I weigh myself every Monday morning. It's my way of starting out the week, and focusing. Every once in a while, I'll sneak in an extra weigh in, if I'm noticing my clothes or my rings a bit more looser.

Hello everyone!!! I've been an RN for 20 years. No longer working in the clinical field...am a nurse consultant now for an insurance company. Good luck to all of us!!!! Peggy
-
My band is becoming increasingly more fickle too. Some days I can eat just about anything...other days no way.
-
I seem to have trouble with drinking a glass of milk, of all things! I can drink a glass of cold water, but not milk. I can tolerate milk in cold cereal though. I also cant eat cold roast chicken...cooked is fine, but no go for the cold bird. Ice cream is no problem. and I havent tried yogurt, as I'm not a big yogurt fan.

Carol, Also try to increase your protein, which will make you feel fuller longer, and also increase your water. I'm due for a fill, and am paying strict attention to my protein. The band is simply a tool, not a cure all, unfortunately....so we still need to make the healthy choices. I'm noticing that at times I'm hungry an hour after dinner too, but have noticed it's not as intense if my meal contained high protein. Also, I'm still battling with "head hunger". Good luck to you... Peggy

You know you're ready for a fill when:
peggy1011 replied to ivyrose325's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm scheduled for 2nd fill on 11/2. I know I'm sooo ready for it, as I'm getting hungry more often. I'm trying to pay closer attention to getting all my water and protein in, but the date cant come quick enough for me!! -
I dont have the gurgling in my throat, but I sure do in my stomach!!!! And you're right...it is LOUD. It isnt hunger sounds....it's really gurgling!!!! VERY embarrassing.

Awesome news!!! I've been dealing with a plateau myself and feeling very frustrated. You've given me the hope I needed. Congratulations!!

Sarah I'm so sorry that happened to you!! I also have noticed that I'm more sensitive to weight related issues since I've been banded. It's hard to not feel so hurt. There truely are some real jerks in this world.

I also recently started weight watchers. I was banded in June of this year, but still need some help with healthy food choices. It definitely helps me keep on track, and keep a daily log of what I'm eating.

Anyone able to eat cheese
peggy1011 replied to Jobstud's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Knock on wood, I've had no trouble with cheese. I rely on it often as a source of protein. -
I'm an RN working as a disability nurse consultant for an insurance company.

Had my first fill this morning. No fasting beforehand. Doc recommends liquids today, and gradually return to solids...more or less see how I feel. I'm almost afraid to try eating...anyone else feel that way?

Slipped band, how soon do I need a doctor
peggy1011 replied to Band-aided's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I agree...liquids only and give your stomach a rest. I am curious about something though...you mention you have had 2 fills with good restriction, then 5 days ago, it got terribly tight. Did you fly to Africa at that time? I've been reading a lot about people saying their restriction increases significantly with air travel. I wonder if this is what happened to you? Just a thought.... Good luck to you.. -
I'm just outside Utica. Peggy

Hi Cindy... Good for you! You're on your way to a much healthier life. I agree, this is a huge step for all of us, and we all have had days that alter between excitement and nervousness. Feeling your clothes get looser and looser and the scale go steadily downwards is the best incentive. This site will be a wonderful resource for you. Don't hesitate to post questions or concerns.... Good luck to you, Peggy

I was banded at the end of June this year, and met a good friend online at this site...(she was banded in July). We've both been commenting on how we know we should exercise, yet neither one of us had started yet. She came up with a great idea, that I'd like to pass along to everyone. I live in Upstate NY, and she lives in Long Island. She calculated the mileage from my town to hers, and we're now on an exercise competition to see who could do that distance first. We're both walkers and/or exercise bikers so it's pretty even. We just started this on 9/1, and so far I've had the competitive ambition to walk 2 to 2.5 miles every day. This is exactly the kick in the butt I needed!!! It's fun and healthy at the same time. Peggy

Kat, Believe me, I have NO regrets. Having the band isn't an instant cure all, and it does require a new way of eating and thinking. But I am feeling better day by day, and feeling stronger and very proud of myself at my success so far. I had some mixed feelings initially, but I now attribute them to the immediate postop period. Would I do it all over again? You bet I would!!!!!

The total mileage is 270. I have 262 miles more to go! I feel so much better now that I've started.

Scared To Face My Doctor!!
peggy1011 replied to REDGIRL's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Redgirl, Don't beat yourself up about it....IT is a pretty yucky diet, and a lot of people dont stick with it 100%. I had to be on clear liquids 3 days prior to surgery, and it was TOUGH. I never want to smell or taste beef or chicken broth as long as I live. Just keep it very light, and remember NOTHING after midnight the day of surgery. Good luck.... Peggy -
Hi Jasmine... I too have had fluctuating feelings. Immediately after getting the band I couldnt stop thinking "what have I done to myself?" I've since taken it day by day. Some days are better, some days are bad, but all in all I KNOW i'm in the right direction. I'm trying to focus on walking 2 miles a day, and NOT weighing myself daily....weekly instead. Judging by the way my clothes fit is a whole lot more complimentary to my inner self than a number on the scale. You're definitely headed in the right direction....Good for you!!!!!! Peggy

Does Insurance usually cover fills?
peggy1011 replied to luvelmo215's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I have UHC, and they covered the surgery. I was due for my first fill in August, but had lost enough weight without it, that the dr wouldnt do it at that time....but I did ask, and was informed that the fills are covered (after I pay my copay of course). Hope they're covered for you as welll.....Good luck. Peggy -
Welcome to the group! I was just banded 6/25/07, and am fairly new myself. I've gotten a tremendous amount of support from this site, as well gaining a lot of information. Good luck to us! Peggy

5 Weeks post op and it looks like infection- help!
peggy1011 replied to smiseel's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Jane, I'm assuming your doctor called you back and asked you to come in to be evaluated. If he didnt, you need to be seen ASAP. The redness and warmth around the incision is usually indicative of an infection. You may need a stronger antibiotic to take orally, as well as a topical one to apply to the site. Please let us know how you make out.... Peggy (who is not only a fellow bandster, but is also an RN)
