I am pre-op and I get physically ill and extremely grumpy when I'm hungry. My question is this.... Will I still get light-headed and queasy from a lack of food?

I met with my PCP today to discuss my plans for VSG and to get his opinion. He told me he thought it was a terrible idea and tried to convince me to go back on Adepex (AGAIN!!!!). I've been seeing this doc for the last nineteen years. He has seen me struggle and lose and gain and lose more times than I can count. I've just given up hope on getting any support from anyone. Any person that I've mentioned it to acts as if I said I want to cut my own head off and I constantly get the "You're not that big" line. I weigh 195, 5'4". I think that's a BMI between 33-34. I realize I am not horribly obese, but I'm obese none the less. I have no health problems so everyone has the expectation that I should be able to do it on my own. I'm starting to doubt myself and think that EVERYONE is right. I just don't think I can handle the failure/guilt/deprivation of another diet. I would appreciate any opinions. Thanks - A

Awesome! It's great to hear from someone so upbeat. (I've personally had a crappy day). Who is your surgeon?

@"mbrinmn" I am in the Deep South and the cost of living is lower. $13500 takes care of it all. Glad u had a good experience. Ive had a few friends go to Mexico with no probs whatsoever. I'm just worried about being in the 1-2% and having a major complication like a leak. No other surgeon is going to be as motivated to "fix it" like the original surgeon. I guess I'm scared that no one would want to touch me after going out of the country for surgery. There's so much fear of lawsuits in the medical field.

I am self pay and although I feel comfortable with the surgeons in Mexico, I am VERY concerned with follow up care and support so I'm leaning towards a local surgeon. My total cost will be approx $13,500.

I am very interested in this topic also. I take Prozac daily and Xanax as needed. I really don't want to b in a position where I can't get those down. I've been wondering if they make liquid Prozac. Great question. Thx for asking -

Hi All. First off, I've been lurking for quite some time and I just wanted to say thank you SO MUCH to the caring people who take the time to respond to questions and encourage others. U guys rock. Some info: I am 38yo married mom of two precious young men, ages 9 & 6. I weigh 195 and am 5'4". So on the lower end for WLS. If I decide to do the VSG, I will b self pay. I have a few questions, but let me say this.... I will absolutely ask the dr (of course), but sometimes MDs give u statistics which r good, but I am also interested in actual WLS patients' personal experiences. Here goes..1) I have reflux since the birth of my first son, I've taken Prozac for 19 years, and I've consumed a lot of Diet Coke and BC powders over the years so I'm concerned about the overall condition of my stomach. Is there anyone else who has taken SSRIs for an extended period and done well with VSG? I'm concerned about ulcers. 2) I have Generalized Anxiety Disorder with a history of panic attacks. This has led to a lot of health anxiety. (I don't like the word, hypochondriac). My husbands biggest fear is that I'll have WLS and then keep running to the ER/drs office thinking I'm having complications. Is there anyone else with GAD that has faired well? Thanks in advance for any replies ????

Very First Post - Several Questions
amyecpa replied to amyecpa's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Correction... I lied. I made a post over a year ago. This is post #2. Oops -
Hi Everyone. This is my first post and I must say what an inspiration everyone is. I've researched and I'm definitely considering VSG. I'm just having feelings of guilt. I weigh about 199lbs and I am 5'4". So big, but not so big. I would be an out-of-pocket payee, so money is also an issue. I am 37 yo so I've tried a lot of things. What I guess I'm struggling with is "Did I try hard enough?". Is it selfish for me to be putting myself at risk and spending this money on myself instead of just eating better and exercising more? I don't have any comorbidities (yet) so is this just vanity??????? So torn :-(
