Has anyone done this without any family, etc. at the hospital?
magtart replied to 280journey's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My 21 year old son spent the night with me. He slept in the recliner. -
BCBS of IL PPO (Houston)
magtart replied to HoustonNewbie's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I lived in Houston when I had surgery. I had BCBSTX. My doc was Ricardo Bonnor and the surgery took place at Memorial Hermann-Memorial City, which is a Bariatric Center of Excellence. -

Sending good thoughts and prayers for you and your family. Some chemo treatments do a great job at shrinking difficult tumors. It has worked three times for my husband. -
First pureed/soft meal attempt

I remember that slime coming up when I first tried to eat mushy food. Ick! I just put a teeny tiny bite in my mouth and mushed up really good and swallow. Then wait a bit before trying another bite. It will be trial and error for a while. I knew I was full when I started hiccuping. -
Impacted Bowel One Week After Surgery? Clueless Newbie.

Whoa. You might need to try an enema. The opiates can definitely do a number on you. My husband is a cancer patient and gets very blocked up when he is on pain meds and chemo. He once described it as trying to poop out a beer can. I have been having some issues lately and found relief taking SennaS daily. -
I haven't been this sick in years

I hope you feel better soon! -
Aren't you suffering with Anorexia? I really hope you are seeing a therapist to deal with these issues.

Update/stupid decisions/ what should I do?
magtart replied to Elode's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I quit smoking in 2000 because I was going to have spinal surgery with fusion and a cadaver bone transplant. The neurosurgeon said the transplant might not take if I continued to smoke. I was happily being a nonsmoker when my husband suddenly passed away in 2001. Our son was 8 at the time and it was a very stressful time. I started smoking again for a few months. Fast forward to now and I haven't smoked in 14 years. I still think about it every few days and think no one would notice if I sat out on the deck to smoke. -

Hospital Stay Day or Days?
magtart replied to mcp_vsg's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was in for one night and released the next day around 5:30 PM. Houston rush hour traffic is horrendous and it took us almost two hours to get home even though it is a 30 min. drive. I was glad to have a pillow in the car to hold up against my stomach for going over bumps and potholes. -
Must Haves to Eat at Home After Surgery?
magtart replied to fluffytofit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My favorite soothing drink was chicken broth with a tiny bit of bouillon and some dried rosemary and thyme. I let it simmer on the stove all day and poured it into my mug through a sieve. Of course, I drank the Protein drinks and stuff, but the broth soothed my tummy and relaxed me. -
I hate shopping so I moved to online shopping. Now I have even grown to hate online shopping. Soon I will have no clothes to wear other than those that fall down when I stand up..

magtart replied to michelle0208's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I haven't eaten more than a few nibbles in two days and was up 4 lbs. this morning. If I get back to eating Protein drinking my Water my weight will start going down again. -
I'm not a soda drinker, but I have an occasional ginger ale. The carbonation does not bother me, but I do burp louder than ever before.

I Am Thankful For My Stall

I'm going in to my 2nd month of a stall. I am not worried, freaked, or scared. I know I will eventually "whoosh". -

What was the problem with your EKG? I have A-fib and it didn't impact my surgery. -
For me, I got the greatest satisfaction from sipping warm broth. I heated it up with some herbs and added a tiny bit of bouillon to give it more flavor. The rest of the time I drank nasty Protein shakes and such.

Hungry like feeling since surgery- 6 weeks out.
magtart replied to bariatricwife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I take 20mg. of omeprazole in the morning, but it doesn't stop my stomach noises. The other day it sounded like my tummy was humming a tune. I wasn't hungry or anything. At least I didn't think I was hungry. These days hunger is not something I really notice or recognize. -
I drink one cup of coffee every morning. Right after surgery I stopped for a while, but started up again after 6 weeks or so. I don't drink soda or anything else with caffeine other than my one cup. I haven't had any issues.

What's your full sign? What's mine?
magtart replied to meganliz0824's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your tummy is still healing and swollen. Liquids pass through quickly. You probably won't feel the normal feelings for quite some time. Once you start on real food you will feel restriction. Just keep on doing what you are supposed to do and everything will work out fine. -

Why isn't your family cooking for themselves at this stage?
