Brachioplasty (arm lift)- how soon to return to work?
Superfluous posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
Long story short, I am very limited in the time I can take off of work. I sit at a desk and work on the computer all day. What is the recovery like? How quickly can I return to work? -
Is there an Illinois, non-Chicago area group?

For those who have had skin removal surgery- how much weight was lost due to removal?
Superfluous posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Just wondering how much one can expect to lose just from having all that skin gone. -

Reaching goal weight vs. skin removal
Superfluous posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm not to my goal weight yet but I was wondering how one determines when it's a good time to have skin removal surgery and how that impacts ones' weight. By the I mean, as I get closer to goal I am losing weight more slowly, of course, but part of my wonders if I *can* get to goal weight or if some of the weight is excess skin. Thoughts? -

Scared to Death for Post Op
Superfluous replied to Docgerri's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I experienced nausea after my surgery and was scared to death that I was going to vomit. But I never did vomit.... Even a year later, I've not thrown up once. -

Emotional Eaters.....How are you coping?

I have been working with a counselor who specializes in eating disorders since before my surgery and that has helped a lot! -
Three Weeks Without Weight Loss
Superfluous replied to StJimmy's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I recently went through the same thing- 3 weeks hovering around the low 250's. I'm taking in about 1000 calories a day and 45-60g of Protein. I work out 3-5 times per week. Finally, this week, the scale finally started moving. What did I do differently? Nothing, really. Plateaus like this are totally normal. That said, your calorie intake seems very high to me. -
Ghrelin ? Still hungry?
Superfluous replied to Llunker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on the person. Until I went back to work, 2 weeks after surgery, I really didn't feel hunger. Now I do, pretty regularly. The good news is, the sleeve helps me make better food choices and, of course, it greatly limits my overall food intake. -
FMLA and doctor's release to return to work - HELP!
Superfluous replied to elenasal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was worried about the same thing as well but my surgeon's office was able to complete the paperwork without being specific about the kind of surgery I was having. Also, the reasons for FMLA leave should be confidential, regardless. -
4 Things I Wish I Would've Known Pre Op
Superfluous replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
YAY! It's so exciting to be able to reply to this thread on the OTHER side! I am only 4 weeks out and my journey, so far, has been pretty smooth. Here are the things I wish I knew: - I wish I knew how TIRED I was going to be for about 2 weeks following surgery. I'm just now starting to feel like my old self again. - I wish I had known how important it is to have someone to share my NSVs with! People who have never been seriously overweight just don't get how exciting it can be to wear a shirt you tucked away in the back of your closet 5 years ago, or to take a bath and FIT in the tub! - This is something I actually knew, but I see others struggling with this so I wanted to share it here: how important it is to work with a counselor or therapist about food issues before AND after surgery. The psychological eval most of us have to have is cursory, at best. And we didn't get to these weights because we loved food. We have food issues. Some of us have eating disorders. And this is stomach surgery- not brain surgery! Working with my counselor in the months leading up to surgery and now, after surgery, has made this transition SO MUCH EASIER! -
I have to have a bunch of preop testing, including an upper GI. I'm not familiar with this. Can someone who's had one tell me more?

January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I start my preop diet on the 15th- high protein, low cal shakes and puddings only, no actual food. I am NOT looking forward to that! -

Could be worse- I have 2 weeks! -
I met with my surgeon today and I liked him a lot! He spent at least an hour with me, which I was surprised about. Surgeons are usually so damn arrogant you are lucky if they make eye contact! Anyway, everything gets submitted to my insurance tomorrow and the waiting begins. I hope it doesn't take long to hear back!

Tell me about upper GI
Superfluous replied to Superfluous's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I had one done years ago. They spray numbing spray in your nose so you don't feel much. It was a bit uncomfortable but not painful at all -

I don't know yet. I find out on the 14th at my preop education appt. -
I'm getting sleeved after the new year and am interested in what an average post op menu looks like (after one has graduated to solid foods).

So aggravated! Why is it taking so long to get my surgery date?!
Superfluous posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Warning: vent ahead So, I found out my insurance approved the surgery before Christmas. So I call the bariatric center to find out when my surgery can be scheduled. They said that they would notify the surgeon's office that I was approved and then the surgeon's office would contact the bariatric center with the date and then the center would notify me. I understand the holidays and all making things more difficult, but it's been almost 2 weeks and I am STILL waiting for my date! I call every day to ask if they have it yet and last thing I heard on Dec. 30 was that they would call by the end of the day. Here it is, Jan. 2nd, and STILL NO DATE! -
