needs to be aired.
  11. BTW Bwhite, you had sooooooooooooo much fun with Omar as you say. Have you had your HIV test yet?
  12. Darn - are you Mastrata or whoever she is with a different ploy? This is getting utterly ridiculous. Omar, is this you? This is making me SICK, THE ABSURDITY OF IT.

    FL - Jacksonville

I hope everyone is doing well. I went to West Virginia on July 2 and had a nice trip. I am hoping we can get together soon. Let us all hang together and keep posting until we can have a meeting. Linda
  14. BTW Mastrita, are you being paid by anyone to come here and defend/throw smoke/attack Susan and these women for this front man for Mexican surgeons because they (Mexican surgeons) have a lot financially to lose here if women are warned? Bariatric Pal members have a lot of influence, and if it were not for that Omar would probably still be scouting. Now he is having to troll the cantinas probably. Maybe you really live in Mexico, and are not really a teacher in the US. I would not believe a thing you say. I know you will not respond to this because you have now turned off the thread and your email notification. You will never stop lurking here because you are reporting to Mexico.
  15. I would recommend friend that you make sure you have eaten food prior to the meds. Most meds have this warning. As one who ended up in the hospital from meds on an empty stomach, I would rather you be cautious and not go there. There is plenty of room for a pill and food. Be safe and be cautious!
  16. You will never give up defending Omar. Susan is NOT on trial. We are discussing a man in Mexico where people go for surgery. Goodbye a second time, Mastrita. If I knew as much as you know about Omar's love life, work history, criminal history, poor Omar who is not a saint but has had a problematic life, made bad choices (I don't know these things about my neighbor of 20 years for God's sake), there would be a reason I knew all this about poor Omar, just sayin'. Now it is your email's fault you came back to say the same repetitive things.

    Grazing

If it is in your house you are likely to graze. Thank goodness I have no kids around. I know this is not for everyone, but our surgeon told us "Do not eat 3 meals a day. Eat ONLY when you are truly hungry." My husband eats one meal a day, very small at that, and has a piece of cheese during the day, and lots of Water. He has lost 100 lbs. and is not hungry. I eat more than him, and I do get hungry, and I try to keep busy to stay out of the kitchen. We have been sleeved 8 months. Our bloodwork is great, we are both off Metformin and 1 BP pill each, and a couple other meds. Jewells, the best time to eat healthy is now for you, because the longer you are sleeved the more you can and will eat. In the first few months my husband sipped a lot of salt-free broth. I wonder if you might want to try this Jewells. Good luck!
  18. Mixing the beads in the antacid capsule on a teaspoon of applesauce, cottage cheese or yogurt, there is no taste if you swallow them quickly. We have taken many meds since being sleeved, just taking it slow. I would guess I take 10 pills a day, my husband also. I did go to a liquid Vitamin a few months but have been back on the big multi Vitamin A few months.

Post Op diet- Pureed phase right away?

I would say whatever you do, please be cautious. 6 weeks after surgery I was told to go to soft chicken, etc. I made crockpot chicken with FF soup, etc. I choked on a small piece of soft chicken, and seriously thought I would have to call rescue (except I could not talk), as the chicken lodged in mid chest with excruciating pain. You will not be very hungry during this time so a couple teaspoons refried Beans will really fill you up. I think one of my favorite foods was a turkey chili I made, it just soothed my tastebuds with a little kick of seasoning, not too spicy. Also, a good idea is to add Protein powder to cream Soups. There are many people and we all have made it through these different plans of our surgeons, and you will too! Best wishes!

    Quest Protein Bars

I bought a box plus a variety pack on Amazon in February, and just recently gave them to a friend for her teenagers. I could barely eat 1/4 of one, just too dense for me. We are 8 months post op, and I still have 2 but I know they will not be eaten. I would just recommend you do not buy a lot like I did. Definitely could be a trigger food if you like sweets.

Annoyed by hunger / need to vent

A week after the sleeve, about 5 days actually, I went to the mall and walked slowly for several hours. Please find something to do to get your mind off food. Sit on a stool, clean out drawers, just occupy your mind. Then I promise you won't be concentrating on stomach noises. We all have them. I did things like sort through hundreds of photographs, made a new recipe book for my sleeve foods, researched the internet ones. I also walked slowly in the grocery, reading labels. You just have to get yourself up doing something and it will make a difference. I even enjoyed putting a chair in my closet and going through those fat clothes I knew I would never wear again. It was so much fun letting go of them. Watch some funny moves, just do something! Best wishes and I hope you have a good weekend. Keep us updated, the best s yet to be, I promise! Linda
  22. The hardest thing for me is walking in the kitchen for 1 meal a day and asking my hubby (sleeved too), what do you want for dinner? He says "I am good, I will take care of it". Tonight we had fresh sauteed Florida sea bass, no room for anything else. Had to savor that fresh seafood. Will push for a small serving of veggies tomorrow! So many options, so little food needed! I LOVE THIS! It is hard, LOL!
  23. I know this my LipstickLady friend, and yet...... I chose the cute little nuggets. But No more. I solemnly vow to never again go through a drive thru - even drove to Kansas from Florida and back, no weight gain. Gained 4 lbs. on a 7 day cruise, and lost it immediately. I am blessed to be old and retired. I got off track when my NUT said I was eating too much Protein, and I got gout in both big toe joints. I am going back to 1/2 filet mignon, fish, tuna, and more protein and a little exercise as I can, and I should see a difference. Cowgirl Jane posted some good pointers last night that opened my eyes. Sometimes we think we are on point and then duh! Not! Thanks for the help, LipstickLady, we all need it. As you can see Wynnie, we are all helped here. Best of luck. Linda

Is the sleeve safe long term?

My question for you would be, if you do not have the sleeve, are diabetes, HBP, joint replacements, asthma, heart problems, (get my drift) safe long term? My husband and I are 68 and now we have all these co-morbidities. We went to seminars so many years ago and were so afraid of surgery. It took our health failing terribly to get us sleeved. Good luck and hope you live to be a very ripe old age!!!!!
