St. Patrick's Day Challenge
EarthyGoalie replied to Bea Amaya's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Yayyyyy! I reache my goal for this challenge! 157.0 today! I guess I am losing 2lbs a week. I hope that doesn't stop until I reach my final goal! Thank you for the challenges Bea. They kept me focus on my short term goals and success rather than obsess about how much more I need to lose and how far my final goal seem. -
Veterans: Do you follow the rules?
EarthyGoalie posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm curious to know if veterans still follow the "rules". Like a certain amount of Protein per day, no soda, no alcohol, no rice/pasta or heavy carbs in general, etc.... ? I spent last weekend with a cousin who had the surgery a year ago. I was shocked when I saw him eat a burger and had a sprite, later on, he had a rich haggendaz milkshake, then at dinner, a cheese and bacon sandwich with the thickest bread there was in the house, and he ate it all. He does exercise. But it seem to be the only rule he still follows. I couldn't believe everything he ate. So how about everyone else? Veterans? What's life like now? -

EarthyGoalie replied to alwaysonadiet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes, I do. But most of the time I eat bread, I eat the natures own 40calories light bread. I make a sandwich with one slice cut in half (1/2 sandwich) and fill it with protein (cheese, meat) and lettuce tomato. I usually have to leave a few bites. I also try not to eat it very often. -

I'm curious too... It's hard for me (still not being able to eat more than 4oz of food) to understand that he could eat like that... I asked him if he felt fine and not indisposed, he said he was fine. -
Congrats!!! I cannot wait to say I've reached goal! You look fabulous!

I agree. I feel the same. I felt sad for him. I probably should have mentioned that he is 17. He was "prepped" for this surgery for one year. I had a talk with him and he said he's still losing. But I told him that from what I hear, it's not gonna stay that way if he continues like that. Anyway, I can only hope that as he grows, he realizes that he needs to change behaviors... -

Lol, yes, I do know some people like that too. My dad for one! He's very thin, and always has been, but eats just like that. Lol. These people are just something else haha. -

EarthyGoalie replied to EarthyGoalie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are right. it is subjective. To me, it's not obsessing over food, not overindulging, watching what I eat, and thinking about the consequences of what I choose to eat before I eat it, not after. -

I also aim to think, eat, and be like "normal thin" people. When I think back to just a few months ago before my surgery, I already think "oh my god, how could I have eaten all of these things?!" I like when I react that way lol. Makes me feel so thin haha. -
Please Help Me Wrap My Head Around This...
EarthyGoalie replied to LipstickLady's topic in WLS Veteran's Forum
I am goin through the same exact thing. Last week, I actually told my mom I lost 68lbs when it was really 78. Not on purpose. It's just that my brain is still a few steps behind. I have some small size clothes I bought when I was bigger for motivation and I realized I was scared to try them on because I thought they still wouldn't fit. Last night I decided to get over my fear and see how much more fat I need to lose to fit in them, so I tried them on, AND THEY WERE TOO BIG! My jaw dropped and I feel confused almost.... My brain still tells me I'm fat and subconsciously, I find that I have still been avoiding pictures. I wish someone could just rewire my brain lol. -

St. Patrick's Day Challenge
EarthyGoalie replied to Bea Amaya's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I vote for #1. I like it that the challenge ends on the exact day of the holiday. As for me, the challenge keeps me in check, and I think about my weight loss on the challenge all the time, so I don't forget a lot about weighing in. -
Thank you all! I am taking into account all your suggestions! It does happen more at night. I used to be anemic but As of my blood tests last month, I'm not anymore.

It's been about 10 hours since I've been having discomfort in my legs. I'm talking about upper an lower legs. And I don't know how else to explain it but discomfort. It's as if they wanted to cramp up, but also feeling very heavy. :-( I'm having a hard time. I can't even explain it well. Anyone have had anything similar? It might not have anything to do with the surgery since I'm 5 months out, but I thought I'd ask anyway....

How important is your goal weight for you?
EarthyGoalie replied to green*eyed*girl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I currently have 25lbs left to lose from the initial 100. My weight loss is definitely slowing down, and I feel so scared. I know what you mean, because when I had 100lbs to lose, I would've been satisfied with my current weight. But my goal has become so important to me. For several reasons.... 140 is the average weight a woman my height should be. I have no idea what that is like. I really want to know. Also, reaching the goal I set for myself (as well as my doctor), is a huge achievement. To me, it would be like I reached the finish line and ran through that ribbon, screaming of joy. Don't get me wrong, I do recognize my current achievement, but I don't want to have thoughts in my head such as "I'm trying to lose 20lbs", or "I need to get rid of those extra few lbs". I have never NOT worried about losing weight in my life. Of course, once you reach goal, maintenance is a whole other story though... Super hard as I hear it... -
How much did your surgery cost?
EarthyGoalie replied to Ree's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My insurance didn't cover my surgery one bit. I had to pay 10 grand out of pocket.
