I am pre-sleeve and also from the "clean your plate" club. When I was a kid...I couldn't get up from the table until my plate was clean. That is a very hard habit to break. So this got me to thinking about ordering out at restaurants. If you order from the kids menu....do you get any resistence from the waitstaff? I guess I could just order from the main menu and take home whatever is left over. I just hate wasting food! A friend of mine who had the sleeve done about a year and a half ago says that I better get used to wasting food. What are your thoughts?

Am I the only one that doesnt miss food/eating?
tigermom12 replied to gamergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you for posting this. I am pre-sleeve and this is definitely a fear that I have. Now.....food seems to control my life and I HATE it! I am hoping so badly that I feel the same way as you folks do. I'm really praying that the sleeve is my "light bulb moment". -
Good luck and best wishes! Very excited for you!

Congratulations and good luck! Very exciting time!

I have my nutrition evaluation on the 4th of November. Is that when you typically get your pre-op diet instructions? I have a friend that used the same dr. and she said she didn't have to do a pre-op diet. Will I regret not doing one?? Help!

Pressure NOT to be sleeved
tigermom12 replied to lswelk's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I'm sorry you are dealing with this. To me...this is a VERY personal decision for ME. I have spent 16 years being overweight and miserable and I'm doing this......no matter what anybody says. Your daughters probably don't know what all you have been through. And they are "upset" with you? It's not about them and what "they" want. You have done all the work and you know what you are doing. You are doing the right thing. Either they can support you...or shut their mouth. It's that simple. I know I probably come across rude but trust me...I'm not. I have only told the ones that I thought would support me. Now...if the ones that I thought would support me actually don't then that's on them...not me. I'm going through with this....with or without them. It's their choice. You keep your chin up and moving forward. You can do this and you deserve this! Big hugs! -
Just trying to srart the Sleeve process
tigermom12 replied to LaurenB8604's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started my WLS journey without even consulting my primary doctor. Luckily, I don't have to have anything from him. Like others have said, I would just find a bariatric surgeon and go from there. Good luck! -
Turnaround for test results?
tigermom12 replied to tigermom12's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my blood work done last week so that is already out of the way. -
I have my EGD on October 28th. Then my psyche and nutrition evaluation on November 4th. My stress test is scheduled for November 5th. They said one of the tests takes about 5 days to get the results back but I can't remember which one. Any thoughts? I have Empire BCBS and they only require me to have the psyche and nutritional evaluation. I'm hoping to have surgery before the end of the year because my insurance will change January 1st. The coordinator seems to think it will be no problem. I just hope once they submit my papers that they approve it quickly!

Wow...so sorry your family is being crappy! I truly am. You just have to remember you are doing this for YOU...and only YOU. It sounds like your family has their own drama or insecurities...including your husband. I would be so hurt if my husband did and said those things to me. I'm very stubborn and it would be a cold day in you know where before I asked any of them to help me out. I would try to find somebody else to take you for your EGD. Heck...I would hire a driver if I had to. Just keep reminding yourself that it's all worth it. The rest of them can kiss your soon to be skinny behind! Good luck and big hugs!

I cannot wait to have this problem! I am so tired of being hot all the time and breaking out in sweats.

The one thing I can't wait to wear...
tigermom12 replied to De-jo's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I want to wear a nice pair of black slacks with a cotton button up shirt AND have it tucked in with a cute belt. -
I have filled out all the paperwork and I go in today at 1:30 for my first appointment. It's been about a month since I submitted my paperwork and I'm very excited and anxious. I don't know what they are going to do or what to expect but just wanted to share! I'm hoping to be on the loser's bench by the end of the year.

Will you lie about the surgery?
tigermom12 replied to BigD35's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends. I haven't had the surgery yet but I will definitely be selective in who I tell. I am not ashamed of it but it's just a personal decision and I don't want certain people knowing. -
Congratulations! I'm hoping my process goes just as fast! We are on our way!

What do you hate about being overweight?
tigermom12 replied to Disabledaccount's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh I think about this all the time but I see a light at the end of the tunnel. I'm hoping to have my surgery by the end of the year. What I hate about being overweight is.... -not being able to wear my wedding ring. -being bigger than my husband. -not feeling comfortable in my skin. -hate shopping for clothes. -I do wear heels but I have almost fallen several times. -hate having to use a CPAP machine at night. -not being able to see my collar bones. -hate pictures of myself being taken. -being out of breath all the time. That's all I can think of right now but I know there is more. -
I'm pretty much at the same stage as you. I go in for my initial consult on October 15th. I called and submitted my paperwork on September 13th. They have verified my benefits and it looks like I just have to have a psyche evaluation and a nutritional consult to get approved. My case worker says I should be able to have the surgery by the end of the year. I sure hope so because I have been going back and forth for about 2.5 years and I finally made the decision to go for it! Now....I'm ready! I'm excited, nervous, a little scared....all totally normal from what I've read. I wish you the best of luck and look forward to meeting you on the other side!

Did your tastes change after surgery?
tigermom12 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a friend who's had the sleeve and she said her tastes have changed. She didn't like sweets prior to surgery but now she does. I've also read that could happen. What has been your experience? Thanks! -
I was wondering if you folks who were on a cpap machine if you were able to get off of it after losing weight?

I just submitted my initial paperwork last Friday. I received a call today that they verified my benefits and set up my consultation. I am so excited! I have Empire BCBS and from what the lady said on the phone that I should be able to have the surgery by the end of the year. I looked up my insurance requirements and it seems pretty straight forward. I can't get in to see the dr. until October 15th but she would call me back if she had a cancellation. It took me about 2.5 years of thinking about this to actually do it. I'm so ready to get on with my new life!

I just submitted my preliminary paperwork last Friday. They told me on Monday they were verifying my benefits and would call me. I have Empire BCBS. Now that I've finally decided to proceed I know this will be a really long process. I know it depends in your insurance but I'm wondering how long I will have to do the supervised diet if at all? I just have so many questions but I figure they will answer them all when I go in. Good luck to you all!!

Hello all! I am brand new to this forum as well as very early in my process for getting the gastric sleeve. I turned in my paperwork Friday and yesterday the doctor's office was verifying benefits. She then told me that once that is done she will call me to set up my initial consultation. I've been thinking about this for a while and have decided to go for it. I'm nervous as well as excited. I hope my process is an easy one. I have Empire BCBS. Good luck to you all and I hope to get to know you all!
