I work in a small office and the whole thing played out very oddly but in the end all was well. I could not imagine not telling them as time off for surgery and then a large weight loss would cause great concern. Just as I was sure when surgery would be a girl in the office was fired (in the end I am so very thankful for that because she would have been problematic) Because we were short staffed I was asked directly if I expected to need any time off ...and so..out it came! My boss could not have been more supportive.

I have only tried the pumpkin spice and while I would not call it chalky, it is very very sweet. -

I am approaching the pre-op diet exactly the same way. I do not want my body to be shocked. I have been cutting calories down and getting very friendly with shakes. It seems that I am also getting more comfortable with feeling a little hungry. Good luck.

Surgery is scheduled for Nov 13th! This past weekend I had one of those social days...birthday for the grandson and grand opening at..of all things..a hot new restaurant where my son is chef de cuisine. Ohhh baby! I enjoyed the family and the company and basically ate half of what I normally would and skipped the cake. I was simply "aware" and it was the most fabulous day! -

Denial of sleep study
I Am Resolute! replied to Phillys1stlady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They send a small light weight package and instructions for you to put the monitors around your middle..and breathing mointors as well as an oxygen minor for your finger. They also call you to discuss before you use it and have a check for you to see if it was effective before you sent it back. You sleep and thats it. It is easily packaged back in the box and returned. One thing ...and this is after you get a cpap...is that it is monitored by a cell modem and they would call me every week with stats....you used it this many hours..this average....how can we help you? There is also a small data card in the machine that records all use, and how effective it is. Yyou can pop it out and bring it to the dr. with you. -

I did the home study with Sleep Solutions. They have a good system and it wasn't complicated. Someone delivered my machine and gave me a lesson. I did need to go to my Dr. and have him fuss with the settings.. ...all in all, it was fine. -

What to tell work?
I Am Resolute! replied to Kay York's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I did not say anything at work until I was ready. It so happened that about 2 weeks prior to the time that I expected to bring this forward a staff member left and we were asked pretty directly about any future time off that we had planned. I chose to be up front, we are a small office and "surgery" followed by a large weight loss could cause some real concern. By serendipity my manager had spent time the previous weekend speaking with a former co worker who had had gastric bypass and had a very good and healthy understanding of the process. I found that I am well supported and feel every so much better to have it out in the open. I believe "timing is everything". -

Waiting for final approval and scheduled at this point for Nov 13th! -
Thanks ladies for your honesty...I can't wait to find out what changes, and how often!

I have MVP and it had to be consecutive months. I still go monthly because if something fouls up I do not want it to be an additional set back. I began this process April 4, 2013 and surgery is scheduled for November 13, 2013

Post -Op time off work?
I Am Resolute! replied to IndigoChild's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am planning 3 weeks and have a desk job with no required lifting. If I feel great I will go back earlier. 12 hour days sound very long! -
Keep us posted. It is the part that I am dreading because when I get hungry I get crabby! They have threatened at work to isolate me to my own floor. One day this will all be just a memory. Hang in there!

It is part of our pre-op training not to people get us down. I told people very slowly..one at a time. I work in a small office and did not want them to worry knowing that I had had "surgery"...and then lost alot of weight. It seemed kinder to be honest. I have gotten all of the support I could have hoped for! There are those that I will not tell, and I am good with that

I am waiting for approval as well. Mr. Dr. has requested authorization for VGS rather than bypass because he feels it will be best for me. The only way to go is positive! Good luck! I hope to meet you again in the post surgery forums!
