lialove got a reaction from is it just me in 5 weeks post op and slow weight loss
I've been stalled for two and a half weeks!!!! AHHHHHHH!!!!!!! I know if I just stick with the program I will get moving again, but I understand your frustration. I have been pretty bummed about the slow loss, but I remember reading somewhere that another person who experienced the same thing felt like the sleeve was what kept her moving through the plateaus and without it, pre sleeve, she would have given up and gone back to her bad eating. That's what I am banking on. It's hard to go back to Doritos with this new tummy
1-2 pounds a week is good and healthy and ultimately your skin will look better than if you lost it faster

That's all my Dr. expects me to lose a week, 1-2 pounds. I guess I'm a slow loser also! Slow and steady wins the race! And at least we're losing! Thank God!

I get it. It is normal. I remember feeling around my incisions. You swell, it hardens, and it heals. But always call your doc if in doubt. Trust your gut instinct, not us humans LOL!

Get rid of the scale! When I had surgery I was on the scale 24/7. I stopped going on the scale because it was making me depressed and I only started going on the scale once a week and after the first 3 months I would only go on once a month! You are losing, that is something to be proud of and happy about. Before surgery we weren't able to lose... we would gain. As long as you are losing ... slow or fast... YOU ARE LOSING! Your body also needs to adjust to this big mix up. It is used to food all the time. It will catch up to you... stay positive!

Thanks for the comments, everyone. You've all made some very good points. I think I am going to move my scale to my basement bathroom--I don't go in there very much and won't have to stare at it every time I use the bathroom! I don't need that little black raincloud ruining my day and messing with my head!

It seems that that scale always seems to lurk over our heads if we let it. It reminds me of the little black rain cloud that always followed Winnie the Pooh from my childhood books. Before I started on this journey I would have never though about stepping on the scale daily. (you would have had to drag me kicking and screaming just to get on it in the first place).
Every program and every doctor and ever NUT advise is different. I can share mine if it helps. We are told to try to eat 6 times a day and drink at least 32 ounce of Water. I had my surgery on 4/28/14 and I am on blended food at the moment. We are told to try 1-2 two oz make two of our six meals Protein shakes to assist with healing. I hope this helps.
Try to be kind to your self my program only had us on a strict diet 1 week before surgery not 30 but we all needed to loose weight and change habits prior to approval.

I know a lot of Dr recommend to not weigh yourself at all in the first month. It has to do with Fluid retention. I also believe your coordinator is spot on about comparing yourself to others. Some folks may have been on different diets than you, so there is going to be variance there. If you just keep following the guidelines as closely as you can, you will lose weight. And as has been mentioned, your body will hit plateaus. It is a good thing as your body has the ability to go into starvation mode. That is a normal, healthy response. It will pass as you continue to follow the guidelines.

I think that you are concentrating on numbers instead of healing and getting stronger so that you can tackle the so called stalls. Your stomach is still raw. it is not healed yet and your body is still flushing out the poisons that they put in your body while during the surgery and afterward to avoid possible complications.
Not eating enough calories will slow your progress down. Right now I think you are probably dead on.
I have never looked at stalls as stalls. i call it body at rest....That is when my body needs a break and stops losing to catch up with everything you are doing to it. If it feels threatened. It will shut you down. Once it feels safe again...It starts to lose again...We are an amazing machine. Your machine is different then mine.
Stop with the numbers game. Take the scale out back and hit it with a sledge hammer until you can feel the difference in your clothes and how you feel. Then step on your doctors scale. You will find it much easier to stay positive when you don't weigh yourself too often...
I have never had a gain or a stall yet. And you know why! Because I have only weighed myself 5 or 6 times in 18 months. I never weighed myself when I was fluffy. I don't see the point now. I follow the program spend time learning and changing my thinking and eating habits and have confidence in my tool....
you have the option to make numbers the main concern or your health the main concern.....

So, looking at your tracker I see you have lost 64 lbs already... THAT IS AMAZING!!!!!!!
I won't lie, I come on here and often come on and see the gigantic drops and get upset with my 1-2 lb loss a week (this week I lost 0 so far). The one thing I try to remember (and this is hard) that this is my journey and nobody else's, I am not in a competition with anyone and everybody's body is different. I didn't get this overweight over night and it is crazy for me to think it will magically go away overnight. I tell myself this on a daily basis, some days it is more effective than others.

lialove reacted to morgan53 in my first and last dumping experience!
I was sleeved on February 3 and so far everything has been smooth sailing. my doctor is one of the strictest when it comes to foods.. No breads, Pasta, peas, or high carbs for one year. he told me at my 12week check up he likes for his patients to lose as much excess weight as possible that first year. so far I am down 60lbs and just 2 pounds to go before hitting wonderland. I guess with all this and feeling comfortable with my sleeve a loving the new me ...is how I came about my first dumping experience. I was eating a baked chicken leg w/o taking small bites and downing it quickly! that's when it hit like a brick wall! I That sick feeling..I stopped immediately and sat for a minute hoping that feeling would go away. My hubby looked at me and could see the distress in my face ..or in other words he said I looked a little green. I walked around for a few minutes realizing it wasn't going to go away unless I visited the bathroom! Sure enuff that entire meal came back up. it was a horrible experience and one I don't want to revisit...especially if out in a restaurant.
so I guess the moral of this story is, no matter how comfortable you get with your new friend it will turn on you in an instant if you don't follows its rules...Eat Slowly and,,,Small Bites!
I still love my friend and couldn't be any happier!

On the other hand, paying $5 is cheap compared to before the sleeve when I would have paid the $10 and felt like I needed to get my money's worth - eating some of everything available. Now that's expensive in a different way!

Crazyweight, you are fine. You ate 2 pretzels, not the whole bag like I would have done pre-surgery. Yesterday I sucked on a Cheeto and was satisfied after that. Move forward and make sure you get your Protein in first.

I'm 8.5 weeks out. I had horrible fatigue at 4 weeks. It's getting better. I didn't really start to exercise until 4-5 weeks because it was so profound. I am much stronger now but still have to take breaks when doing chores, etc. once your up to 700-800 calories, it gets better. I don't know if it'll ever get "normal" since I'm still so new, but it does get better.

I was sleeved on 4/4 and everything was fine. I went home and a week later I had a fever of 104 and convulsions. I ended up back in the ER and was admitted to the ICU for 11 days and had two surgeries to correct the leak they found. Trust me when I tell you that if you had a leak, you would know it I DO understand the anxiety. Every gas pain, every twinge makes me terrified I am going to end up back in the hospital. I get really bad indigestion and I am always terrified it means that the leak opened back up. I don't regret the surgery because I know that I did it for all the right reasons, but I have to actively stay focused on the good things (down over 30 lbs in a month - then again - I was hospitalized and off all fluids and food for over a week!). You're fine, I'm sure, but keep in touch with your Dr's office and they will let you know if anything is wrong.

Well you are classier than I am.. I vowed to punch someone right in their stupid mouth if they ever accused me of taking the easy way out. First off, there's nothing easy about it. I suffered through two hernia repairs and struggled with all phases of the eating plan because I'm a picky eater. Kudos to you for keeping your cool. I had mine done in Reynosa, Mexico. Best hospital care I have ever had. Too bad there's a stigma surrounding surgery in Mexico.

Ugh.. "the easy way out" ... Have they even done ANY research on the surgery and what post-op is like?? Yeah, ok.. Getting most of your stomach removed, plus the pain after surgery, plus eating next to nothing for a few weeks, gradually eating more but healthy foods, exercising, counting calories, drinking 60+ grams Protein a day... YEP. That's TOTALLY the easy way out.
Sorry for the rant. I give you props for not lecturing her like I would have

My thought is that being a caretaker can sometimes drain you of energy and I am thankful that you have had your husband to help. Maybe your other two sons can help a little until you are up to speed? I am 67, and I felt like the weight of the world lifted off my shoulders with the surgery, and I am able to finally get out and go places like never before. I hope the summer sunshine will bring some much needed breaks from the gray skies for all of us. You and your husband - I am happy for you both that you can depend on each other. I wish I could hand you a bouquet of daisies. I promise you will feel better. Linda

I just boxed up 2x/20 winter clothing in hopes of donating it to shelters next fall. One thing to keep in mind ladies if you have nice office or interview type clothing... Women's shelters that take clothing donations usually get a lot of small sizes, but are usually looking for nice clothing in larger sizes. This way someone else wins when we lose.

I started my journey on June 18, 2012 at 334.9 lbs, I was a very sad and sick woman who was not living, just existing. Well fast forward 6 months and I weigh 233 lbs (101 lbs), everything about my life has changed! I am loving my new life, enjoying my new body (so is my husband, he's like a kid on Christmas morning - every day!) and I love it! Thank you to Dr. King in Oxford, Mississippi, your my hero! The pictures below speak for themselves, the first two are before and are the most I ever weighed, the first one is the saddest I was ever in my life! The last two are last week (Dec 11) and I still can't believe it's me!

    Feb 2012, 345 lbs

May 2012, 334.9 lbs (surgery day weight)

    Dec 11, 2012, 234 lbs
