Governor Chris Christie and the Lap-Band
Tikvah replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think a lot of people don't understand that losing 100 pounds for someone like the people on My 600lb Life is not the same as someone who is 250lbs. Thats why the doctor scolds his patients who are constantly under performing on their end. I mean, anyone and everyone should be commended for losing weight, with or without surgery, but his results fall outside the wanted results for almost any surgeon. -

Not very supportive Tikvah. As just about everyone else said, a 100 pound loss is not failure. I am not trying to pretend to be supportive to someone who is not even on this forum. They even talked about this on CNN at one point after the doctors report for the last primary said Christie was not a viable candidate in 2012 due to his morbid obesity. I will guarantee any amount of money that Christie's political consultants said "Hey bubba, we need to get you slimmed down if you want to run and be a viable candidate in 2016". A MALE serious about losing weight with weight loss surgery should definitely do better than 100lbs in their first year when they are north of 350lbs. Now, I understand why females are more outraged at my comments, as I know losing the weight with surgery is still a slower process than for men. -

If I would've started at 420 and only lost 100lbs (8 lbs/month) in a year, I would consider that a failure. I've already lost 69 pounds since surgery, and that has only been 2 months and started off about 40lbs lighter than him. -

I think he got surgery just because of politics. I doubt he'll stick to a diet (he should've lost more than he already has) after the next election cycle in 2016. -
Cranberry and Vodka is always a good standby. If its not too sugary, I like pineapple juice and various liquors pre-op (I don't drink anymore).

Yeah, my Rabbi said they are definitely not Jews (unless Jews by Halacha), and are a sect of Christianity. I also consider myself to believe in the Reform tenants. I go to a conservatively ran Reform shul.

Yeah, I wouldn't personally eat nori myself in the form of a hand roll. Too hard to chew and digest for me. But in a I/O roll, it wasn't too bad because it was cut.

Be easy with the guac. Its extremely high calorie.

I ate 4 pieces of a spicy tuna roll without issue at about 5 weeks. My sleeve is made of steel though, I've yet to encounter an issue.

Multivitamin + Calcium Supp .5oz Peanuts lunch 4.5oz chicken Breast shake n Bake Original Chicken 1/2 Tbsp Ken's Honey Mustard dinner 4oz Chicken Breast from Roasted Chicken (no skin/bone) 5 Honey Gold mini potatoes roasted in the pan with chicken 615 Calories 36g Carbs 17g Fat 75g Protein I'll probably add a snack to that at some point in the day. -

Yeah, if those numbers calculated by BH are correct, I'd change it up. I always track my food because it is impossible to be sure of what you are ingesting without it. I'm between 600-700 a day currently and around 75-80g Protein (no shakes). Sleeved 12/18. p.s. I was advised to never take calories in via liquid (unless its a shake) as they are almost always empty calories. Might want to check those coffees for their caloric values. -
Are you weighing yourself everyday? If so, there are always fluctuations. Weigh yourself once every 1-2 weeks, the same day and time, every time.

I have pickles every time I go eat Jewish Deli. I love some sour and half sour pickles! Have yet to have an issue with food since surgery.

Do people actually count "Messianic Jews" as actual Jews? (unless they are Jewish by halacha, of course) Not being able to eat brisket, knishes, or challah is starting to grate my nerves!!

my 600 pound life-pennys story
Tikvah replied to katt1584's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If she has a severe food addiction, then she shouldn't have qualified for the surgery. She should have needed intensive psychotherapy prior to even being a candidate. Needed more support? She had all the support of her doctor and the hospital staff. She refused to change and had her husband smuggle her food. She was not serious about doing this process correctly. Most people were extremely agitated because not only is she 600lbs and squandering a great opportunity to get some semblance of a life back, but she's also on disability and government assistance. So we're the ones paying for those fried freaking wontons and cupcakes she gorges on. I've got all the sympathy in the world for the members of this forum, but that woman should be named and shamed. -

All I could do after watching that show (and to keep from throwing a brick at my TV) was to thank Hashem for blessing me with parents that love me and would never enable me like her husband. If I tried lying to my doctor like that, they'd call my butt out! This is why psych exams are so important. The husband should stop bringing food to her (other than her 1200 calories a day) and make her get her butt up. -
I don't understand why people who get diagnosed with sleep Apnea don't use a CPAP/BiPAP when prescribed. Why didn't you use it?

Blenders? Are they all the same?

My mom got a ninja a year or so ago. I like it. -
Katt, I just had surgery on 12/18. I'm 25 and was 383 a week before surgery. I don't think you need to worry that much, they will give you blood thinner shots generally to keep you from clotting (and compression booties!). Get it done, it'll be the best thing that ever happened to you.

Anyone have such an easy time that it made you nervous? When does FULL feeling kick in?
Tikvah replied to staceyp's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeah, I can relate to OP. I am 4 weeks out and have been doing solids very easily (chicken thigh and breast meat, chili, cold cuts (chicken and turkey), bariatric foods of different sorts, peanuts, flatout pizza (yum! gamergirl rocks!), shrimp, etc. I was kinda worried that my surgeon had forgot to do the surgery due to my crazy recovery. Liquids aren't a problem (I still go slowly, but thats due to incorporating habits I learned immediately post-op). I definitely can recognize when my stomach says "no mas". Else I get slimed, and no one likes that! -
I just want to know how you're measuring your bodyfat, because that is ridiculous. Unless you are doing Hydrostatic Body Composition Testing or at the very minimum, a BodPod, I wouldn't believe that at all.

2 months out and may be starting to develope an eating disorder?

Almost all colleges that I've heard of have clinical or counseling psychologists on staff at their students disposal. -
Omg, I am having dreams about cheating on my diet :(

If you subscribe to Freud, dreams are the royal road to the subconscious. Be ever vigilant and aware in the coming weeks.
