Hello...it would be nice to find a mentor/buddy in Arizona. I had my lap band removed on 9/27/13 due to complications and have already been approved for my sleeve surgery. My doctor wants me to lose 50 pounds becore he will do the sleeve. I started the pre-op liquid diet today. It was tough, but I made it through it.

Well I made it to my two week post op and I am down 28 pounds since I left the hospital. My doctor was very pleased with my results. I went home the day after surgery and I will return to work tomorrow. The first few days post op were rough, but now I am doing much better and each day it gets easier to get in all of my Protein and fluids. My right side still has some pain, but I don't even take pain medication for it. I was very surprised that I have healed as quickly as I have, since normally it takes me a long time to recover from surgery. I hope you all have a very Merry Christmas today. I will keep the updates coming.

*Gastric sleeve diet* (without surgery)
Mel1976 replied to Maccurdyerica's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I can speak from experience about this. I had lap band surgery over 3 years ago and had many complications with it. I had it removed in October of 2013. Originally my doctor was going to do the sleeve at the same time, but there was too much fat around my liver to do it safely. My doctor put me on the pre op diet and told me I had to lose 50 pounds before he would do the sleeve surgery. I lost 16 pounds the first week on it, but the longer you are on it the slower you lose it because your body goes into starvation mode. It took me a little over 8 weeks to lose the 50 pounds, but it was worth it. In total I was on nothing but liquid for almost 11 weeks. It is not something that I would recommend as it is very emotionally draining. I had my sleeve surgery on December 10 and as of December 23 I was down 28 more pounds. -
I am on board for this challenge.

Well...surgery is Tomorrow. I am getting more and more nervous. I know that I am doing the right thing, but I am worried about the kids being without me for 3 or so days. I know that their dad will be here with them, but I still worry. I have spent most of the day cooking meals so they all eat good while I am gone.

Thanks so much.

Thanks for the support. My kids are 15, 12, and 10 so I should be good. They are all prepared for mom having to take it easy. If my kids were younger I would send them to my parents for the week. I think it is going to be nice to have them around while I recover. The good thing is they are going to be on winter break soon so they will be here to help.

Good luck to you as well. I can't wait to see your progress.

Thanks so much. I know that my hubby has this all under control. Just nervous, as I have never been away from my kids this long.

Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for the words of encouragement. I just hope I can sleep tonight. I think I am ready, but then I start to second guess myself. I know this is what is best for me, since I want to be around a long time for my kids and my honey!

Well my surgery us in two days and I am getting a little nervous about it. I have had several surgeries in the past, but still get nervous. I just can't believe that the wait is almost over. It seems like I have been waiting forever. I am just happy that my parents and my fiancé are going to be there. I wish my 3 kids could be there, but they have school and are all working towards perfect attendance. They would just be bored anyway. I need to try to keep busy for the next two days to try to keep my mind off the actual surgery.

My surgery is one week from today. I am both excited and nervous. This is something I have been waiting for this day for a long time.

I had my last appointment prior to surgery today. It went very well, I am down a total of 42 pounds and should get off about 10 more over the next two weeks on the liquid diet. Surgery is Decemeber 10th. I am already down 11% body fat, so I can only imagine how good its going to be after surgery.

Ok, so my surgeons office called today and scheduled me for Nov. 19th. I have been on the pre-op diet for 5 weeks and have lost 35 pounds. I still have two more weeks until surgery and am sure I can lose the other 15 pounds the doctor wants. Well my surgeon called me tonight and wants to push it out even further. I broke down jn tears because I don't think I have it in me to do the pre-op for four more weeks. I just want this done already.

Well...my surgery was rescheduled from Nov. 19th to Dec. 10th. I was very upset in the doctors office, but my boyfriend helped me get through another set back. After being on liquids for 6 weeks, I get to eat until 11/25 and then I start my 2 week pre-op diet.

Anyone have an open surgery and not laporscopic?
Mel1976 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am just wondering if any of you went in for laroscopic and it ended up being open. My doctor is of course going to try not to open, but just curious. If you had open, did you have complications? What was the healing time? -

That is correct.

I think its because its close to the holiday, but they dang scheduled it at that time.

He said it would be easier for him to do the surgery. He wants to make sure he can do it laporscopicly, whjch he should be able to, he did it that way when he took my band out and I am 35lbs less now.
