    Okay...here it is...a dumb question...

Melissa Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy! I'm sure I'm not the only one is jealous of you! It sounds like you have some guilt issues. Maybe seeing a therapist will help with food guilt and head hunger. It's worth giving it a try. Also, my MD warned me about the time after banding before a fill that I would be able to eat close to not being banded (not much restriction) he said it was normal. He did say though not to overeat even though I might be able to-- to avoid stretching my new mini-me stomach pouch. So, my advice is just, keep eating like a normal person, just use caution with quantities-- I hope you had a nice birthday!:biggrin1:

Need a little Pick Me Up

Don't weigh yourself that often. My MD says weighing yourself more than 1x per week if pointless. Female body weight can shift 4 pounds per day as it goes through Fluid shift cycles. So, be kind to yourself, weigh yourself 1x per week and see what happens. I have a friend that used to weigh herself daily. It become an obsession. Use how you feel as an indicator not some possibly scewed number on a scale. Also, it seems like you are doing great. Don't worry about a thing.
  3. Let us know how it goes! Good luck.
  4. At 7 days post op I was told to change from 5 Protein drinks per day to 4 and add 1/2c. mash pot or applesauce and 1/2c. yogurt or pudding. So, I sort of moved into mushies at 1 week. I am only 2 weeks post op (banded 10/12) and am now fully on mushies. I saw my MD yesterday and he said for some people, swelling goes down really fast and they are hungry sooner than others. Don't worry about a thing. Be happy you have the o.k. to move to mushies. I do not think it means your band is not working. I think it means you are healing well. People keep telling me this stage is for healing (not weight loss).
  5. Munchkin, Go Munchkin! G-O M-U-N-C-H-K-I-N! You can do it, You can do it, If you put your mind to it, GO MUNCHKIN! I just thought you needed a cheerleader! We will support you. I agree that your DH may be afraid if you are having trouble with the pre-op than you might have trouble with the post-op and eating differently for life. He needs help through this process too. Going to counseling with him is a GREAT idea. Oh, and just so you know, I asked my MD if I could do slim fast instead of Optifast and he told me the same thing you heard, that slim fast is actually bad for your liver (and kidneys). So, I listened to my MD and did the Opti fast. I would talk with whatever MD is overseeing the process for you and bring up your concerns about slim fast. You said you are a nurse and getting flck from people in your work environment? I saw a post around here somewhere by someone who is a banded nutritionist and she is having a hard time with co-workers too:cry Maybe you could also talk with her for support.

    Super frustrated

Hello. I just got home from my surgeons office. I told him that a lot of people on here say that if you can eat more than 1/4c. of food at a time, you need a fill. He said "that is completely ridiculous." He showed me a book of balanced meals to live by after banding. The meal examples were: 2-3 oz. chicken or fish, 1/4c. mash. pot., 1/2 cup side salad w/2 tsp. oil based dressing, etc. etc. The meals to live by were clearly more than 1/4c. of food. My doc. said that somepeople might enjoy being so restricted that they can only eat a 1/4c. of food at once but for people to be using that as a guide to decide if they need a fill or not is unjustified. ---I just wanted to let you know what my doc. said.

    in a rutt....

Hello. I was banded the day after you so, we are at the same point, pre-fill still healing and in a new-to-banding limbo. Please keep in mind that female body weight can fluctuate upto 4 ponds per day--per my MD (Fluid shifts, hormones, bowel movements, hydration status, etc.). My endocrinologist said that weighing yourself more than 1x per week is counter-productive. So, HIDE the scale. Weigh yourself 1x per week, preferably at the same time of day each week in similar or the same clothes. This will eliminate some of the factors that interfere with true weight. Don't stress! This is the start of a new journey, give yourself time.

    Are you hungry?

Hello everyone. I was banded on Oct. 12 my post op diet progression book says: "STOP eating as soon as you are full. DO NOT overstuff your pouch." That is fine and all but, I guess I am having a hard time determining what full even feels like. I am so afraid to over-eat that I stop eating the second I think I am content. But, I am not sure if it's enough because I am hungry 40 minutes later. So, I want to know, what does it feel like, to you , to be full-- not stuffed but full. Anyone else have this problem?

    Favorites

Hi all! Just wondering what you favorite meals are since banding. I have only been banded 2 weeks but want to know what I have to look forward to as well as new ideas. Tell me your favorite meals (With approx. portion size eat). I have recently developed much more interest in cooking--which is good since I probably won't want to eat out as much!

    Short Bandsters

I'm not saying this formula works for everyone but, the guidelines for healthy weight (for women) are: 105# for 5 feet tall, add 5 pounds per inch after 5 feet. If you are large boned you can add upto 10% more 5' 3" equals 120-132#
  11. I walked, walked, walked and took gas-x strips and only has gas for the first few days. Get moving!!!

    Sexual Assault Accusation, Please Help!

I don't really know what to say. I hope that justice is served no matter what the outcome. Maybe you should think about getting you and your daughter into counseling while you are going through this. I might help you all sort out difficult emotions. Also, it could give your daughter a neutral person to talk with about her feelings. Just a thought. My heart goes out to you and your family.

    16 Hours Help

I'm being banded in 16 hours. I am so anxious. I am FREAKING out. I am shakey and when I think about tomorrow I get naseaous. Obviously I'm trying to NOT to think about it but, how can I not? I am so antsy, my heart rate is up, I have cried thinking out it. This is not like me. I am not going to be able to sleep tonight. Do any of you have any night before stories? Anyone have any good night before suggestions? Why am I crying? I am afraid of the band being a disappointment. I am nervous about healing. I am nervous it will change my marriage. Anyone have their marriage change? I am a rambling mess. HELP ME PLEASE!

    Just banded

I was banded on Friday 10-12 and had gas for 4 days--thats it! I was so scared because I read a lot of people on here saying how bad the gas was and how long it might last--I read upto 4 weeks. Clearly this is a support group and the people that have little or no gas don't post messages saying "GUESS WHAT? I HAVE NO GAS!" probably because they would be stoned to death by a mob of bloated banders. So, you might read a lot of problems people are having because they here for help and support. Everyone is different. I walk and took gas x strips and it's gone. Good luck!

    My Fears...

I can offer support. I can't help you with your fear of vomiting. I was just banded last Friday. I can tell you that you are not alone. There are so many great people on here, we can be your virtual family! Why is your husband not supportive? Maybe you should work on his reasons. My husband was not supportive at first but finally I found out he was worried about our life changing (like going out to dinner, meals at the holidays, etc) he was also afraid of the surgery and risks as well. So, we talked about it and worked throught it. He ended being my #1 fan. **My husband is like yours very tall, very athletic, plays sports most days per week, no weight issues--keep in mind he doesn't know what it's like to live in your body and feel the way you feel, help him understand.** Feel free to private message me if want to!

    Upset and disgusted

o.k. don't smash the mirror but, give yourself a break. You had surgery. You took time to make this life changing choice. Hang in there. People see the difference, they look at you with honest, kind eyes. You might not be as nice when you see yourself. Celebrate the loss you have made and keep it up!

Venting about changes in my lapband program

I was getting angry at some of the reponses you got just from reading your post. I don't know what to say. Have you thought about filing a complaint? Not that it would fix what has already happened but, I feel like someone should know about these things.

Make a Pre surg time line!!

Your timeline is adorable. I love it. I wish you the best! Also, just my 2cents. I did a study during my senior year of undergrad (in 2004) comparing weight loss of people doing either the Atkins diet, South Beach diet and just a low calorie diet. The results were that the people on the South Beach Diet and low calorie diet lost the most weight (about 13# in first 2 weeks). The people in the South Beach group were the only people to keep it off after the study ended. The people in the Atkins group lost the most bone-mineral density and reported feeling unsatisfied, confused, foggy headed, bowel changes, cramping, discomfort, etc. The other groups did not report these negative effects ( a few people in the South Beach group DID commented on a few days of feeling like they were tired). The food records of all 3 groups showed that the low calorie group came closest meeting their basic macronutrient needs followed by South Beach. So, just to summarize, if you want a reduced carb diet to shed pounds quickly. I think the South Beach diet is the best choice. Just my opinion!

    Did It

I was banded yesterday a 7:30 a.m. I am feeling different than I thougt I would. My tummy is making the most strange sounds it has ever made. So much gurggling. It hurts sometimes. Sometimes no pain at all. I have not needed pain meds. Just reg. Tylenol has been o.k. The thought of having to drink Protein fluids is kinda making me naseaous. I know some people have mentioned gas-x. Is that for treating external gases that are being released (burping/farting) Or is that to calm all of this gurgling or gasses? Thanks to everyone who offered support in my hours of need before the surgery.
