sick of movies representing fat women as stupid!
AuriP replied to iamsoworthit's topic in Rants & Raves
Ehh, I don't see the big deal, however I am from an entirely different group that is represented a lot in the wrong light. I see it as if she wants to play that role, and other people want to play on their stereotypes then to each their own. I for one am never stupid or the stereotype my group of people are portrayed as. If someone isn't truly biased and open when they see you then they will know that her characters don't represent all overweight women, if not then you really didn't need their company anyways. -
Do you hope to get smaller than your goal? Why or why not?
AuriP replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was never really below a size 11/12 as a teen and was about 150. I'm pretty short at 5'2". My goal is about 145-150 although I wouldn't mind getting into the 130's. I want to get to a size 8. Mostly though I want to be rid of my many asthma attacks during the summer and TMI Alert: my spastic bladder problems. Otherwise I ultametly want to settle below 150 after the regain. -
Divorce rates and WLS. (link to article inside)
AuriP replied to bflblog's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My husband and I have been together for 12 years. Since I was 17 and he was 19. I was 145 pounds when we met, he was closer to 180. We grew fat together me being 250 and him 265 lbs. He got diabetes and lost 60-70 lbs, he bounces from 190-205 depending on how his diabetes is. I'm hoping we grow thin and old together too, he married me 3 years ago (anniversary was on the 11th) and I was about 240 lbs and 2 children in around then. I believe he has loved me fat and thin, just like I have him. I know in my hearts of hearts that no one in my life can compare to him and I wouldn't trade him in for the world, I know he feels the same. -
Ex-Friend Keeps Writing Negatively About Me on Different Blogs and Web Sites
AuriP replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
While. I agree somewhat to what a few other had said about the reporting of her blogs, I however see many people come here to complain about how this friend or family member doesn't support their decisions in one way or another. This is really no different in that term just a more public form of it. We rally around that person and tell them that that friend/family member is wrong and should be ashamed. Please remember though, her friend started all of this, she could have simply ended the friendship and moved on, instead she publicly humiliated the Poster. She continues to belittle and down the poster with the many attempts by blogging. What really gets me though, is the fact that she deletes any postings on her blog that disagree with her, and then call all the posters she did delete "fat haters". I honestly think true fat haters all spout the diet and exercise, and put down the fork sometimes crap I see all over the web. They will never understand our true struggles. I have a friend who is about 125 soaking wet and can eat 3x as much as I do. She however has never told me to put the fork down sometimes, or even mentioned my weight at all. Sorry for all the ramblings. Sharon: please dump the toxic and discover new friends, and a true sense of how you want people to treat you, I'm sure she has criticized you in more ways than just this wls and fat acceptance bs she is spouting. -
Just a question about shoes. Did you lose shoe sizes after weight loss and were you able to wear different kind of shoes now that you weren't able to prior to surgery? I really want to start wearing wedges and heels but my feet, ankles and knees hurt terribly with any shoes higher than 1-2inches.

Havent had surgery yet, but keep your head up! Do you have someone who can hide the scale for a few weeks to a month? I know I have read that during stalls some people lose inches, maybe thats what youre doing now! I'm going to have my husband hide my scale from me for a month(harder than it seems) so I don't obsess over it. Maybe taking weekly pics and measurements will help keep you preoccupied. Good Luck, I know I'll need it too!

Revision from Lap Band to Gastric Bypass
AuriP replied to hharrison43's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I haven't revised yet but I have to repeat the whole process all over again. That is standard where I live, MN. My insurance is different than yours and I would look at the policy to make sure they don't have a once a lifetime bariatric surgery clause. Although I don't have the required 3-6 month diet, my insurance doesn't require it, that might be something you have to do as well. My band only provided me a 23lb loss and I frequently would get stuck, so much that I had and still do have some anxiety(unfilled) that foods will get stuck. I used to dread eating for fear of it coming back up. Hopefully your process is a smooth one. -
How Long til Back to Work?
AuriP replied to carolk36's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My job is physically demanding and I will most likely have to take a month off. I work as a nurses assistant. -
Confusion,chaos, and almost a lawsuit!
AuriP replied to Mrs. Goodridge's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Good thing this was caught. I have to say as a medical professional( nurses assistant) that it is very important that they ask you a hundred times or more who you are and your date of birth ECT. You should be more irritated and annoyed if they don't. As they take their jobs very serious when they ask these questions, you know you will get the best possible care. Also since it is so ingrained into our minds to ask these things, it becomes a habit. Hope you have a safe and successful surgery! -
Good Luck! I'm sure you'll do great! Hoping I get a date soon too.

Thanks for the replies ladies. I currently wear a size 8 -8/12 in shoes depending on the style and a 9-10 in sandles and wedges due to my feet being so wide. I can't wear standard size boots becasue I have 18" calves, they arent even flabby. I have pretty muscular legs with barely any jiggle. Sigh, I cant wait until I get a surgery date.

JULY 2014 Post Op Rny / Bypass Support Group
AuriP replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I'm hoping to get surgery by the end of July. All I have left to do is my one last NUT appointment(I have to have approval from them) June 18 and the Psych eval. I've done the upper GI and lab work. I can't wait to be done with this whole process. -
Just have a question about vitamins. I need to time them out and was wondering how you all time out your vitamins? I need to get this into habit so I won't stray once I have surgery. Thanks!

Funny enough my fingers aren't super chubby. I haven't had surgery yet but I wear a 7-8, I can't imagine what my fingers look like once I lose the weight.

Abdominal Binder & Band to Gastric Bypass
AuriP replied to weightlossdiva1234's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I havent had the revision yet but I used the binder for a few weeks, I had to cut it down when I lost some weight. It helped me keep my muscles tight and brace myself while getting up. I had a 4 year old at the time and she stayed with me the whole time I was at home recovering. I think you will do fine by yourself, I would recommend telling someone you might need help during the day and have their number on hand. Since you will be alone make sure you get all your fluids and protein in. Good luck! -
Thanks all. Being that I have 3 children instead of the one when I had the band placed has taken its toll on me as well. My youngest just made 1 this month and I am due to have surgery sometime in July. I am feeling a bit better about this, I'm just ready to take advantage of the quality of life I will have while my children are young. I never had the not hungry feeling with the band, I can't wait for that feeling with the RNY.

Not big enough for WLS?
AuriP replied to I will what I want's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Not as tall but I have a Bmi of 45 and weight a pound shy of 250. I've had 2 friends tell me I'm not that big and all I need is a little exercise and I'll be able to drop this weight in no time. Little do they know, my knees have started hurting after work I'm only 29, a few years ago I did modified P90x for 6 weeks and never lost a single pound. I'm sick and tired of being as big as I am and I would love to one day do us modified P90x without feeling like I'm about to die. -
A New WLS Procedure From Mayo Clinic
AuriP replied to LilMissDiva Irene's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I wonder how they figure that scar tissue wouldn't make it difficult to readjust afterwards. What about all the gastric acid? I live in MN and in most ways am very grateful to have the Mayo clinic in my backyard. -
what is the real reason I became obese?
AuriP replied to leeann71's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I think, although I havent gone into great therapy to discuss this, I had a host of problems in my childhood that helped contribute to me being obese. I was also like Leann 71 abused as a young child for 4 years, I took courage and told my mom. She has self esteem issues within herself as well and a year after the abuser went to jail and was then released, she let him back in the house with me(unsupervised). I was also bullied as a child in many forms, I was sensitive, quick to cry, and very socially ackward(still am to some degree). I didn't have a father figure in my life and I think all these things combined with hormonal changes with using birth control put my body over the edge. I also internalize a lot of stress, gulit, and other various things until I almost have a panic attack or begin to shut down emotionally. Honestly I am a wreak! -
Recently Lost a Best Friend Because of My Decision to Get Bariatric Surgery
AuriP replied to Sharon C.'s topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm sure it has been stated over and over again, your friend is missing the point on why people do this surgery. Yes many people can and do lose weight the old fashioned way but many regain the weight and stay on a vicious cycle for the rest of their lives. I do not want to stay on that wheel any longer. I feel for your friend only in her having an eating disorder that pretty much destroyed her life, I have no idea how long you have been friends( I have not read through the whole 10 pages yet) but if you were at the time she was going through her eating disorder is it pretty sad she can not be there for you. My mom and sister and I are over weight in various stages, my mom has recently lost almost 100lbs to date (yay!). What made her though was a heart attack 99% blocked widow maker in 2 places of her heart, this was after having a stroke and diabetes. I am not going the route of my mother, she was also a serial dieter, this is my way of nearly ensuring prevention of all of those diseases. I hope your friend will eventually see the light and I hope you will in time forgive her wrong doings. -
Feeling discouraged. There is so much temptation that I'm trying so hard to ignore. I just have to get down these 10 lbs and I can have the surgery. Working is the worst right now since everyone is bringing in treats and sweets. I cant wait until everyone's doing their New Year's resolution for weightloss. Hopefully by Mid Janurary I can get a date for surgery

I'm a 40DDD. I hope I don't lose much in the breast department. Before my weight gain I think I was a 36 C\D cup. I'm not certain since I never measured before. My family is well endowed for the most part so maybe mine is genetically okay.
