How long is leakage a risk?
saralyn4 replied to saralyn4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks everyone for your replies, I feel better that it's not life-long but still better to remain cautious and attentive to symptoms. M&m4ever, I'm sorry you had to go through that and hope everything is fine now I'm only 11 days post-op so I'm still in the "danger zone." If I may ask m&m4ever, how did they treat your leak? -
Thanks everyone, I think I added more than I should have (too spicy) so I will do less next time!

How much is too much soup?

Hi all, I am 7 days post-op and just started a "full liquid" diet. I tried tomato soup, which went great; however, how much of it is too much? My doctor said when I start soft solids I will only eat 2-3 tablespoons at first, but liquids don't apply to this rule. I don't want to overeat but feel like I could eat a little more. I've probably eaten a little more than 1/4 cup so far.

How much is too much soup?
saralyn4 replied to saralyn4's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
What is it? I'm always looking for new ideas to get some new favors! I had cream of wheat today and it was pretty good. I probably ate 5-6 spoonfuls. -
Can't get my protein in

I hear you! I'm at the point where I'm just trying to come up with ways to add a little in here and there to try & reach my goal. Once you get to more solid foods, I've heard it's easier to get your protein in just by food alone. I'm hopeful! -

I've wondered that too a_jap21. I will graduate to puréed in 3 days so we'll see how that goes. My doctors recommendation for puréed was 2-3 tablespoons. -

Can't get my protein in

I have also found it difficult to get my Protein AND liquids in each day due to the constant full feeling. Here are a few Protein drinks I've liked so far. The Isopure has 40 grams a bottle (I don't try to drink the whole bottle in a day though!) and the smoothie has 15 grams. I know you can buy Isopure at GNC, the smoothie I got at my doctors office so I'm not sure where else to get it. Both have a good taste and different flavors. Also, I used a cup of Isopure to make my Jello during my liquid diet. Also try adding non-fat dry milk to Soups, etc for extra protein. Best of luck -

Thanks everyone. I think I was eating too fast. Next time I will slow it down. Just something I will need to learn to do now! -

Well, I may have just answered my own question! The full feeling came and I knew it was time to stop. Live & learn -
I'm so glad I found this forum! Great advice for those of us JUST starting out, thank you!

I am 6 days post-op and am experiencing some of the same fears as you! I feel unsure of what I will be able to eat, how much, when to stop, etc. But once we reach solid foods, I think if we always remain conscious about what we are putting in our mouths we will be okay. I like the reply before me, that it is okay to be scared/worried because it will keep you aware. I think I will be so afraid of leakage that that fear will help me learn how to stop eating before I'm full! Not like before surgery when I wasn't paying attention to my body. Hang in there, the knowledge will come with experience!
