  1. Ugh Im 5 weeks out and just now getting some energy back. Yesterday I managed to take a full shower and do my hair without having to take a break in between. But, some things still kill me. I sounded like the big bad wolf when I got to the top of a flight of stairs today (Pre surgery I didn't even huff and puff). Also last night I slept 2-3 hours at night, then slept the ENTIRE day while my son was at school ;/ Considering the time now, Im guessing the same will happen today. I am seriously not sure how this whole back to work thing is going to play out. Part of me is seriously dreading it lol

    calories and protein

That sounds about right to me calorie/protein wise. Considering protein shakes and possibly milk are your only protein source 2-4 shakes depending on the amount of protein in each shake/your personal protein goal. Stay strong on that liquid diet!! You will need to resist just as much if not more after surgery (and you will be so weary from doing the liquid diet Pre op too), due to your new sleeve being at risk for a leak etc. Just don't look through the food threads for now, they will only tempt you at this point You can do it!!

    Would you do it again?

In a heartbeat! Im only 5weeks post op, had some small complications (STILL have a little nausea, the di di's quite often, trouble with fluid/protein intake). But, I was on a runaway train as far as my health was concerned. I lost over 75 lbs. twice and gained it back + some within 2 years . No regrets here!! Although, I feel I must tell you this on a side note. I researched this surgery for about a month, and also my mom had a bypass about 6 years ago. I thought I knew enough. I really didn't though! I never thought about crazy complications. I don't know how I would feel if I ended up with a serious complication. I didn't even consider it. Now that I have talked to people that did deal with complications, I don't know how I would have dealt with it...Please be sure you do your research. This surgery does change your life and you need to know what to expect. That being said, this has been an amazing journey, and the start line is just behind me lol

    Night Time Munchies

Is this night time munchies or the other munchies lol?? Either way, I feel ya My sister in law sent home cupcakes after a birthday party this weekend. I decided to eat my cupcake that night, and I only ate 3 small bites and gave the rest to my husband. I think he was a little shocked (but he didn't complain!).

    Before or After Question

You should definitely have the surgery in April! You will be feeling so good by the 2 month mark you will be thrilled with your weight loss, some new clothes(maybe?), and you'll be able to keep up with your active family members. Don't worry, you'll be able to sample some local cuisine while you're there, and be happy you have your sleeve in place to help you. 30 family members traveling together? Sounds so awesome!!

    It's time

A celebratory toast for a safe surgery ::raise your protein shakes please:: Glad things went well.
  7. I HATE fish lol BUT that was my first meal because I wasn't allowed any other meat the first week. They said fish was the softest meat to try at first, and I was scared to hurt my sleeve. Im not eating fish anymore. Now I mainly stick with chicken as my main protein source.
  8. Salmon and mashed potatoes
  9. Don't feel guilty hun!!! I have had minor annoying complications, (nausea, diarrhea constantly, trouble with protein/fluids). That being said, Im actually happy about my surgery. I <3 my lil sleeve and know that soon enough I'll be 100%, back to work, and exercising. I love reading about people who are doing great though. It gives me hope, NOT make me sad Keep on feelin fabulous and don't look back!
  10. I have had a C section, 3 hernia repairs, my lt. Ovary removed and my gall bladder out. My surgeon was still able to do the surgery laparoscopically. It just depends. I was fully anticipating having that I would wake up to find the surgery was done open, but instead pleasantly surprised to see the 4 little incisions instead
  11. That seems crazy strict. Im in week 5, and start iceberg lettuce this week, and fresh veggies (and fruit) within the next 2 weeks. I would def. ask my NUT about waiting that long. The longest I have to wait is 4 mos. and that is for rice, noodles, and nuts. Anything else is pretty much fair game after 7 weeks or so.

    What was your breaking point?

I knew I had to do something drastic when I realized my abdominal hernia was torn for the 4th time due to my huge weight fluctuations. (Lost and regained 50-90 lbs. several occasions) I still have to have surgery. But since I know my hernia surgeon so well, he told me to lose all the weight and he would give me a free TT! So, now Im sleeved, Im working toward my hernia repair (hopefully my FINAL one!)

    Help...having regrets

I also was sleeved 9/11. I too am still dealing with being nauseated. However, it's getting better. It sounds like it is for you as well. I think a psych would be a good idea if you are eating out of frustration. To keep loosing weight we need to super focus on eating only out of need. Im struggling to eat enough Protein ;/ But, I just keep trucking along trying to find the balance. As for the not recognizing when you are full...This is a learning process. We hit the reset button when we got sleeved. It will take some time to learn our new little tummies. I still eat that extra bite and regret it afterwards sometimes. Not because Im trying to do that, it's just Im not completely in tune with my tummy enough yet. Im sorry you are regretting :/ Im sure if you talk to a psych, and work out these feelings of frustrations in a better manner you will better about your decision. Maybe write down a list of all the reasons you decided you NEEDED this surgery. And, I too was gaining weight at an alarming rate. This surgery has definitely stopped that in its tracks. I am so thankful to have the chance to finally take control. As for the slow weight loss, we are ALL different. Talk to your NUT and see if you can switch up something in your diet to kick start it. Do you eat enough protein, fluids? Maybe add in a little (more?) walking to your routine as well. I stalled for over 10 days before I just started loosing again. I hope you can get out of the funk you're in. I don't mean to sound harsh, but this is our time to shine. My doc. said give these next 6mos. everything you got and then some. I will continue to do that personally. If I loose slow but know Im doing things correctly, Im not going to hound over #'s. Im just going to remind myself where I was headed before, and this of where Im headed now Best of luck.

Did you keep your surgery a secret?

I basically announced it to the world. I told most people I see on a day to day basis about the surgery and even announced it on my FB page to all my friends. I have told random people while waiting on my many many doctor appointments lol I felt great about my decision, and I wasn't about to hide it. At almost 5 weeks post op, I haven't had any negativity regarding this at all. Everyone has been incredibly supportive. I really didn't know how I would feel about everyone knowing, but so far, it's been nice. Glad I made the decision to share my story

    Sausage?

I tried Bob Evans Turkey Sausage a few days ago. It went down pretty well. I plan on throwing that in with my fried egg a few times a week. How long until bacon?? I definitely have to email my NUT tomorrow lol

Tell me to shut my mouth - please!

Those little victories are awesome every time! Glad to hear you overrode your temptation

What to order at a bar

Peggy, My dr. says I can drink at 6 weeks out. That's the thing about this surgery...Every center is different about their rules. So if I have a glass of wine next Wed. at dinner, Im following my surgeon's recommendations and being a good patient.

    Water intake...

I'm one month post op, and Im struggling for water intake as well! Mine isn't the full feeling, it's the fact that Im so darn nauseous in the mornings from any liquid. Pre surgery I drank more fluids than most people I knew, but now...like you said 45 oz. is a good day. I am starting to be able to gulp a little with the water. Im hoping soon that will translate into more fluid intake :/ Hope everyone can manage to stay hydrated.

    Leasons Learned

My family started cooking for the entire week on Sundays months ago. We all go to the store, come home and my son cooks meats and preps sauces etc. while I chop veggies for salAds/snacks. We might have 2 crock pots, a stew pot, and a pan of something going. But by the end of the day my son (he's 11) got to earn a big chunk of his allowance, cook meals for the whole week, AND spend some time (very rare lol) with his mom and dad. I couldn't imagine trying to eat healthy every day without doing this. I don't know about your family, but if yours is anything like mine, it's chaotic quite often. There are certainly Sundays I don't feel like spending hours at the store and in the kitchen. Then I think about what meal time would be like and know we will likely order at least a couple times during the week and eat at least one frozen dinner that isn't very healthy :/ It has motivated me to get off my rear every time. But, OP doesn't seem to have derailed yet. I think you'll be alright
  21. My center said no over the counter meds without a call to them first. I know we aren't supposed to take Tums. Also, you may want to see if you could take the Ompremazole in a single 40mg. dose at night instead of 2-20mg. doses. I always take mine around 11pm and never have a problem with it. Now, twice I forgot to take it, and I was miserable into the wee hours of the frickin night. (Last night being one if them -.-) I hope you get it worked out, as it certainly isn't fun.
  22. My NUT doesn't want me to eat soup ever again because it is liquid. The chunks are ok, but the broth acts as if you are drinking. Now, she told me a thick stew or thick chili made with lean meat was fine. No coffee??, I would just say stay away from crazy concocted iced coffees or ones that are loaded with sugar. Good luck. Im sorry you don't live your NUT, mine has been so helpful. She also suggested if eating cereal to do so with yogurt instead of milk.
