November sleeve buddies going to TJ ?!

Im going in to see Dr.Aceves in Mexicali on November 4th... my surgery is 8500, flight was 130 from northern california to san diego. I have been obsessing and doing SO MUCH RESEARCH about my dr., the hospital, the surgery, and mexicali! I cannot wait to start over! Good luck to you all!
  3. My wife will be traveling with me to mexico.. I am nervous about the fact that they do not recognize same sex marriage, therefore if anything were to happen to me medically, would she be able to make medical decisions for me?? Anyone else in this situation?
  4. 22 days left.. 11/4 with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, and it cant come soob enough!
  5. I am getting sleeved on 11/4, and I have been reading a lot about people who have been suffering from vomiting amd diarreah since being sleeved.. sometimes for weeks or even months. Anyone been experiencing this? If so, what do your hometown dr.s think of you being sleeved in Mexico?
  6. I didn't mean to cause such an uproar... I have done my research for months and months, TRUST ME. Let's face it, the bottom line there is a chance of something happening no matter where someone goes. I have heard about the situation with the poor woman that passed away, and it's all very sad. I guess I came across a little too opinionated, and obviously people really love this Dr. Things happen and I understand that, I didn't mean to offend anyone.
  7. I scheduled my surgery for November 4th with Dr. Aceves in Mexicali! I am SO excited but so nervous.. I was actually more nervous about not being able to get the 3 weeks off work! Is there anyone that will be traveling to Mexicali to see Dr. Aceves at this time? I feel very confident about the choice of my surgeon. I have have done so much research on him, and my wife has spent countless hours up at night researching everything she can about Dr. Aceves, Almater Hospital, and Mexicali. I have not told my Mom yet.. at first I thought it would be best not to, but if anything ever happened there at least she would know where I was. My wife will be traveling with me... THE most supportive, unconditionally loving, and giving person I have ever met in my life. I could not have a better partner and love in all my life. If anyone needs any support or someone to talk with, I am here!
  8. YOU NEED TO DO YOUR RESEARCH ON florence HOSPITAL ON THIS FORUM! READ THIS POST A LADY JUST WROTE TODAY ON THIS FACILITY: http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/95809-pissed-off-and-scared/ I mean the bottom line is you get what you pay for. Do you really want to skimp on the Dr. because you want a cheaper price? I have not had my surgery yet, but I am scheduled with Dr. Aceves on 11/4, and I have (as well as my wife who is absolutely paranoid about me going to MX for my surgery) spent countless hours doing research on these facilities and Dr.'s. I took out a loan to fund this surgery and from what I have read about my choice of surgeon, I feel VERY confident. I think it's REALLY VERY sad that these women are SO desperate to lose weight that they are scheduling surgery with these Dr.'s for like $3,000 and staying in a "clinic" for surgery, and then an actual "HOUSE" for recovery. THAT'S TERRIFYING. One of the things I really loved about Dr. Aceves is that 1) I haven't read or heard anything bad about him, the hospital, or his staff in all the months I have been researching VGS, 2) you are brought directly to the hospital from the airport for your blood work and EKG, then you have surgery the following day as long as everything checks out 3) You stay in the hospital for 3 days where multiple leak tests are done to ensure there were no complications during surgery. Some of these places make you go back to the hotel and make you get up and travel to the clinic or hospital every day, not to mention some places take you directly to the hospital from the airport for blood work, your EKG, and your surgery BACK TO BACK. How the hell does that give them any time to determine whether or not something is wrong with you via the blood work or EKG? It's all very scary, and it's a huge decision to make, but I am not going to try and save money when it comes to getting a surgery done in another country.
  9. Just booked my flight for my 11/4 appointment with Dr. Aceves.. I'm nervous but SO EXCITED! Any suggestions of what I should bring with me (aside from the obvious toiletries and a book/laptop/cellphone). Give me your suggestions!
  10. Thank you ladies... 11/4 cannot come soon enough! I don't know how some of these women go to something like this alone... that takes a lot of guts! I am so excited for this change.. I have been down on myself for too long, and luckily I don't have too far to go: I am 5'5 and 196lbs. I would love to lose 50-60 pounds! Congratulations to both of you lovely ladies on your weight loss!
  11. I am new to this forum, and I have been looking in to going down to Mexicali to get the gastric sleeve procedure done by Alberto Aceves. Has anyone else gone to him for thid particular procedure? I have several questions regarding the process of getting something like this done in such a far away location. 1. Is it safe, is it clean?! 2. Do they do everything over the phone, or do you go down to meet with the surgeon some time before the actual procedure is done? 3. Can someone sum up what the whole experience is, from beginning to end?! I just filled out my online application and I cannot wait to hear back from them. I am so nervous, but so excited to be on my way to a healthier, more active, and happier me!!!
  12. Wow... thank you ladies for all your help and information! My wife is coming with me, thank God! You Amy are so brave forgoing on your own. Is there s place to sleep for a guest in the hospital room? Is it safe to leave all your belongings in the hotel room while you walk around? My wife needs wifi so she can do her homework. Do you know if they have that there? I will be scheduling my surgery for 11/4 sometime this week and I am petrified.. but excited to be healthier and happier!
